Eva Mattress Review
The Eva Mattress has only been available for several years, but it has skyrocketed to become one of the most popular online mattresses in Australia. It is a great ‘all-rounder’ that offers excellent value.
Purchase and delivery
As with other mattress in a box products, the Eva Mattress can be ordered online and it will arrive at your door in a compact box. Eva offers free and fast delivery, Australia-wide (except to the Northern Territory). All prices and delivery times can be seen below.
The box is relatively heavy, due to Eva’s robust pocket spring system. Care is required when moving and unpacking the box as it can ‘pop out’ quickly from its packaging. Having said that, removing the mattress from its box and packaging is straight forward and we allowed it to decompress for 24 hours before conducting our testing. You can see this mattress in ‘real life’ in our video review here:
Comfort and support
The top comfort layer of the Eva Mattress layer consists of a breathable polyester cover that feels breathable and durable. This is followed by layers of memory foam (20 mm), latex (20 mm), and a high density foam (70 mm). The combination of these layers give a ‘foamy’ yet comfortable sleeping surface, and it should offer enough pressure relief for most people.
A great all-rounder that offers excellent value.
Eva recently made some small changes to the design of its mattress (in 2020), namely the removal of the layer of ‘micro springs’ in its top comfort layer. This seemed to soften the mattress a little, and as a result, we have made a slight change to its firmness rating.
We would classify the current version of the Eva Mattress as a ‘medium-firm’ feel and a 7 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
This comfort layer sits over a 5 zone pocket spring system that feels solid and robust. It has an impressive 400kg weight limit (Queen size) so it should accommodate people of all sizes. The mattress offers outstanding overall spinal support, with no obvious dipping or sagging.
The finer details
The mattress is nicely constructed, and build quality is very good. Edge support is sound and it has strong side handles which will make it much easier to carry and rotate. As we said earlier, the Eva Mattress is quite heavy (55kgs, Queen size), so you will likely need two people to help carry this mattress.
It is worth noting that the Eva Mattress is well backed with a 120 night trial period that is certainly above average in terms of trial periods in the mattress in a box market. It also has an impressive 12 year warranty.
Available sizes
The Eva Mattress is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size) so it should accommodate most sleeping situations. Here are Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2020.
Final verdict
Overall, the Eva Mattress is a great buy. It has a nice balance of comfort and support, and offers very good value. It is also well certified as non-toxic, so you can feel confident that it is safe it bring into your home.

Gel Memory Foam
Infused with millions of gel beads to maintain perfect temperature through the night, this material adapts to your body to redistribute heat and offer pressure relief.
Natural Latex
Eva’s latex is naturally dust-mite resistant and antimicrobial. The open cell and pinhole structure allows it to flex and breathe.
Density Foam
Density foam lends the mattress its perfect degree of firmness for ultimate comfort and support.
5 Zone Pocket Springs
Pocket springs minimise partner disturbance so your slumber (or your co-sleepers) isn’t affected by tossing and turning.
Strong Edge Support
Supported by robust springs along its side pockets, an Eva mattress makes it near-impossible to fall out of bed or sink down when banished to the mattresses edge by your partner, cat or sleeping habits.
Unparalleled support Our unique combination of micro and pocket springs provide support where it matters. Our 5 zone pocket springs provide optimal support from head to toe ensuring the body is properly aligned, no matter the sleeping position. Keeping you cool Firmness Level Based on our research, most people prefer a mattress that is firm but not too hard. Eva mattress is a medium firm mattress which puts it in the region of a 7-8 out of 10 with 1 being very soft and 10 being very hard. This is the ideal firmness for a supportive sleep. The open structure allows air to circulate freely thus providing a cooler sleep. In contrast, a full block of foam acts as a barrier to ventilation and traps heat in it. This makes the mattress hot, especially during the Australian summer!
120 night risk-free trial
Your trial starts the day you receive your Eva Mattress. Most will love it immediately but it’s also normal for some to need a little more time to know your mattress. We want you to sleep, dream and play on your Eva Mattress before making up your mind. If you don’t absolutely love your Eva Mattress, we’ll come pick it up and give you a full refund. If you’re based in a rural area, we’ll get you to send your mattress back to the nearest depot.
Eva Mattress – A Mattress for all Surfaces
The Eva Mattress works on any of the following foundations. You’ll just need to ensure that the slats are evenly spaced for a smooth and even sleep.
Please note: We don’t generally recommend mattress in a box products to go on an ‘adjustable base’ (a base that can be angled via a remote control). If a mattress in a box product is placed on an adjustable base, it is recommended that a person/s be lying on the mattress (and base) whilst making positional adjustments. We generally recommend a mattress in a box product to go on a solid ensemble base, or a slat base. If you have any queries about bed bases, please contact us.
Eva Finance Options
We have King Size bases (x2) which have metal struts 60 mm running the length of the base and 120 mm running across each. Would these be suitable for the EVA mattress?
How firm is the EVA mattress?
Hi Rod,
It might be easier to answer your question if you could send us photo/s of your current bed base? Just email them to hello@bedbuyer.com.au
The Eva Mattress is a ‘medium / firm’ feel – about 7 / 10 firmness (with 10 being the firmest).
Kind regards,
The Bedbuyer team
Hi,
I’m looking to purchase a mattress and have been juggling between Eva, Sleeping duck and Sherman (happy to consider other bed in a box items). Main concern is heat at night. Any recommendations?
Thanks
Hi Madeleine,
Heat while sleeping is a tricky one as there are many factors that influence sleep temperature.
Based on our testing and customer feedback, the Eva Mattress and Sleep Republic Mattress are both well designed in terms of ventilation and cooling. Both have spring systems that allow good air flow, as well as breathable comfort materials.
Hope that helps but let us know if you have any further queries.
The Bedbuyer team
Can I ask where Eva mattress is manufactured? I am tossing up between Eva & Emma mattresses which both suit my budget, I weight 50kg, my current mattress has a large dip in it where I prop up in bed to read. I would like a mattress that would retain it’s shape but still be comfortable and not too firm.
Hi Julie,
The Eva Mattress is made responsibly in China. Almost all mattress in a box (out of 120 products that we have tested) are made overseas.
Based on what you mentioned, the Sleep Republic Mattress would be a really nice one for you – lovely medium-firm feel and very comfortable. The Eva Mattress would also be one to consider.
Hope that helps but please let us know if you have any further queries.

HI,
I am looking at purchasing a mattress and am having difficulty in deciding between all the options. I am a side sleeper and would prefer something that is predominantly Australian made. Thank you.
Hi Tracey,
Happy to help. There are only a handful of Australian made options available in the mattress in a box market. A nice one that we would recommend would be the Naptime 2.0 Mattress. Our full review (includes video review and discount code) is linked here.
We have also compiled a list of Australia’s Best Aussie Made Mattresses in 2020, article linked here.
Hope that helps but please let us know if you would like to discuss further.
The Bedbuyer team
Hello, just wondering on a firmness scale, how would you compare Eva, Noa, Sleep Republic, and Naptime 2.0? From softest to firmest? Thanks.
Hi Helen,
Happy to help! From softest to firmest would be:
1. Naptime 2.0
2. Noa Mattress
3. Sleep Republic Mattress and Eva Mattress equal firmness
Please keep in mind that firmness does not relate to ‘comfort’ and even though the Sleep Republic Mattress and Eva Mattress have a very similar firmness, they ‘feel’ a bit different. Also worth noting that we have placed firmness scales on each of our reviews.
Hope that helps but let us know what you decide on!

I have an Eva queen mattress that I picked up from an op shop after someone sent it back. It was my preference after researching your site so I was delighted to get it for $350, knowing it’s likely less than 120 days old … However, still a little bit of a gamble because there’s no option to send it back and no warranty.
I have old back injuries, though the area of trouble for me is the mid-thoracic (middle of the upper back).
I find most mattresses have a little too much sinkage in that back area for my comfort. Feels GREAT when I first hop in, though as it sinks it’s a bummer. The Eva is the best so far, but not quite there.
I’ve tried all levels of firmness – I’ve tried the LazyBed (op shop) and had to Gumtree it at a loss. I’ve tried a couple of non-box mattresses that didn’t work – the Medicoil (medium, as the firm was way too firm) and the Solace Sleep Moonlight … moved them both on. I also tried 100% pure natural latex, sinkage too much with that too.)
Soooooo …. a question.
I note you’ve shared that Eva has changed the mattress this year to remove the micro springs layer. I’m wondering if that would reduce the sinkage??? Or not? IF I wanted to experiment, would it be possible for me to cut the mattress open and remove that layer? Too ambitious? Would I need to ask Eva, to find out if that layer is independent or glued onto other layers? Would it be possible to hand stitch the mattress up again?
If that’s all too crazy, what mattress would I be best to try next? (Even though I’m over it!)
Key element for me is the eco-credentials – absolutely won’t buy a mattress unless it’s non-toxic.
By the way, I had a mattress years ago that was PERFECT – loved it and slept on it for 10 years till it gave up. That was a sad day! It had the old spring system, which has predominantly been replaced these days with pocket springs. I’m not convinced that pocket springs are better.
Oh, and many moons ago I had a simple 100% foam divan from Clark Rubber that was absolutely heaven to sleep on, but I can’t buy from them as their products are too toxic for me. (And I don’t know what density it was.)
Hoping to improve this mattress (preferred) or find another mattress that works!
Any advice gratefully received!
Hi Maia,
Thanks for the background information, that’s always helpful!
We found that the removal of the ‘micro-springs’ layer actually softened the Eva Mattress a little. We wouldn’t recommend cutting the mattress open, the layers are most likely attached (firmly) together so it wouldn’t be practical.
The Emma Mattress might be one to consider. Firm feel with very good support – our full review (with video review) is linked here.
Hope that helps but let us know if you would like to discuss further.

I have purchased the Eva king mattress, and have found it has sagged already where we lay, which makes it difficult to roll towards the middle of the bed without aggravating back and hip pain. We found the Eva quite squishy/soft, so they sent out a 20%firmer mattress topper for us to kindly trial as well. That made it extremely firm and accentuated the sagging spots. (Note I weigh 57kgs and partner weighs 85kgs) I dont believe a mattress should sag/dip like this till its 10yrs old and time for a new one!
As we are within the 120 trial period we will be returning and hoping to try the Sleep Republic, and hopefully wont have the same issues we have had with the Eva. I must however applaud Eva on their customer service, they have gone above and beyond to help meet our needs, and I dont doubt their mattress is loved many, just wasn’t the one for us.
Hi Emma,
Thanks for visiting Bedbuyer and for your feedback, we appreciate that!
Sorry to hear that the Eva Mattress didn’t work for you, but as you said you do have the 120 night trial period where you can get a full refund. The Sleep Republic Mattress would certainly be the next sensible option for you.
Thanks again for getting in touch and would always be interested to hear how you go!

Do Eva remove old mattresses when delivering a new mattress?
Hi Anna,
Unfortunately mattress in a box companies (to our knowledge) aren’t able to remove your old mattress. We recommend Soft Landing to remove your old mattress. Their website is linked here.
Hope that helps but let us know if you have any further queries.

Feedback:
I have just purchased the Eva mattress and have owned it for just barely 2 days, but gosh, it is the best mattress I have ever owned so far! It could mean either of two things: either the Eva mattress is that good, or, my 8-year old IKEA Hyllestad hybrid mattress that I brought over from my earlier rental days was “mierda”.
I first came across Eva when I bought their cleverly+beautifully designed timber bedframe back in September 2020 to replace my older and more conventionally-designed sprung-slatted bedframe whose SHS metal midbeam had failed and collapsed in August, (And in between, trialling a competitor’s bed base that I ultimately didn’t like and returned for a refund before stumbling upon Eva’s). Fast forward 3 months on just before 2020 draws to a close, I decided to get Eva’s mattress as well.
They say it takes at least a month for one to get used to a new mattress. So I shall wait. But so far, it has been very, very promising – it feels to me like those really firm yet plush hotel beds i.e. firm and supportive to sleep on my back yet soft and comfortable enough to sleep on my side (no oxymoron here), and I have no regrets choosing the Eva!
Question:
I chose to go with Eva’s because the $150 discount made it my cheapest option, and having a prior customer relationship with them. However, the “what-if” in me always asks – if I was willing to spend more, would the Sleep Republic, Sherman, Noa or Naptime 2.0 have been much better? What do you think? Or are they all in close competition in terms of overall comfort and support and the Eva has been a good choice?
Hi Renjie,
Great to hear that your Eva Mattress is going well for you so far! We certainly rate it better than all IKEA mattresses.
It’s worth giving the Eva Mattress a few more weeks before you make any decisions, but our advice would be to stick with it if it feels good. We wouldn’t anticipate a huge difference between the Eva Mattress and the others that you mentioned.
Hope that gives you some direction but would love to hear how things progress.

Hi Bedbuyer team:
Update 15-Jan 2021 – having used the mattress for close to a month now, I am very happy with it, and not just for the price. Firm and supportive yet so comfy with great pressure relieve. Never had much better sleep. The mattress also relieves my sometimes sore lower back especially after strain due to training, and doesn’t appear to exacerbate it nor create next-morning lower-back aches unlike my older Ikea mattress. I do not have issues with noticeable heat retention in its comfort layers either (noting that others have found it to be the case) for I am really used to controlling my sleeping temperature by rolling back blanket/doona layers and adjusting the bedroom’s ceiling fan speed as required. Eva’s a keeper!
Hi Renjie,
Thanks for the update and really glad to hear you’re still loving your Eva Mattress.
Always here if you need any further assistance.
