Purchase and delivery
As with other bed in a box products, you can order the Ecosa Pure Mattress online (through the Ecosa website), and it will be delivered to your door in a compact box.
Delivery of the Ecosa Pure Mattress is free (to most areas) and the mattress can be delivered Australia-wide.
Ecosa also offers an impressive next-day delivery to major metro areas. Please see additional delivery details in our Delivery information section further down.
Removing the Ecosa Pure Mattress from its packaging was relatively straight forward, but as always, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box. The box used a low amount of plastic, and the mattress came with a useful, information booklet.
As with other mattresses that contain latex, this mattress is quite heavy and difficult to move. Again, we recommend having two people on hand to assist in carrying the mattress once it has been removed from its packaging.
As per our standard testing process, we gave the mattress 24 hours to decompress before we conducted our testing.
Aesthetically, the Ecosa Pure Mattress presents well with a clean, modern appearance. It uses a white and (light) grey colour theme, and its brand name label gives it a nice finishing touch.
Mattress construction
The Ecosa Pure Mattress can be broken up into 7 components.
1. Removable OceanCycled™ Cover
This cover is made from 80 plastic bottles recovered from the ocean. It can be removed via a zipper and placed into the washing machine.
2. BounceTech™
This layer combines cooling, gel-infused memory foam and plush memory foam. This dual-functioning layer provides support as well as ‘bounce’.
3. 2000 Micro Coil Technology
This layer contains 2000 micro coils that are designed to provide targeted, contouring support whilst maintaining optimal spinal alignment.
4. Adaptive Latex Foam
This layer of dense latex foam delivers firm and dynamic support throughout the mattress.
5. 2,500 Pocket Springs in 7 zones
The main spring system contains 2,500 high-definition pocket springs. This system is divided into 7 zones of targeted support to ensure optimal spinal alignment and minimal partner disturbance.
6. Recycled Felt
This felt layer sits under the 7 zone pocket spring system and is made from 100% recycled materials. It forms a protective material for the pocket springs.
7. Reinforced Latex Foam
This firm layer of layer sits at the bottom of the mattress to help support the pocket springs.
How does the customisation work?
As with a number of other bed in a box products, the Ecosa Pure Mattress comes with a customisation feature. This allows you to choose between two firmness options (soft or medium).
By removing the top cover via a zip mechanism, the comfort layer can be flipped over. This comfort layer (of memory foam, latex, and micro springs) is a bit cumbersome to move, so we would strongly suggest having two people on hand to help flip the comfort layer.
This comfort layer comes with convenient tags (at the base) to indicate which side is soft and medium. Our mattress had the soft version as the initial, default configuration.
Comfort and support
The soft version has a comfortable, spongy sensation that absorbs body weight smoothly.
This configuration also feels nice and responsive (bouncy) and offers smooth pressure relief. This level of responsiveness is not surprising when you consider the layer of latex (typically rubbery and bouncy) and the layer of micro springs.
This configuration should suit most side sleepers, but it may also suit back sleepers, and stomach sleepers. Understandably though, its suitability may vary between individuals.
In terms of firmness, all of our reviewers agreed that this soft configuration had a medium firm feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 5.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Soft Version
Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Ecosa Pure Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
The difference between the soft configuration and the medium configuration is noticeable, but not significant.
The medium version is slightly firmer, but still has similar characteristics to the soft version.
This medium configuration should all sleeping positions (back sleepers, side sleepers, and stomach sleepers). Again though, this will depend on the individual.
In terms of firmness, all of our reviewers agreed that this medium configuration did indeed have a medium firm feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 6.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Medium Version
Both firmness configurations offer good spinal support and the mattress should accommodate people of all sizes.
As we alluded to earlier, the Ecosa Pure Mattress responds very well to normal sleep movements. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The Ecosa Pure Mattress stands tall in the area of build quality. Its quality and finishings are of a high standard, and the removable OceanCycled™ cover gives it a nice touch of class.
The cover produces a nice, flat sleeping surface and although the zip pull is small, it is still serviceable.
Motion transfer on this mattress is present, but in most cases a restless partner shouldn’t be a problem.
With that said, motion transfer may vary. A larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.
It is OceanCycle certified, with 80 plastic bottles collected from the ocean and repurposed into the mattress cover.
The Ecosa Pure Mattress comes with convenient side handles to help with transport and rotation.
Edge support is sound, so you should be able to use the entire surface of the mattress without fear of falling off the edge.
The Ecosa Pure Mattress has a 100 night trial period, meaning that you can return the mattress for a full refund if you are not satisfied. The mattress also comes with a handy 15 year warranty, giving you plenty of peace of mind.
It’s fair to say that the Ecosa Pure Mattress is made in an eco-friendly way. It is OceanCycle certified, with 80 plastic bottles collected from the ocean and repurposed into the mattress cover.
The Ecosa Pure Mattress is also certified as non-toxic by OEKO-TEX®. OEKO-TEX® tests for harmful substances such as colourants and formaldehyde.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Ecosa Pure Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.
We don’t recommend the Ecosa Pure Mattress be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
The Ecosa Pure Mattress comes with a 100 night trial period, which is a typical trial period in the online mattress market. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied (conditions do apply).
This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is also a typical warranty period in context of similarly priced competitors.
Available sizes
This mattress is available in 3 sizes (king, queen, and double) so it should still accommodate most adult sleeping arrangements.
Here are Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2024.
Final verdict
The Ecosa Pure Mattress has a rather sophisticated design that offers plenty of comfort. Its customisation feature is easy to use and its non-toxic certifications are worth noting.
