Premium Adapt Mattress Review
The Premium Adapt Mattress (formerly the Eva Mattress Plus) is a new addition to the popular Eva product range. This collection also includes the prominent Comfort Classic Mattress (formerly the Eva Mattress) and the Eva Timber Bed Frame.
The Premium Adapt Mattress features a special customisation feature that allows you to choose between 3 different firmness levels.
Purchase and delivery
Just like other mattresses in a box, the Premium Adapt Mattress can be ordered online and will be delivered to your door in a compact box. Delivery is free and shipping times are fast (see full delivery details below in our ‘Delivery’ section). ‘Next day delivery’ is available in major capital cities.
A ‘half-half configuration’ option is also available for an extra $79. This allows you and your partner to choose firm, medium, or soft on each side.
Unpacking the Premium Adapt Mattress should only take 5-10 minutes, and we allowed it to decompress for 24 hours before testing. You can see this mattress in ‘real life’ in Eva’s video here:
The Premium Adapt Mattress box arrived in good condition and was somewhat larger than other boxes we have seen. The box was easy to manoeuvre, thanks to its sturdy wheels. Eva also provides an information brochure and a plastic cutter (to assist in the unboxing process).
In part due to the large box size, the mattress was relatively easy to remove from its packaging. As usual though, we highly recommend having two people on hand to unpack a bed in a box.
From a visual perspective, the Premium Adapt Mattress has a warm, modern appearance. It sits 32cm high and uses a beige and white colour theme.
Eva’s distinct green coloured brand label also gives it a nice, finishing touch.
Mattress construction
From top to bottom, the Premium Adapt Mattress starts with a durable, CoolMax fabric cover that is removable and machine-washable. This cover is well ventilated and should help to regulate temperature during sleep.
This fabric cover sits over the main comfort layer that includes air memory foam, MDI foam, and cloud foam. This comfort layer can be flipped over (and repositioned) to adjust the firmness of this mattress, making it an important component of this product.
The second part of the top comfort layer is a support layer made of high resilience density foam. This layer is designed to enhance support and can also be repositioned to adjust the mattress firmness.
These comfort layers sit over a 5 zone pocket spring system that uses reinforced steel springs for maximum back support. This spring system is surrounded with a dense foam encasement to help strengthen edge support.
How does the customisation work?
As we alluded to earlier, the key feature of the Premium Adapt Mattress is its level of customisation. This allows the user to adjust firmness levels, based on their individual needs and preferences.
The Premium Adapt Mattress allows you to create a soft, a medium, or a firm feel by unzipping the outer cover and rearranging the foam layers.
The ‘default’ configuration that the mattress arrives in is the soft option. This involves the comfort layer sitting on top of the support layer (with the blue coloured foam facing up).
To change firmness to the medium feel, you simply unzip the outer cover, and flip the top comfort layer over (so the marble green coloured foam is now facing up).
Creating the firm configuration involves a few more steps, and is slightly more complex than changing from soft to medium.
To create the firm option, you must unzip and remove the support layer from its grey fabric cover. You then must place the comfort layer into this grey coloured casing and zip it back up. Then, position the support layer to sit on top of the comfort layer, ideally with the marble green coloured foam facing up.
Once you have repositioned the foam layers as described above, you then zip up the beige outer cover to complete the adjustment to the firm version.
As with most customisable mattresses, we recommend that any firmness adjustments be carried out by two people. This will make the process easier and should help to minimise any lifting injuries.
You can access an instruction booklet on how to adjust the firmness levels on this link here.
If you aren’t satisfied with any of the 3 firmness options (firm, medium, soft), Eva can make the mattress even softer or firmer by sending out additional layers, free of charge.
Comfort and support
The soft option is quite comfortable and offers a soft, yet supportive sleep surface. It absorbs body weight fairly well, and has a spongy, foamy feel.
This configuration is most suited to side sleepers, but understandably, its suitability will vary between individuals. It may also be suitable for back and stomach sleepers.
Our team rated this configuration as a 5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Soft version
Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
We didn’t notice a huge difference between the soft and the medium options. The medium configuration feels slightly firmer and more responsive, but this difference could be described as marginal.
The medium feel is well suited to side sleepers, but it should suit all sleeping positions. Our team rated it as a 5.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest):
Medium version
Finally, the firm option has a firm, dense feel. It has an unusual mix in that it was dense and foamy, yet there was also some slight dipping. To this point, we didn’t find that the firm option absorbed body weight as evenly as the medium or soft versions.
This firm option should suit most back sleepers but it may also suit some side sleepers and front sleepers. Our team rated it as a 7 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Firm version
There is a noticeable difference in firmness and feel between the firm and the soft versions (as you would expect), but as we said, it was actually difficult to tell the difference between the soft and medium versions.
The 5 zone spring system feels stable and reliable. It should offer very good spinal support, assuming that the firmness level selected is appropriate for you. And with a total weight capacity of 400kgs, it will accommodate people of all sizes.
The mattress responds well to normal sleep movements in all configurations and we rated its level of responsiveness in the ‘optimal’ zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality of the Premium Adapt Mattress is very good. Edge support is respectable thanks to to the foam edge encasement, and as expected, edge support was firmer on the firm configuration.
The zipper pulls around the main cover and comfort layers were perhaps a little small and at times, hard to use. The zipper around the main cover did catch several times, and was certainly not as smooth and strong as some other zip mechanisms (e.g. on the Atlantis Mattress or Sleeping Duck Mattress).
Partner disturbance was present, but certainly not significant so a restless partner shouldn’t be of major concern. Of course partner disturbance will depend on the size of the occupants of the bed, and is generally less on a larger size mattress (e.g. king size).
The Premium Adapt Mattress allows you to create a soft, a medium, or a firm feel.
One impressive design aspect of the Premium Adapt Mattress are the ‘vegan leather’ handles, located on the head and the base of the mattress. The position of these handles is unusual (typically these are placed on the side of the mattress) but they are noticeably strong and well made.
In terms of after sales service, Eva maintains its incredibly impressive 100 day trial period. This means that if you are not satisfied with this product, you can return it for a refund. Eva also offers a 10 year warranty.
The foams used in the Premium Adapt Mattress are certified as non-toxic by CertiPUR-US®. CertiPUR-US® is one of the most reputable groups in the world for foam and fabric testing.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Premium Adapt Mattress to be used with a solid bed frame with ‘rigid’ slats (such as the Eva Timber Bed Frame). It is recommended that the space between the slats does not exceed 8cm.
Neither a bed frame with flexible (posture) slats or an adjustable bed base are recommended for this mattress as they will void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Available sizes
The Premium Adapt Mattress is available in 3 sizes (king, queen, and double) so it should suit most adult sleeping arrangements.

Final verdict
Although the its customisation feature isn’t new, the Premium Adapt Mattress forms an impressive option in the mattress in a box market. Adjusting the firmness levels is reasonably straight forward, but it may take some time to work out what configuration is best for you.

Care instructions
You don’t need to flip the mattress as it is designed to have the memory foam layer on the top and the pocket springs at the bottom, however rotating the mattress 180 degrees every few months will allow for even weight dispersion and increase the longevity of the mattress.
The top layer of the Premium Adapt Mattress can be easily unzipped and placed in a washing machine.
Be sure to wash on a gentle cycle (max. 30 degrees) using a mild detergent, then line dry in shade. Do not tumble dry. Do not bleach. Iron at a medium temperature (max. 110 degrees celsius).
Although the fabric is machine washable, overwashing may affect its performance.
