Atlantis Mattress Review
The Atlantis Mattress is an excellent mattress that features an impressive, customisable design. It is Australian made and was awarded Australia’s ‘Best Value’ Mattress in 2022.
This product features an impressive, customisable design. This customisation allows you to select a firmness level that suits your preference, making it one of the most versatile mattresses on the market.
The Atlantis Mattress uses a special fibre called Seaqual, which is made from rescued plastics from our oceans. The mattress also contains certified non-toxic foams.
Purchase and delivery
The Atlantis Mattress can be conveniently ordered online through the Atlantis Sleep website. Unlike many online mattresses, the Atlantis Mattress does not come compressed in a box. As such, removing the packaging is straight forward.
The Atlantis Mattress can ordered in a number of sizes and configurations which will be discussed further down.
Atlantis Sleep offers delivery Australia-wide (except to the Northern Territory and Tasmania), with free delivery to major metro areas. Please see our ‘Delivery’ section further to read more about metro area delivery ranges.
Atlantis Sleep can also remove and recycle your old mattress for an additional $60.
Aesthetically speaking, the Atlantis Mattress presents beautifully. It sits 34cm high with a fresh, modern style. It uses a white and grey colour theme, with a splash of turquoise to (presumably) reflect its ocean friendly theme.
The Atlantis brand label (with the Australian made logo), also gives it a nice finishing touch.
Mattress construction
The Atlantis Mattress consists of 4 main components.
1. Sleep surface
The Atlantis Mattress starts with a ‘Sea-Soft Fabric Cover’ that is made from Tencel and Seaqual. As we alluded to earlier, Seaqual is a fibre made from the rescued plastics from our oceans. This cover feels soft and luxurious, and is one of the nicest mattress covers that we have seen.
This fabric cover is integrated with a ‘Breez-flow quilting’ that helps to eliminate body impressions and increase air flow through the mattress. This quilting adds a lovely touch of comfort and refinement.
2. Comfort layers
The comfort layer of the Atlantis Mattress includes a layer of ‘HybridFlow’ foam. This Australian made foam formulation is designed for comfort, breathability, and temperature regulation.
3. Atlantis ComfortAdjust layer
Underneath the top comfort layer is a Changeable support system called the ‘Atlantis ComfortAdjust layer’. This layer can be adjusted (by requesting additional layers), and it is this layer that controls the firmness of this mattress.
4. Support system
These comfort layers sit over the ‘Atlantis Contour Support Foundation’. This pocket spring system is designed to provide highly specific back support and minimal partner disturbance. This spring unit uses a multi-zone support system to enhance contouring for the spine.
This spring unit feels solid and responsive and can accommodate up to 300kgs (queen size mattress).
How does the customisation work?
As we mentioned earlier, the Atlantis Mattress allows you to select a firmness level that suits you (and your partner).
On your initial order, you can choose your mattress in a firm, medium, or soft feel. Additionally on your initial order, you can order a ‘half-half’ configuration (e.g. firm on one side, soft on the other).
This half-half configuration can be ordered on double, queen, and king sizes, and is ideal for couples who have different firmness preferences.
If you aren’t completely satisfied with your initial selection, you can request from Atlantis Sleep (at no charge) additional foam layers to alter the firmness of your mattress. It’s worth noting that this must be done after 21 nights, and within the 100 night trial period.
This unique adjustability makes this mattress suitable for a wide range of people, especially those who are very particular about their mattress firmness, or for those who suffer with a spinal condition.
The unique adjustability of this mattress should accomodate just about anyone in terms of comfort, quality, and support.
Comfort and support
The firm version is very comfortable for a firm feel, and certainly doesn’t feel hard or solid. It feels supportive and absorbs body weight nicely.
This firm version should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but this suitability will vary between individuals.
We rated the firm version as a 7.5 / 10 on the firmness scale. Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
Firm Version
The medium version of the Atlantis Mattress offers plenty of comfort and pressure relief. It absorbs body weight smoothly and feels rather luxurious.
This medium version should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but again, this suitability will vary between individuals. We rated the medium version as a 6 / 10 on the firmness scale (where 10 is the firmest).
Medium Version
The soft version offers plenty of comfort, and will generally suit side sleepers. It absorbs body weight effortlessly, but still maintains a good level of back support.
We rated the soft version as a 4 / 10 on the firmness scale. Again, please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide.
Soft Version
Regardless of what firmness option/s you choose, the Atlantis Mattress offers excellent back support. The Atlantis Contour Support Foundation feels stable and robust, and should offer a high degree of spinal support for all people.
All firmness options of the Atlantis Mattress respond well to normal sleep movements. As such, we rated the level of responsiveness of this mattress in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall level of quality and craftsmanship of the Atlantis Mattress is excellent. Its outer cover feels durable, and the side handles are strongly attached.
The zip mechanism that removes the top cover is smooth and the Atlantis ComfortAdjust layers are easy to rearrange. Edge support is reliable, so you should be able to use the full surface of the mattress, without the fear of falling off the edge.
In terms of partner disturbance, the spring system in the Atlantis Mattress (Atlantis Contour Support Foundation) isolates motion very well. As such, a restless partner shouldn’t cause any problems.
It’s worth noting here that the foams used in this mattress are certified as non-toxic by GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia). GECA product certifications are based on assessments relating to human health, toxicity, and environmental impacts.

This GECA certification, combined with the use of plastic waste from the ocean (Seaqual yarn), makes this mattress a market leader when it comes to environmental sustainability.
Atlantis Sleep offers a 100 night free trial which means that you can return the mattress for a full refund if you are not satisfied. As mentioned earlier, you can also request additional foam layers to adjust the firmness of your mattress (after 21 nights, and within the 100 night period).
The Atlantis Mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Atlantis Mattress to be used with a bed base with solid slats (not flexible/posture slats), such as the Atlantis Bed Base.
Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
Furthermore, we do not recommend the Atlantis Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

The Atlantis Mattress is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size) so it should accommodate most sleeping arrangements.

Final verdict
The Atlantis Mattress is a superb mattress. It combines quality, practicality, and a responsible approach to the environment. Although its customisation feature isn’t new, the Atlantis Mattress ranks as one of the best overall products in the Australian bedding market.
