Boutique Mattress Review
The Boutique Mattress is an affordable innerspring mattress that combines multiple foam comfort layers with a 7-zone pocket spring support system.
Featuring visco memory foam, CrafterCore Plus convoluted foam and support foam, the Boutique Mattress is designed to provide a comfortable balance of pressure relief, responsiveness and support.
The Boutique Mattress forms part of the Mattress Crafters range and offers a relatively simple construction compared with the Boutique Deluxe and Boutique Deluxe Plus models. Despite this, it remains an impressive budget-friendly option, offering excellent value for money.

Purchase and delivery
How do I buy the Boutique Mattress?
The Boutique Mattress can be purchased online through the Mattress Crafters website, with free delivery available to metropolitan areas across Australia.
Delivery fees may apply to regional and remote locations, with the final cost calculated at checkout. Customers can enter their postcode to check delivery availability and any applicable charges.
Our review sample arrived compressed and rolled in a cardboard box. The packaging was relatively straightforward, and the mattress arrived in good condition.
Inside the box was a small information sheet and a plastic cutting tool to assist with unpacking. The mattress was wrapped in protective plastic, so it’s worth planning ahead for the disposal of the cardboard and plastic packaging.
Once unpacked, we allowed the mattress a full 24 hours to decompress before commencing our testing.
Aesthetics and presentation
What does it look like in real life?
The Boutique Mattress has an attractive, contemporary appearance, with a predominantly white colour scheme complemented by dark grey fabric borders around the upper section and base.

The white quilted top cover features subtle decorative patterns, while the side panels have a distinctive wave-like stitching design. The prominent Mattress Crafters branding and Boutique model label add to its neat, modern presentation.
Overall, the mattress presents quite nicely, particularly considering its affordable price point.
However, the dark grey fabric border creates the impression of a thick, substantial comfort layer, which is somewhat misleading. When feeling through this section from the side, the springs are clearly noticeable, suggesting that the actual comfort layers are not as thick as the external design might indicate.
The Boutique Mattress has an overall height of 31.7 cm, giving it a relatively tall profile.
Mattress construction
What’s inside the Boutique Mattress?
The Boutique Mattress combines several foam comfort layers with a seven-zone pocket spring system. Its construction includes the following components:
1. Crafter Stretch Knit Cover
A quilted stretch knit fabric designed to provide a soft, comfortable sleeping surface while allowing airflow through the upper layers.

2. Visco Memory Foam
A slow-response memory foam quilted into the top section, designed to contour to the body and provide pressure relief around areas such as the shoulders and hips.
3. CrafterCore Plus Convoluted Foam
An egg-crate-shaped foam layer that provides additional cushioning, with channels designed to encourage airflow through the comfort layers.
4. Support Foam
A transitional foam layer that sits between the comfort layers and the pocket spring system, helping to distribute weight and provide a more even sleeping surface.
5. 7-Zone CrafterCoil Pocket Springs
An individually wrapped pocket spring system with seven support zones. This includes two rows of heavier springs around the perimeter, designed to improve edge support and minimise partner disturbance.
Comfort and support
What’s it like to sleep on the Boutique Mattress?
The Boutique Mattress offers a firm but comfortable sleeping surface, with its upper comfort layers providing a nice level of cushioning and pressure relief.
Despite its relatively simple construction, the mattress has a pleasingly balanced feel, without the excessive sinking sensation that can sometimes occur with softer mattresses.
The Boutique Mattress may be suitable for a range of sleeping positions, however, its firmer feel may be best suited to back and stomach sleepers.
During our testing, we rated the firmness at 7.5 / 10 (with 10 being the firmest), placing it in the medium-firm category.
Firmness rating

Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Boutique Mattress on the Sleep Republic Deluxe Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
In terms of support, the 7-zone CrafterCoil pocket spring system feels quite stable and responsive. It provides a reassuring level of support and performs particularly well considering the affordable price point.
Interestingly, although the Boutique Mattress uses the same underlying pocket spring system as the Boutique Deluxe and Boutique Deluxe Plus, we actually preferred the overall feel of the original Boutique.
Despite having fewer comfort layers and a less sophisticated construction, the Boutique Mattress feels noticeably more stable and solid. Its firmer comfort layers appear to work better with the spring system, creating a more balanced and supportive sleeping surface.
In comparison, the Boutique Deluxe and Boutique Deluxe Plus offer more cushioning and pressure relief, but lack the same reassuring sense of stability. Ultimately, we preferred the firmer, more robust feel of the original Boutique Mattress, despite its simpler construction.
The Boutique Mattress also responds nicely to normal sleep movements, making it relatively easy to change sleeping positions. During our testing, we rated its level of responsiveness as optimal.
Responsiveness

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
What else should I know?
The Boutique Mattress is well made for its affordable price tag. The stitching and finishing are neat, the fabrics feel respectable, and the mattress has an attractive overall presentation.
Although the external design suggests a substantial comfort layer, the springs are noticeable when pressing through the side panels. This gives a somewhat exaggerated impression of the thickness of the comfort layers, although it doesn’t detract significantly from the mattress’s overall performance.
Edge support is particularly good for a mattress in this price range. The perimeter feels stable and provides plenty of resistance when sitting or lying near the edge, allowing sleepers to utilise most of the mattress surface comfortably.
The Boutique Mattress is well made for its affordable price tag.
Unfortunately, the Boutique Mattress doesn’t have side handles, which makes moving or rotating the mattress slightly less convenient.
Partner disturbance is minimal, with the individually wrapped pocket springs doing a good job of limiting movement transfer. This is a positive feature for couples, particularly those who are sensitive to their partner’s movements during sleep.
We didn’t notice any abnormal heat retention during testing. Nevertheless, sleeping temperature is influenced by a range of factors, including room conditions, bedding materials and individual temperature preferences.
Other details
Product weight of each mattress size:
- King Mattress: 37.2 kg
- Queen Mattress: 31.3 kg
- Double Mattress: 27.0 kg
- King Single Mattress: 27.6 kg
- Long Single Mattress: 26.8 kg (estimated)
- Single Mattress: 26.2 kg
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Boutique Mattress to be used on a bed base with rigid slats such as the Ecosa Haven Bed Frame.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.
We don’t recommend the Boutique Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
What happens if I don’t like it?
The Boutique Mattress comes with a 120-night trial period, giving customers the opportunity to assess its comfort and suitability in their own home.
Customers are required to keep the mattress for a minimum of 30 nights before requesting a return. If they’re not satisfied, Mattress Crafters can arrange collection and provide a refund of the mattress purchase price.
It’s important to note, however, that a $250 collection fee applies to returns in metropolitan areas. Customers in regional or remote locations may incur additional collection charges, which will be quoted separately.
The Boutique Mattress is also backed by a 15-year limited warranty, offering protection against eligible manufacturing defects.

Final verdict
Is this the right mattress for you?
The Boutique Mattress is a relatively basic mattress in terms of its construction and overall build quality, but it performs surprisingly well considering its affordable price point.
Despite its relatively simple comfort layers, the mattress offers a comfortable and supportive sleeping surface, with a stable pocket spring system that provides a reassuring sense of sturdiness.
Its medium-firm feel should appeal to a wide range of sleepers, while its good responsiveness, edge support and minimal partner disturbance add to its overall appeal.
Perhaps the most attractive feature of the Boutique Mattress is its affordable price. Although it lacks some of the more sophisticated materials found in premium mattresses, it delivers an impressive combination of comfort, support and practicality.
Overall, we consider the Boutique Mattress to be an excellent buy, offering outstanding value for money in the budget mattress category.
