How do I buy the Boutique Deluxe Mattress?

The Mattress Crafters Boutique Deluxe Mattress can be purchased online through the Mattress Crafters website, with free delivery available to metropolitan areas across Australia.

Delivery fees may apply to regional and remote locations, with the final cost calculated at checkout. Customers can enter their postcode to check delivery availability and any applicable charges.

Our review sample arrived compressed and rolled in a fairly basic cardboard box. The packaging wasn’t particularly sophisticated, and the box didn’t have wheels, but it served its purpose and the mattress arrived in good condition.

Inside the box was a small information sheet and a cutting tool to assist with unpacking. The mattress was wrapped in protective plastic, so it’s worth planning ahead for the disposal of the cardboard and plastic packaging.

Once unpacked, we allowed the mattress a full 24 hours to decompress before commencing our testing.

Aesthetics and presentation

What does it look like in real life?

The Mattress Crafters Boutique Deluxe Mattress has a modern, attractive appearance, with a predominantly white colour scheme complemented by dark blue piping and a dark grey fabric border around the upper section.

The white quilted fabric, decorative stitching and prominent Mattress Crafters branding give the mattress a neat, contemporary finish. Overall, it presents quite nicely, particularly considering its affordable price point.

However, the dark grey fabric border creates the impression of a thick, substantial comfort layer, which is somewhat misleading. When feeling through this section from the side, the springs are clearly noticeable, indicating that the actual comfort layers are not as thick as the external design might suggest.

While the mattress looks appealing, its external presentation gives a slightly exaggerated impression of the thickness of its comfort layers.

The mattress has an overall height of 32.7cm, giving it a relatively tall profile.

What’s inside the Boutique Deluxe Mattress?

The Boutique Deluxe Mattress combines several foam comfort layers with a seven-zone pocket spring system. Its construction includes the following components:

1. Crafter Stretch Knit Cover

A quilted stretch knit fabric designed to provide a soft, comfortable sleeping surface while allowing airflow through the upper layers.

2. Visco Memory Foam

A slow-response memory foam quilted into the top section, designed to contour to the body and provide pressure relief.

3. CrafterCore Plus Convoluted Foam

An egg-crate-shaped foam layer that provides additional cushioning, with channels designed to encourage airflow.

4. CrafterCool-Ice Gel Memory Foam

A gel-infused memory foam layer designed to provide pressure relief while helping to regulate sleep temperature.

5. Support Foam

A transitional foam layer that sits between the comfort layers and the pocket spring system, helping to distribute weight and provide a more even sleeping surface.

6. 7-Zone CrafterCoil Pocket Springs

An individually wrapped pocket spring system with seven support zones. This includes two rows of heavier springs around the perimeter, designed to improve edge support and minimise partner disturbance.

What’s it like to sleep on the Boutique Deluxe Mattress?

The Boutique Deluxe Mattress has a soft top cover that feels quite pleasant, particularly considering its affordable price point.

The upper comfort layers provide a good level of cushioning and pressure relief, with a noticeable amount of give. The mattress feels noticeably softer than the original Boutique Mattress, with a greater degree of sinking into the comfort layers. This will be particularly noticeable for heavier sleepers, who are likely to compress these layers more deeply.

The Boutique Deluxe Mattress is potentially suitable for a range of sleeping positions, including side, back and stomach sleeping. Of course, this suitability will vary depending on the individual.

During our testing, we rated the firmness at 5.5 / 10 (with 10 being the firmest), placing it in the medium category.

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the Boutique Deluxe Mattress on the Sleep Republic Deluxe Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

The 7-zone pocket spring system feels relatively basic and lacks the solid, robust feel that we typically associate with more premium mattresses. There is a slight sense of instability through the spring system, although this is not particularly surprising given the affordable price point.

Nevertheless, we expect that it should provide adequate support for many sleepers.

Despite the spring system not providing a strong sense of stability and sturdiness, in terms of responsiveness, the mattress responds quickly and easily to normal sleep movements.

Responsiveness

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

What else should I know?

Considering its affordable price point, the Boutique Deluxe Mattress has a respectable level of build quality. The finishings are neat, the fabrics feel reasonably good quality, and the overall presentation is quite pleasing.

The springs can be felt through the side panels of the mattress, although this is not particularly surprising for a mattress in this price category. Unfortunately, there are no side handles, which is a little disappointing and makes rotating or moving the mattress less convenient.

Edge support is reasonable, but certainly not outstanding. There is some noticeable sinking when sitting on the edge, although the spring system still provides a degree of support. Most sleepers should therefore be able to utilise the full sleeping surface of the mattress without significant difficulty.

Partner disturbance is present, but not excessive. Movement from a restless partner is unlikely to be a major issue for most couples, although this will depend on the size and weight of the occupants, as well as the size of the mattress.

Considering its affordable price point, the Boutique Deluxe Mattress has a respectable level of build quality.

During our testing, we didn’t notice any abnormal heat retention. However, sleep temperature can be influenced by numerous factors, including bedding, room temperature and individual physiology.

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Boutique Deluxe Mattress to be used on a bed base with rigid slats such as the Ecosa Haven Bed Frame.

Ecosa Haven Bed Frame

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

What happens if I don’t like it?

The Boutique Deluxe Mattress comes with a 120-night trial period, allowing customers to test the mattress at home before making a final decision.

Customers must sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights before requesting a return. If the mattress is unsuitable, customers can arrange for it to be collected and receive a refund of the mattress purchase price.

However, it’s important to note that a $250 collection fee applies to returns within metropolitan areas. Collection fees for regional and remote locations are quoted separately.

The Boutique Deluxe Mattress also comes with a 15-year limited warranty, providing additional peace of mind against eligible manufacturing defects.

Is this the right mattress for you?

The Boutique Deluxe Mattress is a comfortable and serviceable mattress that offers good value for money, particularly for shoppers working with a limited budget.

While it doesn’t have the solid, robust feel of more expensive mattresses, it provides a decent balance of comfort and support that should be suitable for many sleepers.

Considering its very affordable price point, it’s difficult to expect much more in terms of overall quality and performance.
