Purchase and delivery

How do I buy the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress?

The Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress can be ordered online through the Sleepcenter Beds website and delivered directly to your home. It can also be purchased from the Sleepcenter Beds Melbourne showroom at 96 Frankston-Dandenong Road, Dandenong South VIC 3175.

Delivery charges vary depending on location. Sleepcenter Beds lists indicative rates starting from $45 for Melbourne, $55 for Sydney, $60 for Brisbane, and $80 for the Gold Coast. However, exact delivery costs are calculated according to the delivery address, so we’d recommend entering your postcode at checkout to confirm the applicable charge.

For online orders, the mattress arrives vacuum packed and rolled inside a compact cardboard box. The packaging also incorporates wheels to make moving the boxed mattress a little easier before unpacking. The queen-size box weighs around 41kg, so we recommend having two people available to assist.

Unpacking is relatively straightforward and should take around 5–10 minutes. As per our standard testing process, we recommend allowing the mattress approximately 24 hours to fully decompress before commencing use or assessment.

Aesthetics and presentation

What does it look like in real life?

The Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress has a fairly conventional Euro top appearance, with a clean white sleeping surface contrasted against dark side panels.

The top cover features blue bamboo-themed detailing and a lightly quilted finish. Black piping around the perimeter creates a clear border between the sleeping surface and the darker side panels, while the Sleepcenter branding is relatively subtle.

Overall, its appearance is fairly simple and functional rather than particularly luxurious. Nevertheless, it presents reasonably well for its budget price point and has the substantial appearance of a traditional innerspring mattress.

Mattress construction

What’s inside the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress?

The Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress combines several foam comfort layers with a 7-zone pocket spring system and reinforced edge support.

1. Bamboo Blend Fabric

The sleeping surface is finished with a white bamboo polyester blend fabric with distinctive blue bamboo detailing. This gives the mattress a soft and comfortable top surface while creating a fresh, clean appearance.

2. Comfort layers

Underneath the top cover is a combination of foam and padding layers designed to provide cushioning and pressure relief.

The comfort section includes 2cm of cool gel memory foam, which is designed to provide body-contouring pressure relief while helping to regulate temperature. This is followed by 1cm of soft foam, 4.5cm of support soft foam, and 3cm of support hard foam.

White padding is also incorporated into the comfort section, adding further cushioning between the upper foam layers and the spring system.

Overall, this combination creates the mattress’s plush comfort while the firmer support foams help maintain structure underneath.

3. 7-Zone Pocket Spring System

The main support structure is a 20cm deep pocket spring system divided into seven support zones. These zones use different spring tensions to provide targeted support across different areas of the body, including additional support through the lumbar region.

The spring system uses a combination of 2.2mm and 2.4mm wire, with thicker 2.6mm springs around the perimeter for enhanced edge support. According to Sleepcenter Beds, the springs are made from high-carbon, high-tensile steel and are twice tempered to improve strength and long-term durability.

The individually pocketed springs respond independently to movement, helping to provide stable body support while also reducing motion transfer and partner disturbance.

4. Reinforced Edge Support

The perimeter of the mattress incorporates reinforced edge support, combining higher-tension perimeter springs with high-density side foam.

This helps reduce excessive compression when sitting or sleeping near the perimeter, while also helping to maximise the usable sleeping surface.

Comfort and support

What’s it like to sleep on the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress?

Our test sample was the Medium Plush version of the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress.

The bamboo blend top cover feels fairly soft and breathable. While we wouldn’t describe it as particularly premium, it provides a comfortable and serviceable sleeping surface that presents reasonably well for the price.

The upper comfort layers have a dense, slightly spongy feel that absorbs body weight smoothly. There is a nice level of cushioning without the mattress feeling excessively soft or lacking in support.

This Medium Plush version should accommodate most sleeping positions, including side, back, and stomach sleepers. As always, suitability will vary depending on individual body type and comfort preferences.

By majority vote, we rated the Medium Plush version as 7 / 10 on the firmness scale, with 10 being the firmest.

Medium Plush Version

Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress on the Naptime Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

Overall, the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress feels quite sturdy and stable, particularly when you consider its relatively affordable price point. Back support is good, and the mattress should provide adequate support for sleepers across most body sizes.

At 30cm high, it also has a substantial profile that is typical of many modern innerspring mattresses. It certainly doesn’t feel noticeably thin or cheap, which is commendable at this price.

The mattress responds reasonably well to normal sleep movements. Its dense, spongy comfort layers do make it slightly less responsive than the Orthopedic Euro Top Flip Pocket Sprung Mattress, but movement still feels relatively easy and unrestricted.

To this point, we rated the responsiveness of the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress in the optimal zone.

Responsiveness

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

What else should I know?

Overall build quality is commendable, particularly considering the relatively affordable price point of the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress.

The materials, stitching, and general finish are all reasonably well executed, with no obvious deficiencies that we could identify during our assessment. While it doesn’t have the premium presentation of more expensive mattresses, it certainly feels well made for the price.

The mattress features four vertically positioned side handles that feel securely attached and should be serviceable for repositioning the mattress. As per Sleepcenter Beds’ warranty conditions, these handles should only be used to position the mattress rather than carry its full weight.

Edge support is quite good. The reinforced perimeter, which incorporates high-density foam and enhanced edge springs, helps the mattress maintain its shape and provides good stability when sitting or sleeping near the edge.

Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress

Temperature regulation was also quite good during our testing. Despite the dense, spongy comfort layers, we didn’t detect any abnormal heat retention from the mattress.

As always, sleep temperature is complex and will vary between individuals depending on factors such as bedding, room temperature, body type, and personal preferences.

Motion isolation is also good. The pocket spring system absorbs movement reasonably well, so partner disturbance shouldn’t be significant for most couples. As always, motion transfer will vary depending on the size of each sleeper and the mattress size.

Finally, at the time of writing, we couldn’t find any recognised third-party health or non-toxic certifications listed for the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress.

Bed base compatibility

What type of bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress to be used on a supportive bed base with solid, flat slats such as the Ecosa Haven Bed Frame.

Ecosa Haven Bed FrameEcosa Haven Bed Frame

Sleepcenter Beds specifically states that if a slatted bed base is used, the slats must be solid and flat with gaps of no more than 8cm. Using a slatted base with wider gaps may void the mattress warranty.

We would also advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats. Sleepcenter Beds specifically states that flexible slat bases are not suitable for its pocket sprung mattresses and that using one will void the warranty.

We don’t recommend the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

What happens if I don’t like it?

The Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress does not come with a traditional in-home trial period.

Sleepcenter Beds states that returns are only accepted where there is a genuine product fault, with comfort preference, firmness, and change of mind not accepted as reasons for return.

The mattress is backed by a 5-year limited warranty for the original purchaser. This covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship, including visible indentations greater than 4.5cm where these have not resulted from misuse or an unsuitable foundation.

If an eligible defect occurs, Sleepcenter Beds may replace the mattress with a new mattress of equal value. Any applicable transport or shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer.

Available sizes

What size options are available?

The Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress is available in 5 Australian mattress sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size) so it should accommodate most sleeping arrangements.

It’s worth noting that only king and queen sizes are available in the firm version.

The graphic below includes all of Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2026. Please note again that the Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress is only available in 5 of these sizes.

Final verdict

Is this the right mattress for you?

The Orthopedic Cool Gel Top Pocket Sprung Mattress offers impressive performance for its relatively low price point. Its comfortable medium-firm feel combines good cushioning with solid back support, while the overall construction feels sturdy and dependable.

While it doesn’t have the refinement of a premium mattress, it performs well across the key areas we assess, with no major weaknesses identified during our testing.

Overall, this is a great value option from Sleepcenter Beds. It should be more than serviceable for everyday use and would also make an excellent mattress for a guest room.
