Purchase and delivery
How do I buy an Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress?
The Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress can be purchased online through the official Origin website. Ordering is straightforward, and delivery is free to most metro and regional areas across Australia.
For metro areas, Origin offers next-business-day delivery if the order is placed before 11am. For regional addresses, delivery typically takes 3–8 business days, depending on the courier schedule.
Some remote locations may not be serviceable, while others may attract a flat $175 delivery fee due to higher transport costs. The website’s shipping calculator will confirm availability and costs at checkout.
The mattress arrives in two parts: the main mattress is compressed in a box, while the adjustable firmness layer is packed separately in a smaller box. This makes it easier to handle than some single-box mattresses of a similar size.
Our sample arrived in good condition, and the packaging was manageable considering the robust spring system inside. As always, we recommend having two people on hand to carry and unpack.
Unpacking the Origin Hybrid Plus is straightforward – simply cut the outer plastic wrap on the main mattress and allow it to decompress on your bed base. The adjustable firmness layer can then be unzipped and fitted into place. We allowed the mattress to expand for 48 hours before testing.
Aesthetics and Presentation
What does it look like in real life?
The Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress has a sleek, modern appearance with a fresh white top panel and a bold navy blue side fabric. The branding panel on the lower corner is neat and understated, featuring icons that highlight its key features.
At 29cm high, it has a solid, substantial profile without appearing bulky. The mattress looks clean and contemporary, making it easy to pair with most bedroom styles.
During our review, we were impressed with the finer details in the design. The stitching is neat and consistent, and the overall finish is of a high standard. The inclusion of strong, vertical side handles adds both a practical and premium touch, allowing for easier moving and rotation.
This design feels more refined compared to many compressed, budget-friendly mattresses, and it gives the impression of a well-constructed product. In a styled bedroom setting, the Origin Hybrid Plus has a classy, family-friendly look that feels both inviting and durable.
Mattress construction
What’s inside the Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress?
This is a hybrid mattress that combines multiple comfort foams with an advanced 7-zone spring system. Its dual-firmness design also makes it one of the more versatile mattresses we’ve tested.
1. EcoBreeze TENCEL™ Washable Cover
The surface layer is a silky-soft, breathable TENCEL™ fabric derived from eucalyptus. It feels smooth and cool to touch, is hypoallergenic, and can be unzipped and machine-washed to keep your mattress fresh.
2. PureWool Climate Layer
Directly beneath the cover sits a layer of natural Australian wool. This layer works as a natural insulator, helping to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer, while also adding a touch of plushness.
3. AirSoft Comfort Fill
A plush microfibre cushioning that feels light and airy. It contributes to the pillowtop’s cosy feel and helps the mattress adapt quickly to body shape.
4. HexaGrid™ Ortho Layer
Origin’s proprietary HexaGrid™ system flexes with the body to relieve pressure while supporting key joints. It’s designed to reduce strain on the back, hips, and shoulders, and plays a major role in the mattress’s ergonomic support profile.
5. Graphite Recovery Foam
This high-performance foam is infused with graphite to disperse heat away from the body. It also assists with muscle relaxation, promoting deeper and more restorative sleep.
6. AlignFlex Cooling Foam
An open-cell foam infused with cooling gel. It mimics the responsiveness of latex, absorbs movement smoothly, and helps to maintain airflow through the mattress.
7. ErgoCoil™ 7-Zone Lumbar Support
At the foundation is a precision pocket spring system with seven distinct support zones. This provides targeted alignment for the head, shoulders, back, hips, and legs. The system also minimises partner disturbance while maintaining durability and strength.
8. EdgeGuard Reinforced Perimeter
Foam encasement strengthens the perimeter of the mattress, reducing sag and maximising the usable surface.
9. EasyMove Handles
Strong, vertically-stitched side handles make rotating or moving the mattress far more manageable.
Customisation
How does the firmness adjustment work?
As we touched on above, the Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress features a flippable comfort layer that allows you to switch between a medium-firm or firm feel.
Firstly, unzip the mattress cover, insert the comfort layer, and zip it back up. Positioning the comfort layer does require a little effort with one person and is easier with two people.
To change the firmness, you unzip, flip the comfort layer over, and zip it up again.
Comfort and support
What’s it like to sleep on the Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress?
We tested the Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress in both of its available firmness settings — medium-firm and firm.
The medium-firm feels smooth and comfortable with perhaps a very slight sinking sensation. We would describe it as a 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Medium-firm
Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
As with many other adjustable firmness designs, we didn’t detect a huge difference in firmness between the medium-firm and firm options.
We found the firm option only a touch firmer — around a 6 out of 10. The feel and character of this option is again quite similar to the medium-firm
Firm
Both firmness options offer good back support and the spring system feels reasonably stable and responsive.
The Origin Hybrid Plus also responds well to normal sleep movements, and we rated its responsiveness in the optimal zone. In practical terms, changing sleep positions (or engaging in intimate activities) shouldn’t require much effort.
Responsiveness
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The Origin Hybrid Plus is well constructed, and its overall build quality feels impressive when you consider its price point. The zipper and zip pull (for the removable cover) are sturdy, smooth, and easy to use – small details that reflect thoughtful design.
As mentioned earlier, the mattress stands 29cm high, which is fairly typical for a hybrid innerspring mattress. Standard fitted sheets should fit without any issues. The side handles are vertically stitched, strongly attached, and generously sized, making them practical for rotating or moving the mattress.
Origin lists the queen size at 37kg, which is relatively light compared to many innerspring mattresses. In practice, it still feels substantial, so we’d recommend two people for lifting or rotating. The lighter weight, however, may be a bonus for households that want easier manoeuvrability.
In terms of partner disturbance, the Origin Hybrid Plus isolates movement well. A restless partner shouldn’t cause too many issues, and while there is a small amount of motion transfer, it remains within normal limits for a mattress of this category.
Edge support is one area where this mattress feels slightly softer than average. This is fairly typical for adjustable-firmness designs, as the construction sacrifices a little side stability for flexibility. Still, the reinforced perimeter makes the edges usable for most sleepers.
We didn’t notice any abnormal heat retention during testing. With its cooling graphite-infused foams, HexaGrid™ technology, and breathable TENCEL™ cover, we wouldn’t expect this mattress to trap excessive warmth.
As with all mattresses, keep in mind that sleep temperature can be affected by many external factors such as bedding, room conditions, and body type.
The Origin Hybrid Plus uses CertiPUR-US® certified foams and organic textiles, ensuring it is safe and non-toxic. Its eco-friendly TENCEL™ cover is hypoallergenic and designed for softness, thermoregulation, and durability.

Bed base compatibility
What type of bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Origin Hybrid Plus to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.
We don’t recommend the Origin Hybrid Plus be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. as this may cause damage to the mattress components. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
What happens if I don’t like it?
The Origin Hybrid Plus comes with a 120 day trial period, which is a fairly typical trial period in the online mattress market.
This trial period means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied.
This mattress also comes with a 15 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is superior to a typical warranty period compared with similarly priced competitors.
Available sizes
What size options are available?
The Origin Hybrid Plus is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size) so it should accommodate most sleeping arrangements.
The graphic below includes all of Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2025. Again please note that the Origin Hybrid Plus is available in 5 of these sizes.
Customer feedback
What are real Aussie customers saying?
As of September 2025, the Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress currently holds a 5 out of 5 star rating on ProductReview.com.au (based on only one verified review so far).
The reviewer calls out the convenience of the delivery/packaging (“being able to carry the box up our stairs with ease made the whole process stress-free”).
Because the product is relatively new, feedback is still limited. So far, comments are very positive, but a single review can’t capture long-term durability, edge wear, or how the mattress holds up over time or with heavier users.

Final verdict
Is the Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress right for you?
The Origin Hybrid Plus Mattress delivers adjustable firmness, cooling comfort, and strong lumbar support at a reasonable price.
Build quality is solid, motion isolation is good, and the 120-night trial with 15-year warranty adds peace of mind. Edge support could be firmer, but overall it’s a versatile innerspring mattress that offers good value.
