Purchase and delivery
The Origin Hybrid Mattress can be purchased online via the Origin website, with a simple and user-friendly ordering process.
Origin offers fast and free delivery to major metro areas, including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth. For eligible postcodes, next-day delivery is available for orders placed before the daily cut-off time, which is a strong offering compared to many competitors. Customers can also select a preferred delivery date at checkout.
For those outside metro areas, delivery typically takes between 3 to 8 business days. Some regional and rural locations may incur a flat delivery fee due to higher transport costs, and delivery availability can vary depending on postcode.
Our mattress arrived in good condition, with the packaging intact. As with most mattresses in a box, we recommend having two people available to help with setup, as the box can be bulky. It’s also worth planning ahead for packaging disposal, as there can be a reasonable amount to manage.
Once unpackaged, the mattress begins expanding immediately. While it can be slept on within a few hours, allowing up to 48 hours for full expansion is generally recommended for best results.
Aesthetics & Presentation
What does the Origin Hybrid Mattress look like?
The Origin Hybrid Mattress has a clean, modern look that should suit most bedroom settings. It features a light grey top panel paired with darker charcoal side panels, creating a simple contrast that gives it a more premium appearance than many typical boxed mattresses.
At 27cm in height, the mattress sits slightly lower than some traditional innerspring mattresses, but still well within a normal and practical range. Overall, the design is understated and functional rather than flashy, but it’s well executed and integrates nicely into a wide range of bedroom styles.
Mattress construction
The Origin Hybrid Mattress is an innerspring mattress that incorporates a number of comfort layers above its core support system.
1. EcoBreeze TENCEL™ Washable Cover
A removable and machine-washable cover made from TENCEL™, a eucalyptus-derived fabric known for its breathable and smooth properties.

2. AirSoft Comfort Fill
A layer of microfibre cushioning designed to provide a soft, initial surface feel.
3. Bamboo Charcoal Comfort Layer
A foam layer infused with bamboo charcoal, intended to assist with moisture management and odour control.
4. CloudComfort Memory Foam
A responsive memory foam layer that provides contouring without a deep sinking sensation.
5. HexaGrid™ Ortho Layer
A structured layer designed to offer targeted pressure relief and support across key areas of the body.
6. ErgoCoil™ 7-Zone Support System
A pocket spring system arranged into seven zones, designed to provide varying levels of support across different parts of the body while also helping to reduce partner disturbance.
7. Reinforced Support Base
A high-density base layer that supports the overall structure of the mattress, with edge reinforcement to improve stability and durability.
Comfort and support
The Natural Breeze Tencel™ cover feels soft, smooth, and may have the potential to minimise heat during sleep.
This top cover is a little uneven due to the stitching pattern but with sheets and/or a mattress protector, this shouldn’t be too noticeable.
The comfort layers combine to produce a dense, spongy feel. The comfort section itself seems to be somewhat seperate from the spring system with no obvious cohesion.
There is a sense of hardness to the top layer but the mattress still offers reasonable pressure relief.
This mattress will likely suit most back sleepers but it may also suit side sleepers and stomach sleepers. Understandably though, this suitability will vary between individuals.
When it comes to a specific firmness rating, all of our reviewers agreed that this mattress has a firm feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 8 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Firmness rating

Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Origin Hybrid Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
The 7-Zone Antigravity Springs on this mattress feel fairly strong and should provide good back support for most people. We certainly didn’t detect any sagging or dipping.
Based on the quality of these springs, we would expect this mattress to accommodate people of most sizes. A single and king single Origin Hybrid Mattress can hold up to 100kg of total weight whilst a double mattress can accommodate up to 200kgs.
A queen and king size can accommodate up to 240kgs.
The Origin Hybrid Mattress responds fairly well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Responsiveness

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality of the Origin Hybrid Mattress is respectable in context of its price.
The mattress sits a little lower (27cm) than many of its competitors – many other bed in a box options sit over 30 cm high. The D-2 Edge Support foam does help with edge support, even though it is not is not outstanding. With that said, it is still within normal limits for an innerspring mattress at this price point.
Origin omitted side handles from its original design, but this current version includes two, vertically positioned handles on each side. These handles aren’t fancy but they should make it much easier to carry, transport, and rotate the mattress.
It’s worth noting here that the Origin Hybrid Mattress holds both CertiPUR-US® and OEKO-TEX® certifications. These certifications indicate that the foams and fabrics have been tested for harmful substances, and are safe for babies and toddlers.

What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Origin Hybrid Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats such as the Sleep Republic Deluxe Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.
We don’t recommend the Origin Hybrid Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may cause damage to the mattress components. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
What happens if I don’t like it?
Origin offers a 120-night trial period, which is slightly superior to a typical trial period of 100 nights of many of its competitors.
This gives customers a good amount of time to properly assess the mattress at home. The trial begins from the date of delivery, and customers are asked to use the mattress for a minimum of 25 nights before initiating a return, allowing time for adjustment.
If the mattress isn’t suitable, returns are relatively straightforward. Origin arranges a free pickup in metro areas, with mattresses typically collected by a charity partner for donation. Once collected, a full refund is processed, usually within 7 to 14 business days.
In addition to the trial, the Origin Hybrid Mattress is backed by a 15-year warranty. This covers manufacturing defects such as significant indentations (greater than 2.5cm) and structural issues with the foam or internal components under normal use.
As expected, the warranty does not cover general wear and tear, changes in comfort preference, or damage caused by misuse or improper support.
Available sizes
What size options are available?
