How do I buy the Origin Hybrid Mattress?

The Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress is available to purchase online through the Origin website, with a straightforward and easy-to-navigate checkout process.

Origin provides fast and free delivery to major metro areas such as Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth. For eligible locations, next-business-day delivery is often available if orders are placed before the daily cut-off time, which is a strong convenience factor. Customers also have the option to select a preferred delivery date during checkout.

For customers outside of metro areas, delivery times generally range from 3 to 8 business days. Some regional and rural locations may attract an additional delivery fee, depending on the postcode and transport requirements.

Our mattress arrived in good condition, with the packaging intact. As with most mattresses in a box, we recommend having two people available for setup, as the box can be quite bulky. It’s also worth considering packaging disposal in advance, as there can be a moderate amount of material to deal with.

Once unpacked, the mattress begins expanding straight away. While it can be used within a few hours, allowing up to 48 hours for full expansion is recommended to achieve optimal decompression.

What’s it like to sleep on the Origin Hybrid Mattress?

The Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress arrives in its default configuration with the medium-firm side facing up, which features the AlignFlex Recovery Layer. For many users, this setup will be suitable straight out of the box, so no adjustments are necessary.

If you do want to modify the feel, the top cover can be unzipped to access the internal comfort layer. From here, you can flip the adjustable comfort layer so that the HexaGrid™ Plus Ortho Layer sits on top, creating a firmer sleep surface. This gives users the flexibility to choose between a medium-firm and firm configuration, depending on personal preference.

In addition to firmness adjustment, the cover itself is also reversible. One side features the soft, breathable TENCEL™ blend, while the reverse side offers a cool-to-touch performance fabric designed for warmer conditions. Overall, this dual customisation approach allows you to tailor both the feel and temperature of the mattress to suit your needs.

What’s it like to sleep on the Origin Hybrid Mattress?

It must be said that this current model of the Origin Hybrid Mattress offers a noticeable step up in comfort compared to earlier versions.

The EcoBreeze TENCEL™ cover feels smooth and soft to the touch, while the top comfort layers provide a gentle, spongy feel that cushions the body evenly. There’s good pressure absorption without excessive sink, giving the mattress a more balanced and user-friendly feel overall.

It’s a clear improvement on previous models, which tended to feel quite firm and, at times, overly rigid.

Our team rated this mattress a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

We tested the Origin Hybrid Mattress on the Porto Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

The 7-zone pocket spring system provides a reasonable level of back support. While we wouldn’t describe it as heavy-duty, it performs well in the context of its price and should be stable enough for most users.

Heavier individuals (around 100kg or more) may want something more robust, but for the average sleeper, support should be more than adequate.

The Origin Hybrid Mattress responds well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.

What else should I know?

The Origin Hybrid Mattress presents well in terms of its overall finish and attention to detail. While it doesn’t aim to be a premium product, the build quality is solid for the price point.

Stitching is neat, and the materials feel durable enough for everyday use. The zip system is a highlight – it’s large, smooth to operate, and includes subtle Origin branding. The removable and washable TENCEL™ cover is a practical feature that adds to the mattress’s usability and hygiene.

Origin also uses CertiPUR-US® certified foams and organic textiles, which is a positive inclusion at this price point. The cover itself is made from eco-friendly, hypoallergenic TENCEL™ derived from sustainable wood pulp, offering natural softness along with thermoregulation benefits and a smooth, durable finish.

While it doesn’t aim to be a premium product, the build quality is solid for the price point.

The mattress is fitted with four horizontal side handles (two on each side), which are generously sized and appear securely attached. These make rotating and moving the mattress easier.

In terms of partner disturbance, this should be minimal for most users, although this will depend on mattress size and individual body weight. Similarly, edge support is decent and should hold up for everyday use, in line with expectations at this price point.

Temperature regulation also performed well in our testing, with no noticeable heat retention, although this will always vary depending on individual factors and sleeping environment.

Bed base compatibility

What type of bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Origin Hybrid Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.

A bed base with solid slats such as the Sleep Republic Deluxe Bed Base, would also be very suitable.

Koala Paddington Bed Base

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.

We don’t recommend the Origin Hybrid Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may cause damage to the mattress components. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

What happens if I don’t like it?

Origin offers a 120-night trial period, which is slightly longer than the typical 100-night trial offered by many competitors.

This gives customers a good amount of time to properly assess the mattress at home. The trial begins from the date of delivery, and customers are asked to use the mattress for a minimum of 25 nights before initiating a return, allowing time for adjustment.

If the mattress isn’t suitable, returns are relatively straightforward. Origin arranges a free pickup in metro areas, with mattresses typically collected by a charity partner for donation. Once collected, a full refund is processed, usually within 7 to 14 business days.

In addition to the trial, the Origin Hybrid Mattress is backed by a 15-year warranty. This covers manufacturing defects such as significant indentations (greater than 2.5cm) and structural issues with the foam or internal components under normal use.

As expected, the warranty does not cover general wear and tear, changes in comfort preference, or damage caused by misuse or improper support.

We tested the Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

The titanium springs on this mattress do feel a little cheap and flimsy. We noticed a slight sagging feeling, even with our lighter framed reviewers. With that said, back support should be adequate for most people.

For heavier people (e.g. more than 100kgs), we would recommend a mattress with a stronger spring system, such as the Yinahla Posture Gel.
