JellyFish Mattress Review
The JellyFish Mattress promotes itself heavily as a product that will help to minimise allergies and asthma. Despite this claim, this mattress is quite basic in terms of design and quality. There are certainly better options available in the ‘bed in a box’ market.
Purchase and delivery
As with other mattress in a box products, you can order the JellyFish Mattress online (through the JellyFish website), and it will be delivered to your door in a compact box. Delivery is free to metro areas, however other locations may incur a delivery charge (see delivery times and details in our ‘Delivery’ section further down).
The JellyFish Mattress was easy to remove from its packaging, and should only take 5-10 minutes to unpack. As usual, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box. As per our standard testing process, we gave it 24 hours to decompress before we conducted our testing.
In terms of appearance, the JellyFish Mattress uses a characteristic (dull) green and white colour theme. It isn’t the most stylish looking mattress on the market, and its external design looks similar to the popular Koala Mattress.
Comfort and support
The JellyFish Mattress starts with a breathable fabric cover that is ‘chemical free’. This cover is removable and washable, but feels rather basic and unrefined.
Underneath this outer cover, lies a high density ‘open cell’ foam layer which is specially treated with ‘Ultra-Fresh’. This (supposedly) helps those who suffer allergies, asthma, or eczema in response to fungal and dust mite allergen. This is obviously difficult to measure, but we’ll take their word for it.
This top comfort layer is fairly comfortable, and it does offer adequate pressure relief. The mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, this suitability will vary between individuals.
In terms of firmness, our team rated it as a ‘medium’ feel and a 6.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
The JellyFish Mattress uses a ‘high density open cell foam’ as its support structure. This offers reasonable spinal support but the mattress doesn’t feel particularly solid or robust like many of its innerspring mattress competitors. It may struggle with heavy people.
The JellyFish Mattress responds well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the ‘optimal’ zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be too much trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality of the JellyFish Mattress is fair. Edge support is noticeably deficient and its fabric covering looks and feels a bit cheap. It does have a low level of partner disturbance, but this may vary depending on the size of occupants.
It’s worth noting that the JellyFish Mattress comes with a 90 night trial period and a 10 year warranty.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the JellyFish Mattress to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).
A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
Sleep Republic Pro Base
Furthermore, we do not recommend the JellyFish Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this will also void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Available sizes
This mattress is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size) so it should accommodate almost all sleeping arrangements.

Final verdict
Despite the potential advantages relating to asthma and allergies, the JellyFish Mattress does not carry the refinement of many of its competitors. It has a basic design, and its durability is questionable. Based on our testing of over 150 mattress in a box products, there are better options available.
Bedbuyer’s rating: 3.2 / 5
Here are our ratings for each category:

Value for Money
The Peacelily Mattress is another well certified, non-toxic mattress that Bedbuyer rated better in terms of comfort and support.
If you’re after a similarly priced pocket spring mattress, the Sleep Republic Mattress is far superior and was our pick as the ‘best overall’ mattress in a box in 2021.

Effects of the environment on our health
Jellyfish foam is a way to reduce asthma and allergy triggers in your home. Moulds, Mildews, fungus, bacteria and dust mites are proven to be significant triggers for asthma, hay fever and eczema. The foam prevents the growth of bacteria, fungi and the inhibition of dust mites aiming to reduce triggers for eczema, asthma and other allergies in homes.
Scientific tests have compared visual microbial growth and the affect the antimicrobial technologies have on the growth of bacteria. A further test determined the numerical reduction of bacteria activity when tested against antimicrobial technologies. Similar tests were completed for fungi and mildew growth resulting in the sample remaining free from fungal and mildew growth.
