Purchase and delivery
How do I buy the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress?
The Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress can be purchased directly from the Emma Sleep website and is delivered compressed in a box for easier transportation and handling.
Due to the weight of the mattress, especially in the larger sizes, we recommend having two people available to assist with moving and unpacking. Once removed from the box, the mattress expands quickly, although we recommend allowing up to 24 hours before sleeping on it or carrying out any testing.
Our mattress arrived well protected during transit and was in excellent condition upon delivery.
Emma offers free delivery to many metropolitan locations throughout Australia. Customers in selected outer metropolitan and regional areas may incur a non-refundable delivery fee of either $79 or $160, depending on their location, and delivery times may be slightly longer.
In keeping with our standard testing procedure, we allowed the mattress to fully expand for 24 hours before commencing our assessment.
Aesthetics and presentation
What does it look like in real life?
The Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress has a clean, modern appearance that gives it a premium look. Its bright white sleeping surface is complemented by darker side panels and piping, creating a simple, contemporary design that should suit most bedroom decors.
The cover features a subtle Emma logo pattern that adds a little visual interest without being overly bold. The branding is understated and blends nicely with the mattress’s minimalist styling.
With a height of 26cm, the Emma Luxe ViscoCool has a streamlined profile that sits lower than many premium innerspring mattresses. The stitching, panel alignment, and overall finish are all neatly executed, resulting in a mattress that looks and feels well made.
Mattress construction
What’s inside the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress?
The Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress is an innerspring mattress that combines multiple comfort foam layers with a seven-zone pocket spring support system.
Its layered construction is designed to deliver enhanced cooling, excellent pressure relief, and responsive support while promoting long-term durability.
1. PolarLuxe™ Cooling Cover
The PolarLuxe™ Cooling Cover is designed to feel cool and soft from the moment you lie down. Its breathable knitted fabric incorporates micro-dot ventilation to encourage airflow across the sleeping surface, helping maintain a fresher sleeping environment.
2. ThermoSync™ Graphite-Infused Foam
Located directly beneath the cover is Emma’s ThermoSync™ graphite-infused foam. This layer is engineered to help dissipate excess body heat, assisting with temperature regulation throughout the night.
3. ViscoCool™ Memory Foam
The ViscoCool™ memory foam layer provides the mattress’s primary source of pressure relief. It contours closely to the body’s natural curves, delivering excellent cushioning while helping distribute body weight evenly across the sleeping surface.
4. SupportBase Foam
A supportive transition foam sits beneath the comfort layers, helping relieve pressure on sensitive areas while providing a gradual transition into the spring support system. It also contributes to overall stability and helps minimise excessive sinkage.
5. 7-Zone Pocket Spring System
The core of the mattress features individually wrapped pocket springs arranged into seven ergonomic support zones. These springs provide responsive support, reduce partner disturbance, and are surrounded by a reinforced foam perimeter to improve edge support and maximise the usable sleeping surface.
6. SupportBase Foundation Foam
Beneath the spring system is a second SupportBase foam layer that provides a stable foundation for the mattress. This layer contributes to the mattress’s structural integrity and long-term durability.
7. Non-Slip Base Cover
The underside of the mattress is finished with a non-slip fabric designed to help keep the mattress securely positioned on the bed base while enhancing overall stability during everyday use.
Comfort and support
What’s it like to sleep on the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress?
The Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress has a smooth, comfortable feel with a slightly spongy sleeping surface. As you settle into position, the ViscoCool™ memory foam creates a subtle slow-melting sensation that gently contours to the body’s natural curves while providing nice pressure relief.
The mattress offers a balanced combination of comfort and support that should suit many side, back, and stomach sleepers. As always, the ideal mattress will vary depending on individual body type and personal comfort preferences.
By majority vote, we rated the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress as 6 / 10 on the firmness scale, with 10 being the firmest.
Firmness rating

Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress on the Naptime Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
Overall, we found the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress to provide good back support. The seven-zone pocket spring system creates a stable sleeping surface, while the comfort layers contour to the body without compromising overall support.
The mattress also responds well to movement. We rated the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress within the optimal responsiveness zone, meaning most sleepers should find it easy to change sleeping positions throughout the night without feeling restricted by the comfort layers.
Responsiveness

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
What else should I know?
The Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress is finished to a good overall standard and feels more substantial than many other Emma mattresses we have tested. The materials and construction give it a premium feel, while the overall presentation is neat and well executed.
The PolarLuxe™ Cooling Cover is soft and pleasant to the touch, contributing to the mattress’s comfortable sleeping surface. Four sturdy vertical side handles are also incorporated into the design, making the mattress much easier to rotate and reposition.
Motion isolation is another strength of the Emma Luxe ViscoCool. During our testing, movement transferred very little across the mattress, making it a good option for couples who wish to minimise partner disturbance.
Edge support was satisfactory. While it isn’t among the strongest we’ve tested, the reinforced foam perimeter provides enough stability for sitting or sleeping near the edge without any major concerns.
Cooling performance was also good. The PolarLuxe™ Cooling Cover feels pleasantly cool to the touch, and we didn’t notice any abnormal heat retention during our testing. As with all mattresses, however, sleeping temperature will vary between individuals and is influenced by a range of factors beyond the mattress itself.
We were unable to find any third-party certifications relating to non-toxic materials or environmental standards for the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress. As always, we encourage manufacturers to obtain recognised independent certifications where possible.
Other details
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress to be used on a bed base with solid slats such as the Ecosa Haven Bed Frame.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.
We don’t recommend the Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
What happens if I don’t like it?
The Emma Luxe ViscoCool Mattress comes with a generous 150-night trial period, giving customers plenty of time to assess whether the mattress is the right fit in the comfort of their own home.
If it doesn’t meet expectations, Emma Sleep offers free returns and a full refund, subject to the conditions of its trial policy.
The mattress is also covered by a 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects and faults in materials or workmanship under normal residential use. As with any mattress purchase, we recommend reviewing the full trial and warranty terms on the Emma Sleep website before buying, as certain conditions and exclusions apply.
