Ecosa Vital Mattress Review
The Ecosa Vital Mattress is a respectable, innerspring mattress. It forms part of the Ecosa mattress range that also includes the well known Ecosa Mattress and the flagship Ecosa Pure Mattress.
Purchase and delivery
As with other ‘beds in a box’, the Ecosa Vital Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the Ecosa website) and it will arrive at your door in a box (see delivery times in the ‘Delivery’ section further down). Delivery is free, and our box arrived in good condition.
The Ecosa Vital Mattress was relatively easy to remove from its packaging. As usual though, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box.
Unpacking the Ecosa Vital Mattress should only take 5-10 minutes, and we allowed it to decompress for 24 hours before testing.
Aesthetically, the Ecosa Vital Mattress has a fresh, modern appearance. It sits 23cm high and uses a blue and grey colour theme.
Comfort and support
The Ecosa Vital Mattress starts with an OceanCycled™ cover that is removable and (machine) washable. This cover sits over several comfort layers that include ‘Air Memory Foam’, Tranquil Foam, and Transition Foam.
This comfort layer feels foamy and spongy, with a ‘sandy’ sensation during sleep movements. It feels reasonably dense and moulds to the body quite tightly.
The mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but this suitability will vary between individuals.
Based on our testing, our team rated it as a ‘medium’ feel and a 6 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
The main support section of the Ecosa Vital Mattress is a 7 zone pocket spring system. This spring unit offers reasonable support, but it may struggle under the weight of heavier people. As with most ‘zoned’ mattresses, our review team found it difficult to feel the difference in tension between the zones.
The Ecosa Vital Mattress doesn’t have the natural bounce and responsiveness that you might expect from an innerspring mattress. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) may be easier on other mattresses.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
At just 40 kgs (Queen size) the Ecosa Vital Mattress is relatively light. This should make it easy to transport and rotate. It should also make it easier to change the bed sheets, which can be quite difficult with heavier mattresses.
As a comparison, the Eva Mattress which is a popular innerspring mattress in a box, weighs 55 kgs (Queen size).
Edge support is a little lacking, although based on its height and weight, it is what we would expect. Although the mattress is light in weight, the lack of side handles will limit your ability to move and transport the mattress.
The Ecosa Vital Mattress appears to have a strong eco-friendly theme.
The Ecosa Vital Mattress appears to have a strong eco-friendly theme. The OceanCycled™ Cover uses 120 plastic bottles collected from the ocean. The mattress also claims that all carbon produced to create and deliver the mattress is offset via Green Story.
The OceanCycled™ Cover is also certified as non-toxic by OEKO-TEX®, one the world’s leading authorities in fabric testing. Furthermore, the foams used in the Ecosa Vital Mattress are certified as non-toxic by CertiPUR-US.
It’s worth noting here that the Ecosa Vital Mattress comes with a solid 100 night trial period and a 15 year warranty.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Ecosa Vital Mattress to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).
A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
Sleep Republic Pro Base
Furthermore, we do not recommend the Ecosa Vital Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may also void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Available sizes
This mattress is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size) so it should accommodate most sleeping situations.

Final verdict
The Ecosa Vital Mattress is a decent mattress but it does lack the refinement of other products in this price bracket. Nevertheless, its eco-friendly theme and non-toxic certifications are appealing.

Pocket springs are individually wrapped coils that move independently to contour to your body, and firmer springs are used along the perimeter of the mattress for reinforced edge support.
