The Ecosa Align Firm Mattress makes up part of the well-known Ecosa product range that also includes the popular Ecosa Mattress and the flagship Ecosa Pure Mattress.

Purchase and delivery

As with other mattress in a box options, the Ecosa Align Firm Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the Ecosa website) and it will arrive at your door in a box.

Ecosa does offer next-day delivery to major metro areas. With that said, delivery costs and times will vary depending on your location, so please see our Delivery Information section further down.

Our box arrived in good condition and the mattress was relatively easy to remove from its packaging. As usual though, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box.

Unpacking the Ecosa Align Firm Mattress should only take 5-10 minutes, and we allowed it to decompress for 48 hours before testing.

The mattress comes with a handy cutting tool, as well as a small product pack that includes useful information about the mattress.

Aesthetically, the Ecosa Align Firm Mattress has a simple, clean look. It sits 20cm high which is below average for an innerspring mattress, but still within normal limits.

The mattress uses a grey and white colour theme.

Mattress construction

1. Cooling Cover

The top cover of this mattress is made of a moisture-wicking, breathable, TENCEL blend fabric. This is designed to help you sleep cool.

2. High-Density Latex Foam

Sitting directly under the top cover, is a layer of hypoallergenic Dunlop Latex. This layer has pincore holes for airflow,  and is designed to help isolate motion, relieve pressure and improve breathability.

3. Convoluted Wave Foam

Underneath the latex sits a layer of moulded foam that helps to distribute weight evenly. It also aims to relieve pressure on the shoulders and hips. Its egg carton shape also creates pockets of air, maximising airflow for comfy nights.

This layer is certified as non-toxic by CertiPUR-US.

4. High-Gauge Pocket Springs

The main support system of this mattress is a heavy-duty pocket spring system.

These springs provide an extra-firm sleep surface with plenty of responsiveness. Moving independently, they provide pressure-relieving support, promote neutral spinal alignment, and help to reduce partner disturbance.

These springs also optimising airflow, helping to regulate sleep temperature.

5. Hard Felt

This layer of felt provides protection for the pocket springs and adds an extra layer of support.

6. 3D Mesh

This mesh material on the sides of the mattress allow air to move freely through the layers.

7. Durable Base Cover

This layer sits on the very bottom of the mattress. It is eco-friendly, durable, and contains polyester made from recycled plastic bottles.

Comfort and support

Although the top cover of the mattress doesn’t feel overly sophisticated, it is fairly soft and breathable.

The top comfort layer (high-density latex foam and convoluted wave foam) doesn’t offer much pressure relief, but this is to be expected on an extra-firm mattress.

The Ecosa Align Firm Mattress should suit most back sleepers, and may not be suitable for side sleepers or stomach sleepers. Understandably though, this suitability will vary between individuals.

All of our expert reviewers agreed that this mattress has an ‘extra-firm’ feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 9 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the Ecosa Align Firm Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

The Ecosa Align Firm Mattress offers good back support and the pocket spring system feels strong and responsive. This mattress should accommodate people of most sizes.

The pocket spring system also isolates motion well, so partner disturbance is minimal.

With that said, motion transfer may vary. A larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.

The Ecosa Align Firm Mattress is noticeably bouncy and responds well to normal sleep movements. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be too much trouble.

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

The Ecosa Align Firm Mattress is relatively well made. The materials, fabric, and stitching all appear to be of reasonable quality.

Edge support is firm, so users should be able to use the full mattress surface without fear of falling off the edge.

The Ecosa Align Firm Mattress comes with practical side handles. These handles are positioned parallel to the mattress edge and are attached strongly.

The layer of convoluted wave foam is certified by CertiPUR-US, one of the world’s leading authorities in foam testing. This certification should give some reassurance that this product is safe to bring into your home.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Ecosa Align Firm Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.

A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.

Chiropedic Bed Base

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

The Ecosa Align Firm Mattress comes with a 100 night trial period, which is a typical trial period in the online mattress market. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied (conditions do apply).

This mattress also comes with a 15 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is a superior warranty period in context of similarly priced competitors.

This mattress is available in 6 sizes (super king, king, queen, double, king single, and single size) so it should accommodate most sleeping situations.
