1. Macoda Pillow – $150

Best Pillows

Macoda is best known for its award-winning mattress, but the Macoda Pillow is also in award-winning territory. It presents beautifully with a bright white cover, and its dimensions (14cm high, 66cm long, 40cm wide) are typical of an Australian sized pillow.

This product has a lovely ‘eco-friendly’ bamboo cover that is removable and washable. This will allow you to keep your pillow clean, and free of nasty bacteria and dust mites. The stand out feature of this pillow though, is its unique versatility of two different sleeping surfaces.

On one side, is an ‘open air structure’ that is covered with a ‘cooling gel glaze’. This side is designed specially for cooling and is perfect for those who tend to sleep hot. The other side contains a unique ‘bamboo charcoal infused memory foam’ which is not only comfortable, but it also helps to absorb moisture and minimise bacteria.

Buyers can also sleep easy, knowing that the memory foam in this product has been certified by CertiPUR-US® as non-toxic. The bamboo cover has also been thoroughly tested and is certified as non-toxic by the OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

This gem from Macoda is suitable for all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and front sleepers) and has a wide reaching appeal. It is good value, comes with free delivery, and offers a handy 60 night free trial period. This means that if you are not satisfied, you can return the product for a refund.

This is truly and excellent pillow and one of the best on the market in 2022. Here is our full review.

Bedbuyer’s rating:  4.9 / 5

2. Bamboo Classic – $161.10

Best Pillows

The Chiropedic Bamboo Classic is the ‘traditional shaped’ version of the Chiropedic Bamboo Contour (listed below). The Bamboo Classic is a lovely, comfortable pillow that has broad appeal and should suit most side sleepers.

The Chiropedic Bamboo Classic comes in one standard size (14cm high, 60cm long, 40cm wide) and offers plenty of comfort and pressure relief. Support isn’t lacking either, so this pillow should help to maintain the correct head position during sleep.

This visco memory foam is encased with a removable (and washable) natural bamboo fabric cover. This cover feels durable, breathable, and is easy to remove.

3. Sleep Republic Pillow – $130

Best Pillows

The Sleep Republic Pillow comes in 2 height choices – a high profile option (14cm high) or a low profile option (10cm high, pictured above). Both options have a typical length (60cm) and width (40cm).

The high profile option is perhaps best suited to side sleeping adults, but it should accommodate all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, stomach sleepers). The low profile option is best suited for adult back sleepers, as well as being ideal for kids. In fact, the low profile option is one of the best kids pillows that we have tested.

Bedbuyer’s rating:  4.8 / 5

4. Bamboo Contour – $161.10

Best Pillows

Contour pillows have become very popular over the last 10 years in Australia. Contour pillows ‘contour’ to the shape of your head and neck, and are different in shape to the traditional pillow shape.

The Chiropedic Bamboo Contour comes in one standard size (14cm high, 60cm long, 40cm wide) and is one of the best contour pillows on the market. Like most contour pillows, this product uses a ‘dual contour shape’. This allows you to choose the best height for your neck, helping to maintain good spinal alignment.

Bedbuyer’s rating:  4.8 / 5

5. Emma Foam Pillow – $114

Best Pillows

The Emma Foam Pillow looks like any other pillow from the outside, but it has a unique design that allows you to customise your firmness (and height). It presents well with a modern style, and has typical dimensions (70cm long, 40cm wide).

The outer cover of this pillow is made from a 98% polyester and 2% elastane fabric. This feels durable, and is removable and washable. This fabric also uses ‘moisture-wicking UltraDry technology’ to help you sleep cool and dry.

This product uses 3 different foam layers in its construction – a supportive HRX Supreme Foam, a breathable Airgocell® foam, and a softer, viscoelastic foam. By simply flipping the pillow over, you can choose what firmness you like best. You can also remove each foam layer to alter the height of the pillow.

Not surprisingly, this product is suitable for all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers), and its level of innovative is quite impressive.

The foam layers in this pillow are all certified with the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 so you can feel confident that this product is safe for you and your family.

And the 100 night trial period may just seal the deal for many shoppers. Here is our full review.

Bedbuyer’s rating:  4.8 / 5

6. Newentor Morpheus – $69.99

The Newentor Morpheus Pillow makes up part of the popular Newentor bedding range. Amazingly, this pillow comes in 6 different sizes, from ‘Extra Small’ (7.5cm high, 58cm long, 35cm wide) to ‘Extra Extra Large’ (15cm high, 63cm long, 40cm wide).

This large choice of sizes should cover all different body sizes and sleeping positions. We tested the ‘Large’ size (12cm high, 61cm long, 38cm wide) which should accommodate most people well.

This pillow is noticeably light in weight and presents nicely, with a grey coloured fabric cover. This cover not only looks the part, but it feels smooth and soft. It can also be removed and machine washed, making it easy to keep the pillow clean.

This pillow has a unique design with two different sleeping surfaces. The ‘soft side’ is made up of a G-7 memory foam that offers a nice level of comfort and pressure relief.  The ‘firm side’ uses a high density foam that has a more supportive feel.

Another important aspect of this pillow is its level of ventilation. Inside, is a special 3D structure with 40 independent support cushions. This helps to disperse heat and moisture from the pillow surface, helping to prevent overheating.

This is a great product from Newentor and takes a worthy position in this list. Here is our full review.

Bedbuyer’s rating:  4.6 / 5

7. Ecoy Memory Foam – $72

The Ecoy Memory Foam Pillow has a gentle contoured shape, and would suit those looking for a supportive, yet comfortable feel. It has typical dimensions (40cm wide, 60cm long) and has a simple, yet effective design.

This pillow should suit back sleepers and side sleepers, but it may also suit front sleepers as well. Like most contour pillows, each ‘bump’ has a slightly different height, so you can choose which side feels best for your neck.

Use code BEDBUYER10 for best price

The Ecoy Memory Foam Pillow has a bamboo fabric cover that feels soft and breathable. Bamboo is an eco-friendly material and has natural hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties. This cover can also be removed and (cold water) washed.

The main section of this pillow consists of memory foam which is well balanced with comfort and support. The contoured shape sits nicely under your neck, helping to maintain your neck and shoulders in a neutral position during sleep.

This pillow comes with free delivery and a 30 night free trial period. Here is our full review.

Bedbuyer’s rating:  4.5 / 5

8. Peacelily Pillow – $119

Best Pillows

Unlike most pillows on the market (that incorporate foam components), the Peacelily Pillow is made from 100% natural latex, along with a 100% organic cotton cover. Although it has the typical ‘rubbery’ latex feel, it is still very comfortable and should suit all sleeping positions.

The Peacelily Pillow presents well with a natural, earthy vibe.  Its dimensions are 12.5cm high, 74cm long, 43cm wide – slightly longer than a typical Australian pillow, but still within normal limits.

Latex is commonly used in bedding products as it is comfortable, sustainable, and durable. Generally speaking, latex will hold its shape for longer than even the best quality foams.

The latex used in the Peacelily Pillow contains 100% natural latex from Sri Lanka, where some of the highest quality latex is found. This latex is highly certified as non-toxic by many reputable testing groups, making it safe to bring into your bedroom.

This pillow is well backed with a 1 year warranty, as well as a 100 night risk free trial. For those who like the unique, bouncy feel of latex, this pillow is a beauty. Here is our full review.

Bedbuyer’s rating:  4.5 / 5

9. Koala Pillow – $169

Best Pillows

The Koala Pillow is one of many products in the Koala bedding collection. Koala first appeared on the scene in 2015 with its iconic Koala Mattress, which in many ways, revolutionised online mattress shopping. Since then, Koala has diversified its range into a complete bedroom and lifestyle collection.

During the unpacking process, the product box plays ‘twinkle twinkle little star’. This is a lovely touch by Koala, and certainly adds to the customer experience.

The Koala Pillow has fairly typical dimensions for an Australian pillow (15cm high, 72cm long, 39cm wide). It has a warm, natural vibe and has a cover made of 66% polyester and 34% TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers.

Like other products in our best pillows list, this product offers the choice of a firm side or a soft side. This would most likely be due to different foam densities in the inner foam core (‘Polyurethane Gel Foam’).

This pillow has a nice balance of comfort and support, and should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers). The polyurethane foam is certified as non-toxic by CertiPUR-US® so you can feel safe bringing this product into your bedroom.

This product comes with free delivery and 1 year warranty. It also has an 120 night trial period which means that you can return it for a refund if you aren’t satisfied. Here is our full review.

Bedbuyer’s rating:  4.4 / 5

10. Octasmart Pillow – $65

The Octasmart Pillow is a soft, lightweight product that uses ‘Octaspring® technology’ – a network of cleverly designed ‘foam springs’. It is suitable for all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, stomach sleepers), and has typical dimensions (13cm high, 60cm long, 40cm wide).

This pillow presents well with Octasmart embroidery stitched into the ‘Smart Performance cover’. This cover feels soft and well ventilated, and has hypoallergenic properties.

This cover sits over a layer of ‘Superfine Wellsleep fibres’ that help to provide comfort and softness. Making up the main body of the pillow is the Octaspring® layer which combines the comfort of foam with the support of springs.

Inside the Octasprings is an Octavent™ air system. This works to expel hot air and draw fresh cool air back in, helping to reduce body temperature during sleep. This is good news for hot sleepers, and is one of the most breathable pillows on the market.

The Octasmart Pillow comes with an 80 night risk free trial, so you can return it for a refund if you are not satisfied. It also comes with free delivery and a 2 year warranty.

This product is ideal for those who prefer a ‘soft, light’ feel. Here is our full review.

Bedbuyer’s rating:  4.3 / 5

Before you make your final decision, here is some important information that you need to know before you buy!

Buying a pillow in 2022

Choosing the right pillow should involve more than grabbing a few ‘decent looking’ ones at familiar department or bedding stores. The beauty about today’s bedding market is that there are a heap of excellent products available online, as well as in-store.

Best PillowsThe Koala Pillow

When choosing, it is important to recognise what pillows are best for different sleeping positions, what price range we should be looking at, and what products offer long lasting comfort and support.

Generally speaking, pillows with a high profile (e.g. 14cm high) will be best suited for side sleepers, whereas products with a lower profile (e.g. 10cm high) are best suited for back or stomach sleepers.

Of course, this is a general rule, and selecting the correct pillow will come down to a number of factors, including sleeping position, shoulder width, firmness preference etc.

What makes a good pillow?

Along with a mattress, a pillow is hugely important for our sleep quality. A good pillow should provide the appropriate support for our head (and neck), and should accomodate us correctly in different sleeping positions.

Our pillow should also be comfortable and offer our head a nice level ‘pressure relief’. As much as we want support, our pillow needs to feel nice to sleep on.

The Macoda Pillow

Pillows should also be breathable and well ventilated. This will help with temperature regulation so that we don’t become hot and uncomfortable during sleep.

Many pillows (e.g. also the Sleep Republic Pillow) come with non-toxic certifications. These certifications indicate that the materials used in the product have been tested thoroughly for harmful substances.

Considering the proximity of our airways to our pillow, a product that has been certified non-toxic is obviously an important consideration for shoppers.

Shapes, sizes, and materials

Pillows in Australia come in different shapes and sizes (e.g. contour shape, traditional shape), but a typical pillow size is a rectangular shape of 60cm wide, 40cm deep, and 12cm high.

Best PillowsEcoy Bamboo Memory Foam Pillow

Interestingly, this is somewhat different to a standard European size pillow which is more of a square shape (65cm wide, 65cm deep).

There is also a range of different materials that are used in pillow. Various foams (e.g. memory foam) are most common, but latex, wool, and down feathers are also commonly used.

Price

In terms of price, pillows in Australia range from $20 all the way up past $300. With that said, but you can get a great pillow for around $100. We have generally found that once you venture under $50, quality and support are lacking.

Some pillows, such as the Emma Foam Pillow, offer a ‘free trial period’. This means that once you buy, you can return the product for a refund if you are not satisfied.

So there you have it! We hope that this information helps you in the search for your perfect pillow, but if you have any queries, leave a comment below or contact our friendly team. We are here to help!
