Macoda Mattress Review
The Macoda Mattress is beautifully comfortable and was once again awarded Australia’s ‘Best Comfort’ Mattress in a Box in 2021. It is a great option for those looking for a softer feel mattress, at an affordable price.
Purchase and delivery
Like other mattress in a box products, the Macoda Mattress can be simply ordered online, and it will arrive at your door in a compact box. Delivery is free and shipping times are fast (see delivery times in ‘Delivery’ section below).
It was relatively easy to remove from its packaging, and as usual, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box. With this in mind, it is still possible to unpack this mattress with one person.
Unpacking the Macoda Mattress should only take 5-10 minutes, and we allowed it to decompress for 24 hours before testing. You can see this mattress in ‘real life’ in our video review here:
The mattress presents with a rather ‘funky’ appearance, using a characteristic white and royal blue colour combination. Its brand name embroidery also gives it a nice touch of class.
Comfort layers
The cover of this mattress consists of a bamboo fabric and ‘quilting foam’. It has a network of diagonal lines (that form small ridges over the top surface), and feels smooth and luxurious. It is possibly our favourite ‘top cover’ in the bed in a box market.
You could say that Macoda has nailed the term ‘affordable luxury’.
This top cover sits over comfort layers of premium latex, gel-infused memory foam, and a high density support foam. This comfort layer is incredibly comfortable, and absorbs body weight smoothly. It is worth noting here that the Macoda Mattress is ‘customisable’, meaning that you can you can adjust the firmness of the mattress by flipping its top foam layers.
Comfort and support
The ‘default’ configuration that the mattress arrives in (latex on top) feels soft, is the version that we liked the most. If you are feeling a bit adventurous, the configuration with memory foam on top feels a little more ‘spongy’, and the support foam on top feels a little more ‘dense’.
Although each configuration feels slightly different, we didn’t detect much difference in ‘firmness’. Our team rated all 3 configurations as a ‘soft-medium’ feel and a 4.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
The main support structure of the Macoda Mattress is a 5 zone pocket spring system. This provides good spinal support and has a very good level of responsiveness (bounce). To this point, moving into different positions during sleep is no trouble, and it feels noticeably different to memory foam mattresses (such as the Ergoflex Mattress or Tempur mattresses).
The finer details
The overall build quality of the Macoda Mattress is admirable. Switching the foam layers is straight forward, and this is made easier with a strong zip mechanism. Each comfort layer also has a protective covering of fabric, demonstrating Macoda’s attention to detail.
The sides of the mattress also have convenient handles which feel strong and durable. This makes carrying the mattress (when rotating or during transport), much easier.
It is also worth noting that the Macoda Mattress is well certified as non-toxic and comes with a solid 100 night trial period and a 10 year warranty.
Please note that we do not recommend the Macoda Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
Available sizes
This mattress is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size) so it should accommodate most bedroom arrangements. Here are Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2021.
Final verdict
The Macoda Mattress is a lovely mattress and a great buy for those who prefer a softer feel. It has a level of comfort that is unmatched in the mattress in a box market, and is a worthy award winner in 2021. You could say that Macoda has nailed the term ‘affordable luxury’.

Sleep cool
The layer of cloud like memory foam is infused with thousands of cooling gel beads, which are activated by your body temperature to make sure you stop sleeping hot.
Hybrid comfort
Our hybrid mattress combines foam and pocket springs to provide a level of comfort miles above a traditional spring mattress and support that pure foam mattresses just aren’t capable of.
Responsive
We’re bringing the bounce back to the bedroom. With a supportive layer of latex, you’ll get just the right amount of responsiveness and cushioning from your bed, without the sinking feeling.
Soft, silky & luxurious bamboo
Bamboo wicks moisture, to ensure you and your mattress stay feeling fresh. It’s also highly breathable, super soft and one of the most eco-friendly fabrics on the planet.
Targeted pressure relief
By conforming to your body, the Macoda alleviates pressure where it’s needed most, and works to align the spine. A perfect mattress for side sleepers, back sleepers and everything in between.
No partner disturbance
Say goodbye. A foundation of hundreds of independent pocket springs means motion doesn’t transfer across the mattress. Less tossing and turning, more deep sleeping.
Zoned support
The Macoda mattress has 5 unique zones that target different areas of your body. More support for where you need it, more comfort where you dont. A firm edge support keeps you where you should be night after night.
Hypoallergenic
Our natural latex layer is something you can feel good on, and feel good about. Latex is hypoallergenic, resistant to bedroom nasties like dust mites and mould. Breathable and fresh, you can sleep healthy and happy.
Durability
High quality polyurethane foam provides support and durability you can rely on. By preventing sagging of the mattress, this layer will ensure great sleep for years.
Macoda Pocket Springs
Weight distribution of the human body isn’t a simple thing, so your mattresses shouldn’t be either. With five different zones of support, areas of the body that need more get exactly that, which in turn helps to ensure spinal alignment for a therapeutic sleep. Macoda’s 5-Zone system means you’re always getting the support you need where you need it.
The Macoda Mattress is perfect straight out of the box with a supportive yet soft-medium feel. However, we understand not everyone sleeps the same, so we put the power in your hands. With adjustable firmness, all you need to do is unzip and flip to get your perfect sleep.
The Macoda Mattress has a completely unique design, allowing you to change the comfort setting of your bed in the comfort of your own home. The white top of the mattress can be unzipped and removed, revealing two foam inserts. By flipping these inserts, your mattress can adjust between a soft, medium and firm comfort setting in a couple of minutes.
A foundation of hundreds of independent pocket springs provide superior quality and a level of support and comfort beyond that of full foam mattresses. With extra firm edges, there’ll be no more dreaded side sag or worrying about rolling off your bed in the middle of the night.

Hi,
Could you tell me if I could use the macoda mattress on an adjustable bed?
Thank you, Lisette
Hi Lisette,
We don’t recommend the Macoda Mattress to go on an adjustable bed base.
We do have a special list of mattresses though that are compatible with adjustable bed bases. You can find them on this link here.
Hope that helps but please let us know how you go!

Thanks for your advice
Just thought I would post this for the benefit of others.
I am currently sleeping on the Macoda mattress (double bed size), about 50 nights into the 100 night trial period as of Feb 1 2021.
I am a side sleeper with arthritis but even with the softest configuration I can still feel pressure on my hips which results in restless sleep. (I have tried ALL of the configurations for this mattress.)
I also have a new 8 cm thick cool gel mattress topper of my own which, on top of the mattress, results in an overall ‘too soft’ feel and (unfortunately) also gives me a backache in the morning.
I mention the topper because a few nights ago I got the wild idea of placing my topper UNDERNEATH the mattress instead (on my solid wood bed base) and for the last two nights this has actually been quite an improvement.
Soft enough for pressure relief but not so soft as to give me an aching back.
Quite surprising but I am not entirely confident that this comfort will last, dependent as it is on something more than the mattress itself.
I will probably return the Macoda as I need a mattress which will provide the necessary comfort and support without the addition of any other padding by me.
The Macoda is a very nice mattress but I just don’t think it is the mattress for me.
Cheers and thanks for reading. 🙂
Hi Lea,
Thanks for the update and sorry to hear that this mattress isn’t working for you.
A sensible next option would be the Silent Night London mattress (in a medium or plush). This mattress offers excellent comfort and good support. You can try it out at any Beds n Dreams store – full store list is linked here (mention Bedbuyer in-store to claim our special pricing).
For your reference, our full review of Silent Night London (medium) is linked here.
Hope that helps but please let us know how you go.

Hi
I prefer a soft comfort mattress and my husband a firm mattress. I can’t see many mattress in the box brands that seem to do the single xl – so that we can each have our preferred mattress on our king size bed base.
Also can you tell me if the Macoda can also be viewed at and Beds n Dreams store. Also what other bed in the box options can be viewed there. It is important that we can have the 100 days trial which many retailers who have stores do not offer.

Hi Andrea,
Thanks for the background information.
Firstly, there are a few mattress in a box brands that do a ‘long single’ size (2 long singles make up a king size):
1. Sleep Republic Mattress (medium-firm) – our full review is linked here.
2. Ecosa Mattress (firm) – our full review is linked here.
3. Zeek Hybrid Mattress (medium-soft) – our full review is linked here.
The Sleeping Duck Mattress would also be one to consider. It doesn’t come in a long single size but it allows you to order different firmness levels on each side – our full review is linked here.
The Macoda Mattress is not available to try in-store, but you do have the 100 night trial period.
Beds n Dreams do have a few mattress in a box options but unfortunately none of them come with a trial period.
Hope that helps but please let us know how you go!
