Purchase and delivery

How do I buy the Onebed Max Mattress?

The Onebed Max Mattress can be purchased online through the Onebed website, where orders are processed securely and delivered directly to your home.

Onebed offers free shipping to most areas across mainland Australia and Tasmania, although some regional or remote locations may incur an additional delivery fee. Any applicable charges are clearly displayed at checkout prior to purchase. Estimated delivery timeframes are also provided at checkout and will vary depending on location and product availability.

Once dispatched, tracking information is provided so you can follow the progress of your order. Delivery is to your front door, and the mattress arrives compressed and rolled inside a cardboard box for easy handling.

Our sample arrived in fair condition, with the packaging providing adequate protection during transit. The box itself is fairly plain, using a standard brown cardboard finish rather than more premium packaging seen in earlier versions.

As with most mattresses in a box, there is a moderate amount of packaging to dispose of, including cardboard and plastic. We recommend allowing up to 48 hours for the mattress to fully expand before use.

Aesthetics and Presentation

What does it look like in real life?

The Onebed Max Mattress has a clean, modern look with a distinctive deep navy colour that sets it apart from the typical mattress-in-a-box. The textured top panel and neatly stitched side panels give it a tidy, well-finished appearance, with subtle branding that keeps things understated.

At around 30cm high, it has a solid, substantial profile on the bed. The vertical stitching along the sides adds a touch of detail, and overall it presents as a simple yet slightly more premium-looking option that should suit most bedroom settings.

Mattress construction

What’s inside the Onebed Max Mattress?

1. Breathable fabric and mesh cover

The Onebed Max Mattress features a breathable fabric and mesh cover with a zip-off design. This allows for airflow across the surface while also enabling the mattress’s adjustable firmness feature.

Onebed Max Mattress

2. Auralux™ Grid layer

Beneath the cover sits the Auralux™ Grid, a hyper-elastic layer designed to flex under pressure points while maintaining support elsewhere. Its open structure promotes strong airflow, helping to dissipate heat and moisture for a cooler sleep surface, while also delivering a responsive, durable feel.

3. Cooling gel memory foam

This layer combines traditional memory foam with cooling gel infusion to help regulate temperature. It contours to the body for pressure relief while dispersing heat more effectively than standard memory foam, reducing the likelihood of heat build-up.

4. Auralux™ foam

Auralux™ foam is designed to combine the contouring comfort of memory foam with the responsiveness of latex. It provides a balance of pressure relief and bounce, while also maintaining good breathability and durability over time.

5. 5-zone pocket spring support system

At the core of the mattress is a 5-zone pocket spring system, offering targeted support across different areas of the body. Softer zones cushion lighter areas such as the shoulders, while firmer zones support the hips and lower back.

6. Perimeter foam encasement

Surrounding the mattress is a high-density foam encasement that helps create a solid outer structure. This improves edge support and provides a stable “box” for the internal components, enhancing durability and overall support across the full sleep surface.

Firmness adjustment

How does the customisation work?

The Onebed Max Mattress arrives in its default configuration with the Auralux™ Grid layer on top. This is what Onebed classifies as a medium feel, and if this suits your preference, there is no need to make any adjustments.

If you do want to change the feel, the process is quite simple. The top cover can be unzipped, allowing access to the comfort layers. From there, the top layer can be flipped so that the Auralux™ foam layer (the pink layer) sits on top instead. In this configuration, Onebed classifies the feel as medium plush. The cover is then zipped back up, completing the adjustment.

This process is demonstrated in the video below.

https://bedbuyer.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Onebed-Max-Mattress-4.mp4

One of the standout aspects of this design is how easy it is to make the change. The mattress includes a supportive perimeter foam encasement, which helps hold everything neatly in place and makes repositioning the layer straightforward.

Compared to some other adjustable firmness mattresses we’ve tested, this system feels more user-friendly and avoids issues such as misalignment or reduced edge support during setup.

Comfort and support

What’s it like to sleep on the Onebed Max Mattress?

As mentioned above, the Onebed Max Mattress features an adjustable firmness design, allowing users to modify the feel by changing the top comfort layer configuration. Onebed lists these as a medium and a medium-plush option.

In its default setup – with the Auralux™ Grid layer on top – the mattress has a reasonably firm, responsive feel. The grid layer feels somewhat rubbery and bouncy, but still comfortable and supportive.

This firmness option absorbs body weight well and offers a balanced level of pressure relief without excessive sink. We rated this configuration a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

Medium configuration

This setup should suit back and combination sleepers particularly well, as well as those who prefer a slightly firmer, more responsive sleeping surface.

When the top layer is flipped to place the Auralux™ foam layer on top (the pink layer), the feel becomes softer and more traditional. It is less bouncy and more “spongy” in nature, with a bit more contouring and a slightly gentler overall feel.

Comfort remains strong, but the responsiveness is dialled back slightly. We rated this configuration as a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Medium-plush configuration

This option may be better suited to side sleepers or those who prefer a slightly softer, more cushioned feel.

Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the Onebed Max Mattress on the Porto Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

We found the underlying spring system to be strong, stable, and responsive, providing a solid level of support across the mattress. It should be more than adequate for most people, including heavier individuals, and contributes to a secure, well-supported feel overall.

In terms of responsiveness, the Onebed Max Mattress performs well. In the default Auralux™ Grid configuration, there is a slightly higher level of bounce and ease of movement.

Responsiveness: medium configuration

When using the Auralux™ foam layer on top, responsiveness is reduced due to the more cushioning, absorbent feel.

Responsiveness: medium-plush configuration

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

What else should I know?

Overall build quality of the Onebed Max Mattress is impressive for its price point. The materials and finish feel well considered, with neat stitching, a smooth-operating zip, and a large zip pull that makes access to the internal layers easy.

One drawback is the lack of side handles, which are strangely absent from all Onebed mattresses. While not a deal breaker, it does make moving or rotating the mattress a little less convenient. We were unable to find official weight figures, though we would estimate a queen size to be around 50kg, which is fairly standard for this type of construction.

There is a small degree of partner disturbance present, but it is not excessive and should be manageable for most sleepers unless particularly sensitive to movement.

The overall design appears to place a strong emphasis on airflow and temperature regulation.

Edge support is a highlight, thanks to the perimeter foam encasement, which helps create a stable and consistent feel across the entire surface. This design also works particularly well with the adjustable top layer, keeping everything neatly in place and avoiding the softer edges we sometimes see in similar mattresses.

Another small detail worth noting is that the side of the mattress is labelled “pillow side,” indicating the intended orientation of the mattress. This helps identify the top versus the bottom, although it’s not entirely clear whether this is purely for practicality (such as zip placement) or part of the overall design.

The overall design appears to place a strong emphasis on airflow and temperature regulation. During testing, we did not detect any abnormal heat retention, although sleep temperature will always depend on factors such as bedding, room conditions, and individual preferences.

Bed base compatibility

What type of bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Onebed Max Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.

A bed base with solid slats such as the Porto Bed Base, would also be very suitable.

Koala Paddington Bed Base

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.

We don’t recommend that this mattress be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

What happens if I don’t like it?

The Onebed Max Mattress comes with a 125-night trial period, giving customers the opportunity to test the mattress at home and decide whether it suits their preferences.

To be eligible for a return, the mattress must be used for a minimum of 30 nights, allowing time for your body to adjust. If you’re still not satisfied, you can request a return anytime between 30 and 125 nights from the date of purchase.

If a return is approved, Onebed will arrange for the mattress to be collected and typically donated to charity, provided it is in a clean and reasonable condition. Refunds are issued after collection has been completed. It’s worth noting that the trial is limited to two mattresses per household, and certain exclusions apply, including mattresses that have been damaged, soiled, or purchased through referral discounts.

The Onebed Max Mattress is also backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty, covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal domestic use. This includes issues such as significant sagging (over 20mm), foam splitting, or faults with the cover and zipper.

Available sizes

What size options are available?

This mattress is available in 3 sizes (king, queen, and double) so it should accommodate most adult sleeping arrangements.

The graphic below includes all of Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2026. Again please note that the Onebed Max Mattress is available in 3 of these sizes.

Final verdict

Is this the right mattress for you?

The Onebed Max Mattress is an impressive all-round option that combines a thoughtful design with strong overall performance. We particularly like the adjustable firmness feature, which is easy to use and genuinely offers two distinct feels – a more responsive, bouncy surface with the Auralux™ Grid, and a softer, more cushioned feel with the Auralux™ foam layer.

Both configurations deliver a good level of comfort and support, and the perimeter foam encasement works well to keep everything stable and properly aligned. It’s a well-executed design that feels more user-friendly than many other adjustable mattresses we’ve tested.

In terms of value, the Onebed Max Mattress also stacks up very well. At the time of testing, pricing sat at just over $1,000 for a queen, which represents excellent value given the overall build quality and features. When you factor in the 125-night trial period, it’s a compelling option for buyers seeking flexibility, comfort, and strong value in one package.
