Purchase and delivery
As with other mattresses in a box, you can order the Origin Hybrid Mattress online (through the Origin website) and it will be delivered to your door.
Delivery of the Origin Hybrid Mattress is free and it can be delivered to anywhere in Australia. A typical delivery time to major metro areas is 5-6 business days.
Removing the Origin Hybrid Mattress from its packaging should take around 10-15 minutes. As always, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box.
Keep in mind that there will be a substantial amount of packaging (cardboard and plastic) to dispose of. So, some planning may be required along with plenty of bin space.
As per our standard testing process, we gave the mattress 24 hours to decompress before we conducted our testing.
The Origin Hybrid Mattress presents with a simple, modern appearance. It sits 27cm high which is within the normal range for an innerspring mattress. The mattress uses a white and grey colour theme as well a product label on the side.
Along with the mattress, the box includes an information booklet.
Mattress construction
As we mentioned above, the Origin Hybrid Mattress is an innerspring mattress and contains a number of comfort materials.
1. Natural Breeze Tencel™
The top cover of this mattress consists of a luxurious fabric, made with sustainably-sourced wood pulp. It has a soft, silky texture and is cool to the touch.
2. Plush Australian Wool
Sitting under the top fabric cover is a layer of locally-made wool. This wool provides extreme softness and natural moisture-wicking properties.
3. Bamboo-Infused Memory Foam
This layer of memory foam is specially infused with bamboo particles. This foam also contains open-cell technology and provides support and cooling.
4. Proprietary HexaGrid™
Origin’s proprietary HexaGrid™ layer is a specialised blend of polymers and cooling gels. This material has been engineered with specific textures to maximise support and breathability.
5. Motion-Isolation High Density Foam
The final layer in the top comfort section is a deep foam layer that focuses on stability and motion-isolation. This aims to minimise partner disturbance by restless partners.
6. 7-Zone Antigravity Springs
The main support structure of the Origin Hybrid Mattress is a 7-zone spring system. This unit is firm enough to provide support in the deeper layers of the mattress, but flexible enough to provide pressure relief for high pressure areas such as the shoulders and hips.
To ensure longevity, they’ve been made with titanium used in the aerospace industry!
7. D-2 Edge Support
To hold all of the mattress layers together, Origin uses a high-density Foam that is twice as dense as typical foam. This means you can sit comfortably on the edge of your bed without major sagging.
Comfort and support
The Natural Breeze Tencel™ cover feels soft, smooth, and may have the potential to minimise heat during sleep.
This top cover is a little uneven due to the stitching pattern but with sheets and/or a mattress protector, this shouldn’t be too noticeable.
The comfort layers combine to produce a dense, spongy feel. The comfort section itself seems to be somewhat seperate from the spring system with no obvious cohesion.
There is a sense of hardness to the top layer but the mattress still offers reasonable pressure relief.
This mattress will likely suit most back sleepers but it may also suit side sleepers and stomach sleepers. Understandably though, this suitability will vary between individuals.
When it comes to a specific firmness rating, all of our reviewers agreed that this mattress has a firm feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 8 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Firmness rating
Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Origin Hybrid Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
The 7-Zone Antigravity Springs on this mattress feel fairly strong and should provide good back support for most people. We certainly didn’t detect any sagging or dipping.
Based on the quality of these springs, we would expect this mattress to accommodate people of most sizes. A single and king single Origin Hybrid Mattress can hold up to 100kg of total weight whilst a double mattress can accommodate up to 200kgs.
A queen and king size can accommodate up to 240kgs.
The Origin Hybrid Mattress responds fairly well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Responsiveness
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality of the Origin Hybrid Mattress is respectable in context of its price.
The mattress sits a little lower (27cm) than many of its competitors – many other bed in a box options sit over 30 cm high. The D-2 Edge Support foam does help with edge support, even though it is not is not outstanding. With that said, it is still within normal limits for an innerspring mattress at this price point.
Origin omitted side handles from its original design, but this current version includes two, vertically positioned handles on each side. These handles aren’t fancy but they should make it much easier to carry, transport, and rotate the mattress.
It’s worth noting here that the Origin Hybrid Mattress holds both CertiPUR-US® and OEKO-TEX® certifications. These certifications indicate that the foams and fabrics have been tested for harmful substances, and are safe for babies and toddlers.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Origin Hybrid Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.
We don’t recommend the Origin Hybrid Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may cause damage to the mattress components. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
The Origin Hybrid Mattress comes with a 120 night trial period, which is slightly superior to a typical trial period in the online mattress market.
This trial period means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied (conditions do apply).
This mattress also comes with a 15 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This warranty duration is also superior in comparison to the warranties of similarly priced products.
Available sizes
This mattress is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single) so it should accommodate most adult sleeping arrangements.
Here are Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2025.
Final verdict
The Origin Hybrid Mattress is a serviceable mattress with an affordable price tag. Its firm, supportive feel still has adequate comfort while its non-toxic certifications are noteworthy.

Materials
1. Natural Breeze Tencel™
A luxurious fabric made with sustainably-sourced wood pulp. It has a soft butter texture that feels like silk against your skin, and is incredibly cooling to the touch.
2. Plush Australian Wool
We source locally-made wool because it not only provides extreme softness and natural moisture-wicking properties, but because it’s important to support local producers.
3. Bamboo-Infused Memory Foam
We improved traditional Memory Foam by infusing it with bamboo particles. This open-cell technology has the benefit of providing the support of memory foam, and the cooling factor of bamboo.
4. Proprietary HexaGrid™
We used a specialized blend of polymers and cooling gels, and engineered the specific textures on our Hexagrid™ layer to maximize the support and breathability for all our mattresses.
5. Motion-Isolation High Density Foam
Our deepest foam layer focuses on providing added stability and motion-isolation, to ensure you get an undisturbed sleep through the night
6. 7-Zone Antigravity Springs
We call them Antigravity because they are firm enough to provide support in the deeper layers of the mattress, but flexible enough for relief of major problem zones of discomfort, such as the head, neck, shoulders, back and legs.
To make sure they provide long lasting comfort, we’ve made them with titanium used in the aerospace industry!
7. D-2 Edge Support
To hold all the mattress layers together, we use a High-Density Foam that is twice as dense as the industry’s average. This means you can sit comfortably on the edge of your bed without experiencing that dreaded mattress sag.
These mattress materials have been independently-tested in third party labs and are certified by OEKO-TEX® (a safeguard against harmful substances) and CertiPUR-US®.
All our products are made “without mercury, lead and heavy metals, ozone depleters, formaldehyde, VOCs, phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission”.
