The Emma Luxe Mattress is a serviceable, innerspring mattress that forms part of Emma’s bedding range. Other than its outer cover, this mattress is practically identical to the Emma Luxe Plus Mattress.

Purchase and delivery

As with other mattresses in a box products, you can order the Emma Luxe Mattress online (through the Emma website), and it will be delivered to your door.

Delivery of the Emma Luxe Mattress is free and it can be delivered to anywhere in Australia. A normal delivery time is anywhere from 0-7 days. For more details about delivery, see our Delivery information section further down.

Removing the Emma Luxe Mattress from its packaging should take around 10-15 minutes. As always, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box.

Keep in mind that there will be a substantial amount of packaging (cardboard and plastic) to dispose of. So, some planning may be required along with a fair bit of bin space.

As per our standard testing process, we gave the mattress 24 hours to decompress before we conducted our testing.

In terms of pure aesthetics, the Emma Luxe Mattress has a simple but modern style. It sits 27cm high and uses a grey and white colour theme.

The mattress has an orange coloured brand name label on the side. The brand label on the zip puller is also a fine example of Emma’s attention to detail.

Mattress construction

As we touched on above, the Emma Luxe Mattress is an innerspring mattress with a number of foam components.

1. Emma UltraDry™ cover

This cover contains soft and breathable fibres. The cover is also completely removable, making it easy to wash.

2. ThermoSync® foam layer

This foam layer is infused with NanoCarbon™ particles.

These particles helps to absorb body heat and redistribute evenly throughout the mattress. This may help to maintain a constant body temperature and increase sleep quality.

3. Open-pored Aerofoam layer

This innovative, open-pored Aerofoam layer gives a soft, velvety feel that adapts to the shape of your body. In doing so, this provides pressure relief to sensitive areas.

This foam layer may also enhance airflow and absorb moisture, helping to keep your body cool and dry.

4. MemoryAdapt Foam layer

This MemoryAdapt Foam has been added to help you find (and stay in) your favourite sleep position.

This foam is designed to mould to your body’s unique curves by offering finely tuned pressure distribution. The foam also creates pathways for airflow, whilst retaining the classic comfort of memory foam.

5. SupportBase foam layer

The final foam layer that sits just above the spring system, is a durable SupportBase foam. This helps to increase support without any dipping.

6. Infinity spring system

The main support system of the Emma Luxe Plus Mattress is a spring system that uses Infinity springs. These springs feature advanced breathability and pressure relief for extra comfort and support.

This spring system should also help to extend the lifespan of your mattress.

7. UltraDry® cover

This fabric surrounds the side and base of the mattress.

The bottom of this UltraDry® cover is made of an anti-slip fabric to bring extra stability to your nights.

Comfort and support

The Emma UltraDry™ cover is characteristic of most other Emma mattresses we have tested. It feels soft and breathable, so it may help to regulate sleep temperature.

In terms of feel, the Emma Luxe Mattress is best described as foamy and spongy. In a side lying position, the top comfort layer seems to feel firm through the shoulder but strangely we noticed more softness through the hips.

It doesn’t absorb body weight as evenly as some other mattresses we have tested, but nevertheless, it offers a reasonable level of comfort.

This mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers), but understandably its suitability may vary between individuals.

When it comes to a specific firmness rating, all of our reviewers agreed that this mattress has a medium feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 6 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the Emma Luxe Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

This mattress should offer reliable spinal support for most people. Based on our testing, this mattress should accommodate people of most sizes.

With that said, for those who weigh over 100kgs, we would recommend a mattress with a more heavy duty spring system such as the Yinahla Posture Gel.

The Emma Luxe Mattress responds very well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness as optimal. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be much trouble.

Responsiveness

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

The build quality of the Emma Luxe Mattress is respectable. The quality of the foams and fabrics is decent, as is the quality of the stitching and finishings.

The zip mechanism is large and the zipper was smooth and easy to use. The ‘anti-slip’ fabric seemed to be effective and should prevent any sliding or slipping of the mattress on your bed base.

The Emma Luxe Mattress should suit all sleeping positions.

Even though the Emma Luxe is an innerspring mattresses, this mattress seems to isolate motion quite well. So, a restless partner shouldn’t cause too much disruption.

With that said, motion transfer may vary. A larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.

As with all other Emma mattresses, the Emma Luxe Mattress comes with side handles. These handles are positioned vertically and are easy to use. Side handles will always make moving or transporting a mattress easier.

Edge support is certainly not outstanding, but the mattress perimeter should maintain its integrity during sleep and most sitting activities.

It’s worth noting here that individual layer of the Emma Luxe Mattress complies with the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. This certification reflects that this mattress has been tested for harmful substances and is safe for babies and toddlers.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Emma Luxe Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.

A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.

Koala Paddington Bed Base

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.

We don’t recommend the Emma Luxe Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may cause damage to the mattress components. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

The Emma Luxe Mattress comes with a 150 night trial period, which is superior to a typical trial period in the online mattress market.

This trial period means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied (conditions do apply).

This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is a typical warranty period in context of similarly priced competitors.

This mattress is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single) so it should accommodate most adult sleeping arrangements.

Final verdict

The Emma Luxe Mattress is an appealing mattress but in some ways is rather unremarkable. Nevertheless, it should offer satisfactory levels of comfort and support for most people.

After your new Emma Mattress is vacuum-packed and rolled into a compact box, it is ready to be shipped to you.

Shipping and return costs are free.

Please note however, if your collection address lies outside our normal delivery area then we might ask for your help to deliver your mattress to the nearest drop off location after all other options have been exhausted.

How does the delivery process work?

Orders placed before 10 am on weekdays are eligible for same-day delivery (between 2-6 pm) in the metro areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. Otherwise you will receive your mattress within 1-3 business days depending on your proximity to our warehouses..

For metro orders, a tracking link is sent to you via SMS on the day of your delivery so that you can live track the progress of the driver.

For regional deliveries, an email will be sent that will allow you to track the progress of your delivery throughout each step.

How long does the delivery take?
