Aesthetics and Presentation
What does it look like in real life?
The Art & Science Highgrove mattress presents with a refined and premium aesthetic, combining a modern neutral colour palette with clean tailoring and subtle detailing. The light grey side panels pair nicely with the crisp white sleep surface, giving the mattress an elegant hotel-style appearance that should suit a wide variety of bedroom settings.
Presentation and finishing quality are impressive overall, with neatly stitched quilting, well-integrated edge detailing, and a substantial profile that reinforces the premium positioning of this mattress. Most comfort options sit at approximately 38cm high, giving the mattress a luxurious and substantial presence on the bed.
Mattress construction
What’s inside the Art & Science Highgrove?
The Art & Science Highgrove mattress uses a sophisticated multi-layer design that combines premium comfort materials with an advanced dual-spring support system.
1. Top Fabric
The sleep surface features a premium knit fabric blend consisting of 5% luxury cashmere wool, 40% ChillTex™, and 55% polyester knit with Actifresh treatment. This cover feels soft and smooth to the touch while also helping to regulate temperature and maintain freshness throughout the night.
2. Quilting Layer
The quilting layers combine cooling cashmere knit fabric with plush comfort foams to create a softer and more inviting initial feel. These upper layers provide gentle cushioning and help the mattress feel comfortable from the very first touch.

3. ChillTex™ Layer
The ChillTex™ cooling surface is designed to promote airflow and assist with temperature regulation. According to Art & Science, this layer helps dissipate heat and creates a cooler sleeping environment, while the cashmere infusion adds a softer and more luxurious feel.
4. EcoFlex™ Layer
The EcoFlex™ layer uses a plant-based comfort foam that aims to provide responsive support and contouring without excessive sinkage. This layer contributes to pressure relief while maintaining a balanced comfort feel across the mattress surface.
5. CharCool™ Latex Layer
The CharCool™ layer consists of bamboo charcoal-infused latex that is designed to improve airflow and help draw heat away from the body. Latex is naturally responsive and breathable, and this layer adds a slightly buoyant feel while assisting with temperature regulation and freshness.
6. 10-Zone Dual Pocket Spring System
At the core of the mattress is the advanced 10-Zone Dual Pocket Spring system featuring two independent layers of zoned pocket springs along with micro coils.
This sophisticated support system is designed to contour more effectively to different parts of the body while also delivering deeper support underneath. The dual-layer design aims to improve spinal alignment, minimise partner disturbance, and provide greater long-term durability compared to traditional single-layer spring systems.
7. Edge Support
The perimeter of the mattress is reinforced with an 8.5cm high-density foam edge support system. This creates a more stable and supportive sleep surface right to the edge of the mattress, helping to reduce roll-off and improve overall structural stability.
Comfort and support
What’s it like to sleep on the Art & Science Highgrove?
The Art & Science Highgrove mattress is available in four comfort options – Extra Firm, Firm Support, Balanced Comfort, and Extra Comfort – making it suitable for a wide range of sleepers and comfort preferences. Across all models, the ChillTex™ cashmere knit cover provides a soft, breathable, and noticeably cool-to-the-touch feel that enhances the overall sleeping experience.
The Extra Firm option is the firmest model in the range, offering a very solid and supportive sleep surface with minimal cushioning.
We rated this model at 9 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). It is best suited to those who enjoy a distinctly firm feel, particularly back sleepers, although many people may find it firmer than they are accustomed to.
Extra firm version

The Firm Support model retains a supportive overall feel but introduces a little more cushioning and pressure relief. There is noticeably more give than the Extra Firm version, allowing the mattress to absorb body weight more effectively while still maintaining good support.
We rated this option at 7.5/10 on the firmness scale.
Firm version

Moving into the softer options, the Balanced Comfort model delivers a more traditional medium feel. It offers increased pressure relief and contouring around the shoulders and hips while still maintaining a supportive underlying feel.
We rated this comfort option at 5.5/10 on the firmness scale.
Medium version

The softest model in the range is the Extra Comfort option. This version features deeper comfort layers that create a more plush and cushioned sleeping experience, with greater sink-in comfort and pressure relief.
Side sleepers and those who enjoy a softer mattress are likely to appreciate this feel. We rated the Extra Comfort model at 3.5/10 on the firmness scale.
Plush version

Please note that our firmness ratings are intended as a guide only and do not necessarily relate directly to comfort. Mattresses with the same firmness rating can feel quite different depending on materials and construction.
Furthermore, these ratings are based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and may differ from firmness ratings provided by manufacturers. Mattress firmness and performance can also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
Because the Art & Science Highgrove range spans four distinct comfort options, spinal support will vary somewhat between models.
That said, when the correct comfort level is selected to suit the sleeper’s body type and sleeping position, back support is very good. The advanced 10-Zone Dual Pocket Spring system provides a solid and stable foundation that helps maintain healthy spinal alignment throughout the night.
As with most mattresses available in multiple comfort options, selecting the appropriate firmness is important. Choosing a model that is too soft or too firm for your individual needs may reduce both comfort and support.
The Art & Science Highgrove offers good overall responsiveness, although its feel will vary depending on the comfort option selected. The dual spring design provides a degree of bounce and ease of movement, while the comfort layers help absorb pressure and body weight.
We found the mattress to feel solid, stable, and reasonably responsive, although not quite as springy or quick to react as some other innerspring mattresses we have tested.
As expected, the firmer models feel more responsive and easier to move around on, while the softer versions allow greater sink-in comfort and therefore feel slightly slower to respond. Overall, responsiveness is comfortably within the ideal range for most sleepers.
Responsiveness

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
What else should I know?
The Art & Science Highgrove is a well-executed mattress with a premium overall presentation. Construction quality is impressive throughout, with neat stitching, quality materials, and a finish that feels consistent with the mattress’s premium positioning.
Most comfort options stand at approximately 38cm high, giving the mattress a substantial profile and a strong visual presence on the bed.
All versions feature two vertically positioned side handles, which assist with rotating and repositioning the mattress. Edge support is very good across the entire range thanks to the reinforced foam encasement, although the firmer models naturally offer the most solid edge feel.
Partner disturbance is also minimal, with the dual spring system doing a good job of isolating movement and reducing sleep disruption between partners. As always, the amount of movement felt will vary depending on mattress size and the sleepers using it.
Art & Science advises that its foams are CertiPUR-US® certified, meaning they are manufactured without harmful chemicals and meet recognised safety, environmental, and performance standards.
Partner disturbance is also minimal, with the dual spring system doing a good job of isolating movement and reducing sleep disruption between partners.
The mattress also incorporates Sanitised Acti-Fresh® antimicrobial protection, which is designed to help maintain freshness and assist with odour control over time.

Bed base compatibility
What type of bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend this mattress to be used with a bed base with solid slats (not flexible/posture slats), such as the Porto Bed Base.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.
Furthermore, we do not recommend this mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Comfort guarantee and warranty
What after-sale security do I have?
The Art & Science Highgrove Mattress comes with a 100 Night Sleep Promise, allowing customers to exchange the mattress if they are not satisfied with the comfort level within 100 nights of delivery. A minimum 40-night adjustment period is required, and the mattress must remain clean and protected with a mattress protector purchased at the same time.
A $100 changeover fee applies for freight and handling, and exchanges are limited to one per purchase.
The Art & Science Highgrove Mattress is also backed by a 10-year warranty, with claims handled directly through Sleeping Giant in accordance with Australian Consumer Law.
The warranty covers manufacturing defects, although exclusions apply for misuse, staining, improper support foundations, commercial use, and general wear and tear.
