The Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro is a serviceable, innerspring mattress that holds multiple non-toxic certifications.

This mattress forms the flagship model in Newentor’s product range that also includes the Newentor Hybrid Mattress and the Newentor Hesperis Mattress.

Purchase and delivery

As with other mattress in a box products, you can order the Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro online (through the Newentor website), and it will be delivered to your door.

Delivery of the Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro is free and the mattress can be delivered to almost anywhere in Australia. Typical delivery times range from 2-7 business days.

The box arrived in good condition but unlike the packaging of many other beds in a box, this box didn’t contain wheels. This made it harder to move around.

On a positive note though, the box contained a nice product information booklet and a plastic cutter to assist with the unpacking process.

Removing the Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro from its packaging will take around 10 minutes. As always, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box.

As per our standard testing process, we gave the mattress 48 hours to decompress before we conducted our testing.

In terms of aesthetics, the Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro presents with a modern, edgy vibe. It uses a grey and navy blue colour theme, and its brand name label gives it a nice touch.

Mattress construction

The Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro contains a number of components.

1. Carbon Flow™

The top cover of the mattress is an antibacterial and breathable charcoal fibre cover.

This cover helps to protect against bacteria, releases moisture and helps your body breathe to maintain a long term skin health.

2. Gel-Visco Flow™ Memory Foam

This memory foam layer includes an antibacterial cotton pad with soft but supportive memory foam.

This memory foam is CertiPUR-US® certified, and adapts to body temperature, storing and releasing heat, keeping you cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

3. PCM Support Flow™

This foam layer is a pressure relieving high-elasticity foam.

4. 1.0mm Micro Coil Pocket Springs

To enhance body contouring and ventilation, the top comfort layer contains pressure relieving adaptive Micro Coil Pocket Springs.

5. Adaptive 7 Zone Pocket Springs

This mattress contains individually pocketed coils. These coils have excellent resilience and are designed for optimal body and spinal support as well as edge support.

6. Newentor Non-Slip Side and Base™

The grippy side and back material prevents the mattress from moving and provides an effective guarantee for your sleep.

Comfort and support

The top cover feels soft and breathable and should help with cooling and ventilation.

The remaining comfort layers form a traditional pillow top design and give a comfortable, foamy feel. This layer absorbs body weight nicely but we did detect some ‘crackling’ sounds during normal sleep movements. We assume that this is the sound of the micro springs as they compress and decompress.

In any case, the mattress has a good level of comfort and should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers). Understandably though, this suitability may vary between individuals.

In terms of firmness, all of our reviewers agreed that this mattress has a comfortable, medium feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 6 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.

The 7 zone pocket spring system feels reasonably stable and robust, but perhaps lacking the refinement of some of its similarly priced competitors.

Nevertheless, the spring system should should provide more than adequate back support for most, and should accommodate people of all sizes.

The Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro responds very well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness as optimal. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) should not be any trouble.

Responsiveness

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

The build quality of the Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro is not outstanding, but still very respectable. The quality of the stitching and finishings appear to be of a good standard and it’s hard to fault too much in context of price.

With that said, there is a slight sense with this mattress of feeling a bit cheap. Although there is some padding around the sides of the mattress, you can still feel the springs which is often an indicator of overall quality and attention to detail.

We tested partner disturbance thoroughly and on this mattress, motion transfer is present but not significant. So, a restless partner shouldn’t cause too many problems.

With that said, motion transfer may vary. A larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.

As noted above, the main pocket spring system contains firmer springs around the edge to help improve edge support. We weren’t blown away by edge support strength, but users should be able to use the entire surface of the mattress, without fear of rolling off a flimsy edge.

Disappointingly, the Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro does not contain side handles. Side handles will always make moving or transporting a mattress easier, so this was a small let down considering the price point of this product.

On the plus side, the components of the Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro are well certified as non-toxic. All fabrics and foams are certified with OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and CertiPUR-US®. Newentor also uses antibacterial foams, creating a hypoallergenic comfort layer.

The Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro has a fairly typical height of 28cm so standard sized sheets should fit well.

At the time of this review, Newentor also included a free Waterproof Tencel Mattress Protector with each order.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.

A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.

Koala Paddington Bed Base

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.

The Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro is not designed to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is a typical warranty period in context of similarly priced competitors.

This mattress is available in 2 sizes (king and queen) so it should accommodate most adult sleeping arrangements.

Final verdict

The Newentor Hybrid Mattress Pro is a nice mattress overall and should provide plenty of comfort and support for most people.

It lacks a little sophistication that you might expect at this price point, but its non-toxic certifications and free mattress protector still give it plenty of appeal.
