The Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress is a rather unique mattress with a double sided design. This means that the mattress can be flipped over to produce at least different two firmness options.
This mattress forms the flagship model in Sleeping Puppy’s range that also includes the Sleeping Puppy Classic Mattress.

Purchase and delivery
As with other mattress in a box products, you can order the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress online (through the Sleeping Puppy website), and it will be delivered to your door.
Delivery of the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress is free and the mattress can be delivered to almost anywhere in Australia. Sleeping Puppy offers an impressive ‘next-day delivery’ to major metro areas.
You can also select your preferred delivery date (up to three months in advance) during the checkout process, if you live in a metro area.

The box arrived in good condition and was noticeably heavy. With that said, the box does have handles and wheels to make transport a bit easier. The wheels can be removed to allow for recycling of the cardboard box.
The top handle is strong, but we had some trouble removing it to allow us to pull out the mattress. So, we needed to cut the handle out from the box which was a bit of a pain. Perhaps this is a small design detail that could be improved.
Inside the box, a plastic cutter is thoughtfully attached at the top of the box. The mattress comes packaged with plastic wrapping and also a nice carry bag (pictured above).
Removing the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress from its packaging will take around 10-15 minutes. As always, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box.
As per our standard testing process, we gave the mattress 48 hours to decompress before we conducted our testing.
In terms of aesthetics, the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress presents with a luxurious, regal vibe. It uses a green, gold, and white colour theme, and its brand name label gives it a nice touch.
Mattress construction
The Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress is a rather sophisticated mattress that contains has a number of components.
Below is a summary of its construction from the plush side, down to the firm side.
1. TENCEL Fabric Cover
On the soft of this mattress is a 430 grams/m2 TENCEL fabric sourced from Belgium’s BekaertDeslee, the world’s premier mattress fabric manufacturer.
This fabric certified as non-toxic by OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and is also quilted for extra comfort.
2. Luxury Comfort Layers
Sitting underneath the TENCEL cover are two two soft (plush) comfort layers.
The first layer features ZR foam, a cutting-edge, cloud-like soft material that’s breathable, contours to your body, never sags or dips, and is eco-friendly.
The second layer is cool gel-infused memory foam, designed to offer the finest pressure relief while keeping you comfortably cool.
3. Transition Layer
Beneath the two soft comfort layers, is a high-density Dynamic foam transition layer.
This layer is designed to provide superior spinal support as well as pressure relief. Its responsive nature provides that delightful bouncy feel and makes turning during the night effortless.
4. Pocket Spring System
The main support structure of this mattress is a twice-tempered, reinforced steel pocket spring system. This is aimed at delivering optimal support tailored to each area of your body.
5. Cloud-Like Comfort Topper
The firm side includes a removable topper that can be machine washed. As with the cover on the soft side, this boasts the durable fabric from BekaertDeslee. It, too, carries the esteemed OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification.
6. Unique Edge Support
The foam box design around the mattress perimeter helps to improve edge support. This is should help you to enjoy exceptional comfort no matter where you rest on the bed.
How does the customisation work?
As well as a double sided design (where you can choose from a soft or firm option), the soft side allows you to customise the mattress even further by unzipping the top cover and rearranging the different foam layers.
We didn’t notice a huge difference in comfort or firmness but this feature still enhances the personalisation/customisation of this mattress.
Comfort and support
The soft side has a foamy, soft feel with an abundance of pressure relief.
With that said, the top cover feels a bit stiff and rigid – not stretchy like other mattress covers we have tested. As result, the top comfort layer doesn’t seem to absorb body weight evenly and we noticed a ‘dipping feel’.
This soft side would likely suit side sleepers rather than back sleepers, and stomach sleepers. Understandably though, this suitability may vary between individuals.
In terms of firmness, all of our reviewers agreed that this soft side did indeed have a soft feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 3.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Soft Side
Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
As you would expect, the firm side is firmer, but again we found the comfort layer to be stiff and rigid. In a similar way to the soft side, there is a feeling of unevenness that isn’t as pleasant to sleep on as other mattresses that we have tested.
This firm configuration should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers), but again its suitability may vary between individuals.
All of our reviewers agreed that the firm side had a medium-firm feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 6.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Firm Side
The spring system should offer good spinal support in theory, but the foam layers on each side may create some unevenness compromising back support.
With that said, the mattress has a weight capacity of 400kgs so it should also accommodate people of all sizes.
The thick foam layers in the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress (especially on the soft side) mean that this mattress doesn’t have the natural bounce and responsiveness of some innerspring mattresses. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) may be easier on other mattresses.
Responsiveness
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
Regardless of comfort and support, the build quality of the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress is of a good standard. The quality of the stitching and finishings appear sound and there is evidence of attention to detail in its design.
The zip mechanism is strong and smooth, making it easy to remove and flip the foam layers (on the soft side). The foam layers themselves have a netted cover to (presumably) prevent the foam layers from sticking together.
Like with all mattresses, we tested partner disturbance thoroughly and to be blunt, this mattress doesn’t isolate movement well. Our best guess is because of the double sided design, the base section of the mattress is not stable – the bottom of the mattress is essentially a foam layer.
With that said, motion transfer may vary. A larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.
Even though the mattress design has an edge support foam, the edges are not particular firm and seem to dip during normal sitting. This may also be linked to the double sided design and the lack of stability at the bottom of the mattress.
On a positive note, the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress has easy to use side handles that are vertically positioned. Side handles will always make moving or transporting a mattress easier.
The components of the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress are well certified as non-toxic. As mentioned earlier, the cover features an OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified BekaertDeslee fabric that is free from harmful substances. Additionally, all foams used in this mattress are certified by CertiPUR-US.
The Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress has a high profile height of 40cm so we would recommend using deep fitting sheets such as the Koala Deep Fit Sheets or the Ecoy Cooling Bamboo Sheets.
It’s also worth noting that the non-quilted cover (firm side) is removable and machine washable on a cold, gentle cycle. Tumble drying is not recommended.
The quilted cover for Sleeping Puppy Luxury (soft side) can be spot cleaned.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
The Sleeping Puppy Luxury Mattress comes with a 101 night trial period, which is a typical trial period in the online mattress market. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied.
It’s worth mentioning that there is a minimum 30 day adjustment period before you can request a return of Sleeping Puppy mattresses.
This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is a typical warranty period in context of similarly priced competitors.

You may qualify for an ATL (authority to leave), if you can’t be home for your order, but please note that this usually applies to ground-level homes with secure places, not apartment buildings.
