Purchase and delivery
As with other mattress in a box products, the Wowbeds Duo Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the Wowbeds website) and will be delivered to your door in a compact box.
As noted above, this mattress can be ordered in a firm, medium-firm, or medium feel, so there should be a suitable firmness level for most people. For the purpose of this review, we tested all 3 versions to provide useful comparisons between each option.
It’s worth noting here that each mattress comes with a free pillow included in the box.
Wowbeds offer free delivery to most places in Australia. Certain remote areas will involve an additional charge, but this amount will be quoted at checkout (see further details in our ‘Delivery information’ section further down).
Each mattress was easy to remove from its packaging, and as usual, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box. Unpacking the Wowbeds Duo Mattresses should only take about 10 minutes, and we allowed them decompress for 48 hours before testing.
Aesthetically, the Wowbeds Duo Mattress presents well with a simple, modern design. It uses a grey and white colour theme, and its brand name label gives it a nice touch.
The mattress sits 32cm high. This is slightly above average height for an innerspring mattress, but still well within normal limits.
Mattress construction
The top cover of this mattress is made of an eco-friendly bamboo fabric. This feels soft, smooth, and contains natural, antibacterial properties.
This top cover also includes a Ventex Mesh border to enhance airflow through the top of the mattress.
This cover sits over a rather fancy comfort layer that includes a layer of convoluted foam, a layer of cooling gel memory foam, a layer of micro pocket springs, and an additional layer of comfort foam.
Sitting below this comfort layer is a 7 zone pocket spring system. This support system contains 800 individual steel springs with a firmer row of springs around the edge of the mattress (for enhanced edge support).
The Wowbeds Duo Mattress also features special box edge supports, to help enhance the strength of the mattress perimeter. This box edge is covered with a border fabric, made of bamboo fibres.
Comfort and support
Not surprisingly, the firm version of the Wowbeds Duo Mattress feels noticeably firm and supportive. Despite the firm feel, it is still comfortable and absorbs body weight smoothly.
The mattress should suit most back sleepers, but it may also suit side sleepers and stomach sleepers. Understandably though, this suitability will vary between individuals.
Our team rated the firm version of the Wowbeds Duo Mattress as an 8 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Firm Version
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Wowbeds Duo Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
The medium-firm version feels similar to the firm version, only a touch softer. It should suit all sleeping positions but again this may vary between individuals.
We rated the medium-firm version as a 7.5 / 10 on the firmness scale. Again, our firmness ratings are just a guide.
Medium-Firm Version
As you would expect, the medium version of the Wowbeds Duo Mattress has more comfort and pressure relief (than the firm and medium-firm options). It absorbs body weight smoothly and feels foamy and spongy.
This medium version should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but again, this suitability will vary between individuals. We rated the medium version as a 6.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (where 10 is the firmest).
Medium Version
The 7 zone pocket spring system feels stable yet responsive, and should provide excellent back support. It should also accommodate people of all sizes.
The different zones of the spring system were noticeable, so you may be able to feel a slight difference in spring firmness throughout the mattress.
The mattress isolates movement quite well, so partner disturbance is minimal. It’s worth noting though that larger mattresses (e.g. king size) usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size (and weight) of the occupants of the bed.
The Wowbeds Duo Mattress responds nicely to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality and craftsmanship of the Wowbeds Duo Mattress is commendable. The stitching and finishings are of a high standard, and the foams and fabrics feel durable.
The addition of side handles is a notable feature on this mattress, but they are a little small and may only allow grip with several fingers. Nevertheless, the side handles will make it easier to rotate and transport the mattress.
Edge support is good in the medium-firm and firm options, whereas it tends to feel a bit softer in the medium version. This is to be expected though, as softer mattresses do tend to feel softer on the edges.
The fabrics and foams used in the Wowbeds Duo Mattress are well certified as non-toxic by CertiPUR-US® and OEKO-TEX, two of the world’s leading authorities in foam and fabric testing.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Wowbeds Duo Mattress to be used with a bed base with rigid slats (not flexible/posture slats) with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart.
A base that we would recommend to be used with the Wowbeds Duo Mattress is the Chiropedic Bed Base.
We do not recommend the Wowbeds Duo Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may cause damage to the mattress. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty. Furthermore, mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
The Wowbeds Duo Mattress comes with a 120 night trial period. This is slightly superior to a typical trial period offering of many other beds in a box. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied. Naturally, conditions do apply.
This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is also a typical warranty period of similarly priced products.

The Wowbeds Duo Mattress is available in 5 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, and single size) which should suit most sleeping arrangements.
