Some Beds & Dreams stores are located outside standard metropolitan delivery zones, including Helensvale (QLD), Maroochydore (QLD), Pakenham (VIC), and West Gosford (NSW). Aesthetics and Presentation
What does it look like in real life?
The Master Tailor Solitaire Mattress has a striking, luxurious appearance that certainly matches its premium positioning. Its distinctive gold side panels contrast beautifully with the charcoal upholstery, while burgundy detailing, subtle branding, and a clean white sleep surface give it a sophisticated finish.

At approximately 44cm high, the Solitaire is also an exceptionally tall mattress with a substantial presence on the bed. The overall presentation is impressive, with detailed stitching and beautifully finished side panels helping to reinforce its handcrafted, premium feel.
Mattress construction
What’s inside the Master Tailor Solitaire Mattress?
The Master Tailor Solitaire uses a sophisticated combination of premium comfort materials and two separate pocket spring systems. Its construction includes the following layers and technologies:
1. Australian Made Knit Fabric with Silk
The sleep surface uses a premium Australian-made knitted fabric enriched with natural silk fibres. It feels soft and refined to touch, while also providing a breathable and luxurious sleeping surface.

2. Hygroflex & Quiltec™ Blend
Underneath the cover is a Hygroflex & Quiltec™ blend. This hybrid comfort material is designed to provide pressure relief while reducing frictional stress against the skin.
3. Italian Platinum Next Technology
The Solitaire also incorporates Italian Platinum Next Technology, a premium comfort material designed to enhance pressure relief and provide controlled body contouring.
4. Premium Memory Foam & High Density Comfort Layer
Premium high-density memory foam provides additional cushioning and body contouring, while a high-density comfort layer adds resilience and helps maintain the mattress’s structure over time.
5. DreamAir Micro Pocket Coil System
A layer of low-profile DreamAir micro pocket coils provides responsive body contouring and additional support. The open nature of this spring layer also helps increase airflow through the mattress, assisting with temperature regulation.
6. German Herkules Titanium Alloy 7 Zone Pocket Coil System
The main support system is Comfort Sleep’s German Herkules Titanium Alloy 7 Zone Pocket Coil System. Made using high-grade titanium alloy wire, this zoned spring system is designed to provide targeted support across different areas of the body, along with excellent strength and durability.
7. EdgeBoost™ Foam Boxed Wall
Surrounding the mattress is an EdgeBoost™ Foam Boxed Wall. This firm foam encasement reinforces the perimeter of the mattress, helping to improve edge stability, maximise the usable sleep surface, and maintain its shape over time.
Comfort and support
What’s it like to sleep on the Master Tailor Solitaire Mattress?
The Master Tailor Solitaire is available in firm, medium, and plush comfort options. One thing that stood out during our testing was just how deep and luxurious the comfort layers feel across the entire range. Even the firm version offers a generous amount of cushioning and pressure relief.

We rated the firm version at approximately 6.5 / 10 on our firmness scale. This is relatively soft for a mattress labelled as firm, with the thick comfort layers providing plenty of cushioning and smooth pressure absorption.
It should accommodate a wide range of sleeping positions, including side, back, and front sleeping, although suitability will naturally vary between individuals. Of the three options, this would also be our preference for heavier sleepers, who are more likely to benefit from its firmer overall feel.
Firm version

The medium version was also noticeably softer than we expected, rating approximately 4 / 10 on our firmness scale. It has a deeply cushioned feel with plenty of pressure relief, allowing the body to settle comfortably into the upper layers.
This option should appeal particularly to sleepers who enjoy a soft, luxurious feel without moving all the way to the plush version.
Medium version

We rated the plush version at approximately 3 / 10, making it one of the softest mattresses that we have tested. There is significant depth and softness through the comfort layers, allowing the body to sink noticeably into the mattress.
This pronounced cushioning may suit lighter-weight sleepers and those who strongly prefer a soft mattress, but it may be too soft for heavier sleepers or those who prefer a more supportive surface feel.
Plush version

Underneath these substantial comfort layers sits the German Herkules Titanium Alloy 7 Zone Pocket Coil System, which feels solid and stable. However, because the upper comfort layers are so deep, particularly on the medium and plush versions, lighter sleepers may not engage significantly with the underlying spring system.
The Solitaire isn’t especially responsive due to the thickness and softness of its comfort layers. Nevertheless, we still found its responsiveness to sit within an optimal range, with the mattress recovering adequately as you change sleeping positions.
Responsiveness

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
What else should I know?
The Master Tailor Solitaire Mattress demonstrates an exceptional level of build quality and craftsmanship. Comfort Sleep describes the Master Tailor range as handcrafted by its most experienced mattress makers.
Everything from the stitching and upholstery to the overall finish feels beautifully put together, and it would be difficult to find a mattress with a more premium level of presentation.
The mattress includes sturdy side handles, which are particularly useful given the substantial size and weight of the mattress.
At approximately 44cm high, the Solitaire is an exceptionally high-profile mattress. This is worth considering when choosing a bed base, as a tall base combined with this mattress could make the overall sleeping height impractical. You will also need deep-wall or super-queen sheets, as many standard fitted sheets are unlikely to accommodate its depth.
Edge support is very good, helped by the EdgeBoost™ Foam Boxed Wall, which reinforces the perimeter and allows more of the mattress surface to be used. During our testing, edge support was strongest on the firm version and became progressively softer through the medium and plush options.
Partner disturbance is also low, so movement from a restless partner shouldn’t be too disruptive. As you would expect, partner disturbance will generally be less noticeable on the larger sizes, where there is more separation between sleepers.

Bed base compatibility
What type of bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend this mattress to be used with a bed base with solid slats (not flexible/posture slats), such as the Atlantis Bed Base.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.
Furthermore, we do not recommend this mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Warranty
The Master Tailor Solitaire is backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty from Comfort Sleep. This provides long-term coverage against manufacturing defects and reflects the premium materials and high level of craftsmanship used throughout the mattress.

Final verdict
Is the Master Tailor Solitaire right for you?
The Master Tailor Solitaire is an outstanding premium mattress that showcases an exceptional level of craftsmanship and build quality. Its combination of luxurious comfort materials, dual pocket spring system, and beautifully finished construction places it among the most impressive mattresses that we have tested.
This is undoubtedly a soft mattress range, even in the firm version, so it won’t be the best choice for those who prefer a very firm or highly supportive surface feel. However, for sleepers who enjoy deep cushioning, generous pressure relief, and a softer, more luxurious sleeping experience, the Solitaire is exceptional.
The plush version in particular offers an extraordinarily soft feel that won’t suit everyone, but for the right sleeper, there are few mattresses quite like it.
