Purchase and delivery

The Luxara Kids Flip Mattress can be conveniently ordered online through the Luxara website.

Delivery is free and the mattress can be delivered Australia wide. Delivery times are usually between 3-10 working days, but this will depend on your location. For more information on delivery times, see our ‘Delivery information’ section further down.

It’s worth noting that Luxara mattresses are made to order in Australia. You won’t receive old inventory (or compressed, boxed mattresses) that are stored in a warehouse.

Our Luxara Kids Flip Mattress arrived in excellent condition, thanks to two thick layers of plastic wrapping. It also had cardboard pieces on each corner for extra protection during transport.

As mentioned above, the Luxara Kids Flip Mattress doesn’t come compressed in a box, so you won’t need to wait for it to decompress before sleeping on it.

Aesthetically, the Luxara Kids Flip Mattress has clean, rather neutral look. It sits 27cm high and uses a grey and white colour theme.

Mattress construction

The Luxara Kids Flip Mattress is an innerspring mattress with a number of layers in its construction.

1. Natural bamboo cover

The top sleeping surface is made of a naturally breathable, hypoallergenic and antimicrobial bamboo fabric. These bamboo fibres should help to promote a cooler, healthier sleep.

Underneath this top fabric is a layer of Australian wool. Wool is a natural insulator and may help to keep you cool in summer, and warm in winter.

2. Dream comfort foam

Sitting under the top sleep surface is a layer of premium Dunlop Dream Foam. This is added specifically for ages 3-7 for a more gentle sleep surface that ensures your young kids will have plenty of comfort.

3. Plush support foam

A layer of premium Dunlop foam helps to conform to the natural shape of the body providing the ultimate in pressure relief and cloud-like comfort.

Dunlop foams are eco-friendly, highly breathable, superior quality and Australian made. They are also Sensitive Choice® approved asthma friendly, GECA approved and free from nasty chemicals.

4. Felt insulation

A layer of soft premium felt also forms part of the comfort section of this mattress. This is added above the springs to provide extra insulation and comfort.

This layer of felt also protects the foam from being in direct contact with the springs.

5. 5-Zone flex spring support system

The main support structure of this mattress contains 158 springs per square metre. These springs are tempered three times for maximum strength and create the foundation for a durable sleep product.

The high-gauge steel springs are designed in 5 zones to combine targeted pressure relief with optimum support. It also ensures superior breathability and airflow.

These springs also feature double edge side supports that help to strengthen the mattress perimeter.

Comfort and support

As mentioned earlier, the Luxara Kids Flip Mattress comes in 2 firmness options – essentially a firm and a medium feel. To change firmness levels, simply flip the mattress over.

The bamboo fabric on top feels soft, smooth, and breathable. Along with the spring system, this cover should help with sleep temperature regulation.

The medium side (large diamond shaped stitching) has plenty of comfort and pressure relief. It would suit children from 3-7 years of age, but this may vary depending on the individual child and firmness preferences.

This medium side should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but again, its suitability will vary between individuals.

All of our expert reviewers agreed that this side has a comfortable, medium feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 5.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

Medium Side

Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Mattresses with the same firmness level can also feel quite different.

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the Luxara Kids Flip Mattress on the Koala Balmain Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with flat panel slats.

The firm side (smaller diamond shaped stitching) is firmer than the medium side but still has a nice level of comfort. It would likely suit children from 8-12 years of age, but this may vary depending on the individual child.

This side should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but again, its suitability will vary between individuals.

All of our expert reviewers agreed that this side has a medium-firm feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 7 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

Firm Side

The 5-Zone flex spring support system offers good support for children, even if it has a touch of unsteadiness to it. Nevertheless, changing sleep positions is easy as this spring system responds well to normal sleep movements.

To this point, we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

The overall build quality of the Luxara Kids Flip Mattress is very good.

Although you can feel the springs through the side of the mattress, there is still some side padding present.

The side panels do contain side handles, making it easy to rotate or transport the mattress. The handles themselves are strong, and are stitched into the mattress firmly.

Edge support is firm, thanks to the double edge side supports within the spring system. This should allow each children and parents to use the mattress for sitting activities (such as reading).

With a strong edge, children should also be able to utilise the full mattress surface during sleep, without fear of rolling off the edge.

This mattress sits 27cm high which is quite typical of a good quality kids mattress. Any standard size sheets should fit this mattress well.

An excellent kids mattress that should suit the needs of all growing children.

In terms of health and hygiene, the Luxara Platinum Mattress is well certified. The comfort foams are certified by GECA, one of the world’s most trusted and widely recognised eco labels.

The mattress is also approved by Sensitive Choice, which is part of the Asthma Council of Australia. The foams in this mattress are also treated with Ultra-Fresh™ which helps to eliminate viruses and bacteria.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Luxara Kids Flip Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Joey Bed Base.

A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

The Luxara Kids Flip Mattress comes with a 100 night trial period, which is a typical trial period in the online mattress market. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied.

It’s worth mentioning that there is a minimum 30 day adjustment period before you can request a return of the Luxara Kids Flip Mattress.

This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is a typical warranty period in context of similarly priced competitors.
