Hamarvik Review
The Hamarvik uses a combination of foam, soft fillings, and springs in its construction. Its levels of comfort and support are poor, and we wouldn’t recommend it for regular use.
Purchase and delivery
This mattress can be ordered online, and delivery is available Australia-wide (see full delivery information in our ‘Delivery’ section below). It can also be purchased through any of IKEA’s stores across Australia.
Aesthetically, the Hamarvik presents with a simple, clean appearance. It uses a white and beige colour theme along with a brand name label at its base.
Comfort and support
This mattress has a comfort layer that includes a stretch fabric, soft fillings, and polyurethane foam. This does provide some pressure relief, but its comfort level is very basic.
We rated the Hamarvik as an ‘extra-firm’ feel and a 8.5 / 10 on the firmness scale. Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
The support structure used in the Hamarvik is a Bonnell spring system. This feels cheap and flimsy, and may not provide adequate support for many people. It will likely struggle under the weight of larger sized people.
The finer details
In terms of build quality and craftsmanship, the Hamarvik is about average, and reasonable in context of its price. It does come with side handles, and its quality and finishings appear to be of decent quality.
It’s worth noting that partner disturbance is very noticeable, and edge support is poor.
Please note that we do not recommend the Hamarvik to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
Available sizes
The Hamarvik is available in 3 sizes (queen, double, and single) so it should suit most sleeping arrangements. Here are Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2021.
Final verdict
The Hamarvik has an attractive low price, but this mattress lacks the comfort and quality that most people would require on a night to night basis. Its spring system feels unstable and its comfort layers are substandard.

Sometimes the mattress has a noticeable smell when you open the packaging. The smell isn’t harmful or toxic and disappears over time. Airing and vacuuming the mattress helps to eliminate the smell faster.
All of our mattresses can be used immediately, but keep in mind that a packaged mattress only regains its full shape and comfort after approximately 72 hours. Your body also needs a couple of weeks to adapt to the new mattress.
