Ergoflex Mattress Review
The Ergoflex Mattress was the very first ‘mattress in a box’ available in Australia (2010). It has a firm, dense feel and offers good back support.
Purchase and delivery
Like other mattress in a box products, the Ergoflex Mattress can be simply ordered online (through the Ergoflex website) and it will arrive at your door in a compact box. Delivery times are fast and next-day delivery is available for most customers (see delivery times in our ‘Delivery’ section below).
Removing the mattress from its packaging was little trouble, and should only take 5-10 minutes. As usual, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box, even though it is still possible with one person.
As per our standard testing procedure, we allowed 24 hours for the mattress to decompress before we began testing. You can see this mattress in ‘real life’ in our video review here:
The Ergoflex Mattress presents with a clean and simple design. The grey and white colour theme gives it a distinct style that is unique in the bed in a box market.
Comfort and support
The Ergoflex Mattress has a special TENCEL® cover that is anti-allergenic and fire resistant. This cover is also removable and washable, making this mattress highly practical. It feels soft and breathable, and is an impressive feature of this mattress.
The Ergoflex Mattress was the very first ‘mattress in a box’ available in Australia.
This cover sits over Ergoflex’s signature ‘Visco-Elastic Memory Foam’ which is 9cm in depth, much thicker than most other memory foam mattresses on the market. This layer of memory foam has a unique spongy, dense feel, quite different to many innerspring mattresses.
The absorbs body weight slowly but still offers reasonable pressure relief. The mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, its suitability will vary between individuals.
Based on our testing, our team rated it as a ‘firm’ feel and a 8 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
The remaining components of this mattress include a 5cm layer of a ‘Cool-Sleep Airflow Layer’ which helps with ventilation and air-flow. This sits over a 9cm layer of ‘High Resilience Foam’ that forms the main support structure of the mattress. The mattress has a relatively low height (23 cm) but with a weight capacity of 190kgs, it should accomodate people of all sizes.
When it comes to back support, the Ergoflex Mattress stands tall. There is no obvious sinking or dipping, and the mattress should maintain healthy spinal alignment in all body positions.
It’s worth noting that the Ergoflex Mattress feels similar to many Tempur™ mattresses, so it is a legitimate option for those customers who like the feel of a Tempur mattress, but don’t want to spend several thousands.
Due to its construction, the Ergoflex Mattress doesn’t respond to normal sleep movements much at all. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) may be difficult for some people.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The Ergoflex Mattress is nicely made and appears to be very durable. It feels stable and partner disturbance is very minimal. The nature of memory foam also means that it doesn’t have the typical ‘bounce’ to it like other spring mattresses, which usually helps to reduce motion transfer.
This mattress is well certified as non-toxic so it will be safe to bring into your home. It comes with a handy 30 night trial period and a 10 year warranty, giving you plenty of peace of mind.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Ergoflex Mattress to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).
A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
Sleep Republic Pro Base
It’s also worth noting that this mattress is fully compatible with adjustable bed bases.
Our expert team always emphasises that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Available sizes
The Ergoflex Mattress is available in 6 sizes (king, queen, double, king single, long single, and single size) which is an impressive size offering, and will accommodate those who want to place 2 long singles together (which make up a king size mattress).

Final verdict
The Ergoflex Mattress offers a good option in the online mattress market, especially for those who prefer the unique feel of memory foam. Its level of comfort may not suit everyone, but it uses quality foams and comes with a 10 year warranty.
