Octasmart Deluxe Mattress Review
The Octasmart Deluxe Mattress has a low profile height and uses a special ‘Octaspring’ technology. This technology combines the comfort of foam with the support of springs.
The Octasmart Deluxe Mattress forms part of the Octasmart product range that also includes the popular Octasmart Plus Topper and the Octasmart Plus Mattress.
Purchase and delivery
As with other mattress in a box options, the Octasmart Deluxe Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the Octasmart website) and it will arrive at your door in a box. Delivery is free, and our box arrived in good condition.
The Octasmart Deluxe Mattress was easy to remove from its packaging, but as always, we still recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box. Unpacking the Octasmart Deluxe Mattress shouldn’t take too long (5-10 minutes), and we allowed it to decompress for 48 hours before testing.
Aesthetically, the Octasmart Plus Mattress presents well with a modern, fashionable appearance. It sits 19cm high, and uses a grey, white, and orange colour theme.
Comfort and support
The Octasmart Deluxe Mattress uses a ‘Smart Performance Cover’. This feels soft and is designed for breathability and airflow. This cover sits over a 4cm layer of memory foam and a layer of ‘Ecocell’ foam. This comfort layer feels dense and spongy, but is still quite comfortable.
This mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers), but understandably, this suitability will vary between individuals.
Based on our testing, our team rated it as a ‘medium-firm’ feel and an 7 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
You can ‘soften’ this mattress by using the Octasmart Plus Topper (sold separately). This topper has will add extra height to the mattress and should add more comfort.
The main support structure of the Octasmart Deluxe Mattress is made up of an ‘Octaspring’ layer. This technology involves a network of ‘foam springs’ that enhance ventilation whilst providing support.
This support structure includes 3 smart zones (for the shoulders, hips, and back) but as with most zoned mattresses, our experts found it difficult to feel the difference in pressure between these zones.
Due to its low profile height, it may not be suitable for heavy people. Nevertheless, it should offer most people a good level of spinal support.
The Octasmart Deluxe Mattress doesn’t respond particularly well to normal sleep movements. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) may require some effort.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
A queen size Octasmart Deluxe Mattress is only 22.2kgs, making it noticeably light in weight. This makes it easy to carry and also easy to change the bed sheets, which can be difficult with heavier mattresses.
As a comparison, other ‘innerspring’ beds in a box like the Eva Mattress (which uses pocket springs) weighs 55 kgs.
The relative light weight (and low profile) of the Octasmart Deluxe Mattress makes it suitable for a number of sleep applications (such as temporary sleep arrangements, bunk beds or as a caravan mattress).

As you would expect on a low profile mattress, edge support isn’t fantastic, but should be serviceable for most people. Although the mattress doesn’t come with side handles, its lightweight should make it easy enough to rotate and carry.
The Smart Performance Cover is removable and washable. It is easy to remove, and the top cover can be machine washed (at 40°C). This allows you to keep your mattress clean and hygienic and is an appealing feature of this mattress.
The one aspect of this mattress that we found questionable is the integrity of the foam springs. These are attached to the upper and lower foam components with glue, so durability may be an issue.
It’s worth noting here that the Octasmart Deluxe Mattress comes with a solid 80 night trial period and an 18 year warranty, giving you plenty of peace of mind.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Octasmart Deluxe Mattress to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).
A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
