Onebed X Mattress Review
The Onebed X Mattress is comfortable mattress in a box option with a medium feel. It classifies as a ‘hybrid’ mattress as it combines foam and springs in one cohesive unit (without a distinguishable pillow top).
The Onebed X Mattress is a recent addition to Onebed’s well-known mattress range which includes the mid range Onebed Original Mattress and the entry level Onebed Essential Mattress.
Purchase and delivery
Just like other mattresses in a box, the Onebed X Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the Onebed website) and it will arrive at your door in a box (see delivery times in the ‘Delivery’ section below). Delivery is free to most areas, and our box arrived in good condition.
The Onebed X Mattress was easy to remove from its packaging, but we do recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box. Unpacking time was 5-10 minutes, and (as recommended by Onebed) we allowed it to decompress for 5 days before testing.
This mattress presents well and gives off a cool, modern vibe. It uses a blue and white colour theme and has an almost ‘space age’ look.
Comfort and support
The Onebed X Mattress has a top cover made of a ‘viscose blended fabric’. This feels smooth and comfortable, and has been designed for ventilation. This cover sits over several layers of memory foam which absorb body weight smoothly and offer nice pressure relief.
This mattress should suit most side sleepers, but it may also suit side sleepers and stomach sleepers. As you would expect though, this suitability will vary between individuals.
Based on our testing, our team rated it as a ‘medium-firm feel’ and an 5.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
These comfort layers sit over a 5 zone pocket spring system, which feels strong and stable. This spring system works well with the top comfort layers, and responds nicely to normal sleep movements.
In terms of spinal support, the Onebed X Mattress stands tall and should accommodate people of all sizes. Furthermore, motion transfer is minimal so a restless partner shouldn’t be an issue.
As we just alluded to, this mattress responds well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be too much trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
Build quality of the Onebed X Mattress is very good. The mattress contains a ‘foam box’ edge which gives good edge support and means that you can’t feel the springs through the side. This means you could be mistaken for thinking this is a full foam mattress but a box edge always scores points with our expert review team.
The Onebed X Mattress has a solid 125 night trial period and a 15 year warranty. It is also well-certified as non-toxic, and has been tested by CertiPUR-US® who is among the world’s leaders in foam and fabric testing.
The Onebed X Mattress is compatible with an adjustable bed base.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Onebed X Mattress to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).
A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
The Onebed X Mattress is compatible with an adjustable (electric) bed base. With only a small number of bed in a box products with this compatibility, this is an appealing feature for those who love the versatility of an adjustable bed. In most cases, your mattress will be donated to the Salvation Army, going to someone in need. For some rural areas, we may need your help in dropping off the mattress to charity. If that is not possible, just give us some time and we will look for other alternatives to collection.
If you’re not happy then neither are we – we strive for 100% customer satisfaction whether you love your Onebed or not.

Warranty

If you notice any defects with your Onebed X Mattress or mattress cover, we will replace the defective product free of charge.
Feel free to give your Onebed the same workout you would with any other mattress but be aware that our warranty only extends to defects associated with ordinary use of the mattress. Your Onebed will only be covered by the warranty if it has been placed on a suitable flat hard surface or structurally sound base.
