Assembly & ease of setup
Is this bed base easy to assemble?
We’ve assembled dozens of bed bases over the years, and in recent times many brands have moved towards genuinely simple, no-tools assembly systems.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t our experience with the Acacia Tree Yakka Bed Frame.
At the time of testing, we couldn’t locate any assembly instructions online on the product page, nor were any included with the bed frame itself. We checked all packaging thoroughly. While there was an envelope containing care instructions and warranty information, there were no step-by-step assembly guidelines provided.
Because we’re experienced with bed base assembly, we were still able to work through the process, but it involved a fair amount of trial and error. In short, the side panels need to be connected to the base panel and central support beam first, before the entire structure is then attached to the headboard. Even once that sequence became clear, aligning everything and tightening the fixings proved challenging.
This is very much a tools-required assembly. There’s a lot of Allen key work involved, often in tight spaces with limited room to manoeuvre. We also found some of the exposed metal threads unforgiving, managing to nick our fingers during the process. Compared to many modern bed bases that slot together intuitively, this one felt fiddly and time-consuming.
To be blunt, assembly was frustrating and took considerably longer than expected. Once fully assembled, the bed frame does look excellent and feels solid, but the setup experience didn’t match the premium positioning of the product. Clear instructions – either printed or online – would likely improve the overall ownership experience.
Design and aesthetics
What does it look like in real life?
Once assembled, the Acacia Tree Yakka Bed Frame presents very well. The floating-style design gives the frame a modern, lightweight appearance, helping it feel less bulky despite its solid timber construction.
Our review sample featured the upholstered headboard in Akito Natural fabric, paired with Tasmanian Oak side panels in the standard timber finish. This combination worked particularly well, blending warm, natural timber tones with soft, neutral upholstery for a look that feels both contemporary and inviting.
Overall, the design is clean and understated, with well-balanced proportions and minimal visual clutter. It’s a bed frame that should sit comfortably in a wide range of modern and natural interior styles.
Quality and stability
How strong and stable is this bed base?
Once assembled, the Acacia Tree Yakka Bed Frame feels exceptionally strong and stable. The headboard is securely fixed to the side panels, and the overall structure has very little movement, even when pressure is applied to the frame or headboard.
A real standout is the solid timber slat system. These are the thickest slats we’ve encountered in all our years of bed base testing. Each slat measures approximately 9cm wide and 3.5cm deep, with spacing of around 7.5cm between slats. In every one of these measurements, the Yakka slats outperform any solid slat base we’ve tested to date.
The result is a bed base that feels extremely robust under load, with excellent weight distribution and support across the sleeping surface. From a structural and stability perspective, this is a genuinely impressive piece of furniture and one of the strongest timber bed bases we’ve reviewed.
Sustainability
Is it environmentally friendly?
Sustainability is a core focus behind the Acacia Tree Yakka Bed Frame. All timber used in its construction is sourced from sustainably managed forests, with a strong emphasis on responsible forestry and long-term environmental stewardship.
The Acacia Tree works exclusively with timber suppliers that prioritise sustainability. Australian hardwoods are sourced from PEFC-certified, sustainably managed temperate forests, while any imported timbers are supplied through Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC-C113479) Chain of Custody certified providers, independently verified by Scientific Certification Systems.
For Tasmanian-sourced timbers, sustainability is further supported through compliance with the Forest Practices Code and the Tasmanian Forests Agreement (TFA), providing confidence that the timber is harvested and managed responsibly.
In addition, The Acacia Tree operates a one purchase, one tree initiative, with a tree planted for every furniture item sold. While no single product solves environmental challenges on its own, this approach goes beyond baseline compliance and reflects a genuine effort to leave a positive environmental footprint.
