The Sommuto Mattress is a nice option in the Australian bed in a box market. It uses premium Australian made foams and comes with a 100 night trial period.
Purchase and delivery
As with other mattress in a box options, the Sommuto Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the Sommuto website) and it will arrive at your door in a box. Delivery is free and you can see the delivery times in the ‘Delivery’ section below.
Unpacking the Sommuto Mattress should only take 5-10 minutes and, as usual, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box. As per our standard testing protocol, we allowed it to decompress for 24 hours before commencing our product assessment.
Aesthetically, the Sommuto Mattress has a modern, fashionable look. It uses a grey and white colour theme and its red coloured brand label gives it a nice touch.
Comfort and support
The Sommuto Mattress starts with an ‘easy clean’ cover that is designed for sleep temperature regulation. This cover sits over a layer of MEMair Breeze™ memory foam and a high resilience foam. These comfort layers offers nice pressure relief, even though it sounds a little ‘sandy’ during sleep movements.
Based on our testing, our team rated it as a ‘medium-firm feel’ and an 7 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
The main body of this mattress is made up of a durable high density core support foam. This offers good back support and should be strong enough for people of most sizes.
The finer details
It’s worth noting that the Sommuto Mattress is Australian made, making it one of only a handful of mattress in a box options in Australia that are locally made. Overall build quality is sound and edge support is reasonable for a full foam mattress.
The combination of the foam mattress components does not produce a huge amount of motion transfer, so partner disturbance on the Sommuto Mattress is minimal.
Although we couldn’t locate any formal non-toxic certifications, Sommuto does specifically state that “our foams are low VOC (volatile organic compounds) and do not contain mercury, lead or formaldehyde”. It’s also worth noting that the Sommuto Mattress has a 100 night trial period and a 10 year warranty.

The Sommuto Mattress is made in Australia using Australian made foams. These foams are technologically advanced, polyurethane foams.
All foams used in the Sommuto Mattress are made to the highest standard. Our foams are low VOC and do not contain mercury, lead or formaldehyde. The technology our supplier uses is the highest standard in CO2 foaming manufacturing and they also have a strong emphasis on ethical recycling.
The Sommuto Mattress is engineered to keep you cool and comfortable. MEMair Breeze™ has 8 times higher airflow than traditional memory foam by providing superior evaporative cooling for optimum comfort.
The Sommuto Mattress is suitable to be placed on any firm and flat surface. This includes slat base and adjustable beds. Please note that if slats are used, they should be no further than 10cm apart.
