The Slumbr Twilight Mattress is a low cost, firm mattress that forms one of the budget options in the Bed in a Box Shop mattress range. It has a 30 night trial period along with a handy 7 year warranty.
Purchase and delivery
The Slumbr Twilight Mattress can be conveniently ordered online through the Bed in a Box Shop website. Delivery is free and the mattress can be delivered Australia wide. Bed in a Box Shop has a good delivery service – see delivery times below in the ‘Delivery’ section further down.
The transport box was of good quality and it arrived in excellent condition. The box also has handy transport wheels, typical of the attention to detail shown by Bed in a Box Shop.
Aesthetically, the Slumbr Twilight Mattress has a simple, clean style. It uses a white and grey colour theme, and its brand name label and embroidery give it a nice touch.
Comfort and support
The Slumbr Twilight Mattress has a comfort layer that includes knitted fabric and Dacron (polyester) fibre in its top cover. This cover sits over multiple layers of comfort foams that includes 25mm of 20 Density Convoluted Foam, 6mm of 20 Density HD Foam, 15mm of 25 Density HD Foam, and 15mm of 25 Density HD Foam.

Nevertheless, this mattress should suit most back sleepers. It may also suit some side sleepers and stomach sleepers, but its suitability will vary between individuals.
Our team rated it a ‘firm’ feel and a 8 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
Sitting below this comfort layer, is a 3 Zone Indie Coil Pocket Spring System. This feels reasonably stable, and should provide adequate back support for most people. The spring unit does seem to isolate motion fairly well, so partner disturbance is not significant.
The Slumbr Twilight Mattress responds well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the ‘optimal’ zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
Overall build quality of the Slumbr Twilight Mattress is quite basic, but what you would expect for the price. You can feel the springs through the side of the mattress, but edge support is decent.
The mattress does contain side handles, which is impressive, considering that many far more expensive (and well known) mattresses do not include handles.
The Slumbr Twilight Mattress offers a 30 night trial period and a 7 year warranty. It is also well certified as non-toxic by two of the world’s leading authorities (CertiPUR-US® and Oeko-Tex) in foam and fabric testing.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Slumbr Twilight Mattress to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).
A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
