The Quokka Beds Cot Mattress is an admirable cot mattress that holds numerous non-toxic and eco-friendly certifications. It is cleverly designed and can be flipped over to produce a firm side and a medium side.
Purchase and delivery
The Quokka Beds Cot Mattress can be conveniently ordered online through the Quokka Beds website. Delivery is free to most areas in Australia with delivery times varying from 5-10 days.
The mattress arrived in a sturdy cardboard box and was not compressed like a typical bed in a box. The product also had some additional plastic wrapping to help prevent any damage or soiling.
It’s worth noting here that this mattress comes with a free organic waterproof mattress protector.
The Quokka Beds Cot Mattress has a rather plain appearance with a cream coloured external fabric. It sits 10cm high and includes a brand name label on one end, and a GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) label on the other end.
It also has a ‘firm side, medium side’ label on its side to indicate which side is which.
Mattress construction
The outer cover of this mattress is made from an organic cotton and wool cover. This fabric feels thick and durable, and feels fibrous rather than smooth and silky.
This top cover is also breathable and well ventilated, so it should help to enhance breathing and temperature regulation during sleep.
This cover sits over a 5cm layer of Organic Rubberised Coir (coconut fibre). This forms the firm side of the mattress and is designed for infants up to 12 months old.
The other side of the mattress is made of 100% Organic Latex (3.75cm) derived from sustainable forests in Sri Lanka. This side is the medium feel and offers more comfort and softness than the firm side.
Comfort and support
As a general comment, the Quokka Beds Cot Mattress provides a firm and supportive sleeping surface for infants and toddlers.
The firm side (of organic coconut fibre) has a distinct firm feel that is very suitable for infants. It also produces a nice level of responsiveness, so the mattress shouldn’t feel hard or uncomfortable for your young one.

The Quokka Beds Cot Mattress has an impressive 100 night trial period. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied with the product. This refund is minus the delivery fee, but it is capped at $100.

The overall craftsmanship of this mattress appears to be of high quality. The finishings are well made and the stitching is strong. Edge support is not so critical in a cot mattress, but we did notice that the edge support was (not surprisingly) better on the firm side.
