From a visual perspective, the Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress has a simple and natural appearance. It uses a beige colour theme with distinctive brand name embroidery at the base.

Mattress construction

The Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress is made up of a number of parts and materials.

1. Organic Cotton Cover

The top cover of this mattress is made from a luxurious, GOTS certified, 100% organic cotton knit fabric. This fabric has a high-density, 350 gsm (grams per square metre) composition that covers the top and sides of the mattress.

2. Organic Cotton Wadding Protection

Sitting underneath the top cover is a layer of plush wadding (180 gsm). This wadding is quilted horizontally and is made from GOTS certified, 100% organic cotton. Like the top cover, this wadding covers the top and sides of the mattress.

3. Natural Latex Comfort Layer

Perhaps the most remarkable component of the Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress is the 5cm layer of plush latex. This latex is included to give a luxurious comfort level, and is crafted with a D65 (soft) density.

This latex is also sustainably sourced from Sri Lanka and is certified as non-toxic by eco-INSTITUT®.

4. Premium Springs for Superior Support

The main support system of this mattress is a 3-zone, durable steel pocket spring layer. This spring system is surrounded by an additional 4th extra firm zone on the edges to help enhance edge support.

Made from Grade 65 high carbon steel, these pocket springs are designed for support and durability.

5. Natural Latex Edge Support Border

To improve edge support even further, the Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress also includes a 2.5cm thick border made of extra firm D90 natural latex.

This layer is added to help ensure long-lasting stability on the mattress perimeter. It also removes the feeling of springs through the sides of the mattress.

6. Natural Latex Support Layer

Underneath the pocket springs, sits another layer of highly responsive, 2.5cm thick layer of D65 natural latex. This is added to increase support, comfort, and responsiveness of the pocket springs.

In short, this additional latex layer aims to enhance the plushness, comfort, and durability of the mattress.

7. Organic Cotton Canvas Bottom Fabric

The fabric on the bottom of the mattress is made of a sustainable and durable fabric layer. This material is a GOTS certified, 100% organic, 340gsm cotton fabric.

8. Organic Cotton Tape Edge

This tape edge fabric is also GOTS-certified, 100% organic, 420gsm cotton. This fabric with a herringbone weave enhances the mattress durability, maintains shape, and ensures longevity with double stitching.

9. Reinforced Handles

To make this mattress easier to carry and manoeuvre, Peace Lily has added heavy-duty handles on each side. This should allow for effortless rotation and hassle-free movement.

Comfort and support

The Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress blends support, comfort, and responsiveness together nicely.

Whilst being comfortable and supportive, it is characterised by the rubbery feel of latex which produces plenty of bounciness and is different to the spongy feel of foam. Latex is also known to be more durable than most foam products.

This mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, its suitability will vary between individuals.

As a general comment, the 3-zone pocket spring system provides reliable back support, and should accommodate people of most sizes.

The Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress responds well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness as optimal. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.

The finer details

The overall build quality of the Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress is very respectable. The materials, fabric, and stitching all appear to be of a good standard.

As we touched on earlier, the Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress comes with practical side handles that are positioned vertically to the mattress edge. The handles are strong and easy to use, with plenty of space to fit your hands.

Edge support is decent, so users should be able to use the entire surface of the mattress without fear of falling off the edge.

The edge is a bit softer with the plush topper, but this is to be expected – soft mattresses usually aren’t as strong on the mattress perimeter.

The Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress blends support, comfort, and responsiveness together nicely.

Partner disturbance is noticeable, but certainly not significant. So, a restless partner shouldn’t cause too much disruption.

With that said, motion transfer may vary. A larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.

The materials used in the Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress hold numerous non-toxic certifications. These certifications include Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), OEKO-TEX®, and the eco-INSTITUT.

These certifications are all issued by reputable testing groups that are world leaders in fabric and product assessment. This should appeal to many health conscious buyers.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Peace Lily Hybrid Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.

A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.
