My Side GEN 7.0 Green/Red Review

The My Side GEN 7.0 Green/Red forms part of the My Side mattress range that is exclusive to Forty Winks. The My Side range links with the bedMATCH diagnostic system which aims at matching you with the correct mattress, based on computerised data.

The current My Side mattress range is different from the previous My Side range that was available at Forty Winks (e.g. Series 8). The range is also different from the My Side models that were previously available at Snooze.

Purchase and delivery

This mattress can be ordered online through the Forty Winks website. It can also be purchased through any of Forty Winks’ stores across Australia.

Aesthetically, the My Side GEN 7.0 Green/Red presents nicely and has a definite presence. It sits 39cm high, and uses a white and grey colour theme. The colour labels and My Side embroidery also give it a nice touch.

Comfort and support

The top comfort layer of this mattress includes eco-friendly Tencel, copper-infused memory foam, and gel-infused memory foam. This comfort layer also incorporates Cool Wave and Airflow Technology to help with cooling and breathability.

Red side

The ‘red side’ feels comfortable and absorbs bodyweight smoothly. It should suit all sleeping positions (back sleepers, side sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably this suitability will vary between individuals.

We rated this red side as a ‘medium-firm’ feel and an 6.5 / 10 on the firmness scale. Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Green side

The ‘green side’ feels noticeably soft and offers an abundance of pressure relief. It should suit most side sleepers, but it may also suit some back sleepers and stomach sleepers.

We rated this green side as a ‘medium-plush’ feel and an 4 / 10 on the firmness scale. Again, please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide.

The support structure used in the My Side GEN 7.0 Green/Red is a Macro-Conformance Coil. This feels robust and offers good spinal support, assuming that the comfort layer is matched appropriately to the individual.

Due to the relatively thick comfort layers, the My Side GEN 7.0 Green/Red doesn’t responds to normal sleep movements as well as other mattresses that we have tested. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) may be easier on some other mattresses.

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

In terms of build quality and refinement, the My Side GEN 7.0 Green/Red is excellent. The quality of its finishings is outstanding, and side handles should make it easy to transport and rotate the mattress.

It’s worth noting here that this mattress is Australian made and comes with a 10 year warranty.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the My Side GEN 7.0 Green/Red to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).

A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
