The Luxara Platinum Mattress can be conveniently ordered online through the Luxara website.

Delivery is free and the mattress is available Australia wide. Delivery times are usually between 3-10 working days, depending on your location. For more information on delivery times, see our ‘Delivery information’ section further down.

It’s worth noting that Luxara mattresses are made to order in Australia. You won’t receive old inventory (or compressed, boxed mattresses) that are stored in a warehouse.

Our Luxara Platinum Mattress arrived in immaculate condition, thanks to two thick layers of plastic wrapping.

As mentioned above, the Luxara Platinum Mattress doesn’t come compressed in a box, so you won’t need to wait for it to decompress before sleeping on it.

Aesthetically, the Luxara Platinum Mattress has clean, natural look that perhaps reflects its Australian made status. It sits 37cm high and uses a beige and brown colour theme.

Mattress construction

The Luxara Platinum Mattress is an innerspring mattress that has a number of layers and components in its construction.

1. Plush & Breathable Sleep Surface

The top cover of this mattress is made of a hypoallergenic and antimicrobial bamboo fabric. This fabric is highly breathable and may help to promote a cooler, more comfortable sleep.

Under the bamboo fabric lies a layer of Australian wool, which is a natural insulator. This should help to keep you cool in summer, and warm in winter.

Within this top cover is a layer of Dunlop Dream Foam that has been treated with Ultra-Fresh™ antimicrobial protection. This helps to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mould, and mildew.

2. Lux-Gel Memory Foam Support Layer

Underneath the main sleeping surface is a a temperature neutral layer of Lux-Gel premium memory foam.

This foam conforms to the natural shape of the body whilst providing the ultimate in pressure relief. It also helps to keep you cool throughout the night.

3. Dunlop Foam Layers for Comfort & Support

There are multiple Dunlop foam layers in this mattress that all provide perfect transitional comfort. This allows for responsive support and comfort whilst retaining excellent sleep temperature regulation.

Dunlop foams are eco-friendly, highly breathable, superior quality and Australian made. They are also Sensitive Choice® approved asthma friendly, GECA approved and free from nasty chemicals.

4. Micro Pocket Spring System

Within the top comfort section is a micro pocket spring system. This system contains 1,280 individually encased micro pocket springs (queen size) made from durable recycled steel.

These springs are designed to contour to the curves of the body to relieve pressure points.

The micro springs also respond to your body’s movements, reducing motion transfer for a more undisturbed rest, whilst allowing efficient airflow between the comfort foam layers.

5. 5 Zone Pocket Spring Support System

The main support structure of the Luxara Platinum Mattress contains 740 individually encased pocket coils (queen size). These coils are tempered three times for maximum strength.

These independent pocket springs allow for superior breathability and minimal partner disturbance.

This layer of high-gauge pocket-springs are designed in 5 zones for optimum support for the head, back and feet. The springs should also provide gentle pressure relief for the shoulders and knees.

6. Dual Perimeter Edge Support System

A strong mattress perimeter is an important feature of a mattress and this is achieved with an Ultra-Fresh™ treated antimicrobial foam encasement. This reduces deters sag on the mattress edge and provides extra durability.

This Dual Perimeter Edge Support creates a supportive feel that spans the entire surface of the mattress, giving you maximum sleep surface.

7. Premium Outer Fabric

On the sides of the mattress is a premium fabric that gives a luxurious and modern look. These side panels also include side handles to make moving your mattress easier.

Comfort and support

The top bamboo fabric cover feels soft, smooth, and should allow plenty of ventilation.

The main comfort layer has a nice level of comfort and absorbs bodyweight nicely. We noticed a small amount of stiffness during body movements, but this loosened up quickly and was likely the stretching of the new materials.

This mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, its suitability will vary between individuals.

All of our expert reviewers agreed that this mattress has a ‘medium-firm’ feel. By majority vote, we settled on a 7 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

Firmness rating

Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Mattresses with the same firmness level can also feel quite different.

Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.

We tested the Luxara Platinum Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with solid slats.

The 5 Zone Pocket Spring System feels strong, sturdy, and well balanced. Changing sleep positions requires little effort, as this spring system responds well to normal sleep movements.

In terms of spinal support, this mattress is excellent. It should accommodate people of all sizes, and we didn’t detect any undesirable dipping or sinking.

As we alluded to above, the spring system in the Luxara Platinum Mattress responds well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

The overall build quality of the Luxara Platinum Mattress is very admirable. The quality of fabrics and foams is excellent, as is the quality of the stitchings and finishings.

The premium outer fabric around the sides feels expensive and demonstrates Luxara’s attention to detail.

Edge support is firm thanks to the dual perimeter edge design. So, users should be able to use the entire surface of the mattress, without fear of falling off the edge.

The Luxara Platinum Mattress does have side handles, making it easy to rotate or transport the mattress. The handles themselves are strong, but we did notice that the inside foam is exposed and not fully covered.

At 37cm high, this mattress sits higher than many other mattresses. So, you may need to use deep fitting sheets such as the Ecoy Cooling Bamboo Sheets or the Koala Deep Fit Sheets. Standard size sheets will likely be too tight.

As with many innerspring mattresses, partner disturbance is present but not significant. So, a restless partner shouldn’t cause too many problems.

With that said, motion transfer may vary. A larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.

In terms of health and hygiene, the Luxara Platinum Mattress is well certified.

The mattress is also approved by Sensitive Choice, which is part of the Asthma Council of Australia. Some of the foams are also treated with Ultra-Fresh™ which eliminates viruses and bacteria.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Luxara Platinum Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.

A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Koala Balmain Bed Base, would also be very suitable.

Koala Paddington Bed Base

We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Trial period and warranty

The Luxara Platinum Mattress comes with a 100 night trial period, which is a typical trial period in the online mattress market. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied.

It’s worth mentioning that there is a minimum 30 day adjustment period before you can request a return of the Luxara Platinum Mattress.

This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is a typical warranty period in context of similarly priced competitors.

The Luxara Platinum Mattress is available in 6 sizes (super king, king, queen, double, king single, and single) so it should suit all sleeping arrangements.
