Aesthetics and Presentation
What does it look like in real life?
The Luxara Classic Mattress has a simple yet clean look with a distinct pillow top. The side fabric features breathable mesh panels, and the mattress includes sturdy vertical side handles that are generously sized and easy to grip.
At 31cm high, it has a substantial profile and should pair well with most standard bed bases.
Mattress construction
What’s inside the Luxara Classic Mattress?
This is an innerspring mattress featuring a mix of foams and a precision-engineered spring system.
1. Plush Pillow Top with Bamboo Cover
The surface layer features a 7cm pillow top, quilted with Australian wool and Dunlop Dream Foam, covered in naturally breathable bamboo fabric. This creates a soft, fresh, and antimicrobial sleep surface that helps regulate temperature.
2. Lux-Support Foam Layer
A layer of high-density support foam provides pressure relief and contouring comfort.
3. Dunlop Comfort Foams
Additional Dunlop foams create a responsive transition between the top and spring layers. These foams are eco-friendly, GECA certified, Sensitive Choice® approved, and free from harmful chemicals.
4. 5-Zone Pocket Spring System
The foundation is a 5-zone pocket spring unit (740 coils in a queen), tempered three times for strength. The zoning provides tailored support for the shoulders, back, hips, and legs, while minimising partner disturbance.
5. Perimeter Edge Support
Reinforced edge foam (treated with Ultra-Fresh™ protection) strengthens the perimeter, helping prevent sagging and allowing full use of the mattress surface.
6. Breathable Side Fabric with Handles
Mesh fabric improves airflow, while the strong side handles make the mattress easier to move.
Comfort and support
What’s it like to sleep on the Luxara Classic Mattress?
The top cover on all firmness options feels soft, smooth, and breathable.
The firm version feels firm and supportive but still with a nice comfort level. This option should suit most sleeping positions – side, back, or stomach – though suitability will vary between individuals.
Our expert reviewers settled on a 7.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).
Firm version
Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Luxara Classic Mattress on the Soho Slimline Base, a good quality base with solid slats.
The medium version has a soft, springy feel that offers plenty of comfort. It absorbs body weight smoothly and should still suit a wide range of sleeping positions.
Our reviewers rated this version at 5 / 10 on the firmness scale.
Medium version
The soft version provides an abundance of pressure relief and would be best suited to side sleepers. Like many soft mattresses, this version may not be suitable for back sleepers or for those who require a higher level of back support.
We rated it at 3.5 / 10 on the firmness scale.
Soft version
Please note that our firmness ratings (and discussion) of the firm and soft versions are estimates based on our assessment of the medium version.
Overall back support is good in all versions, and naturally this will be dependent on the firmness level chosen and its suitability to each individual.
The spring system feels strong and responsive across all firmness options, and we would expect this mattress to accommodate sleepers of all sizes.
All firmness options respond well to normal sleep movements. We rated responsiveness in the optimal zone, meaning changing positions – or engaging in intimate activities – should feel easy and natural.
Responsiveness
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
What else should I know?
The build quality of this mattress is impressive, with strong stitching, quality foams, and a robust spring system. The vertical handles are a standout feature – spacious, strong, and practical for moving the mattress.
The use of bamboo fabric, Australian wool, and Dunlop foams gives the mattress an eco-conscious profile. The foams are GECA certified, asthma-friendly, and Ultra-Fresh™ treated for antimicrobial protection. Springs are made from recycled carbon steel.
At 31cm high, fitted sheets should go on easily, and its durability should exceed many compressed bed-in-a-box competitors.
Edge support is decent and is best in the firm version. Partner disturbance was minimal during testing thanks to the independent pocket springs.
With that said, motion transfer may vary. A larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.
We didn’t notice any abnormal heat retention on this mattress. We wouldn’t expect this mattress to ‘sleep hot’ or for large amounts of heat to accumulate.
Keep in mind though that sleep temperature can be complex and involves many factors (e.g. type of mattress, pillow, clothing, sheets, room temperature, humidity, medical conditions, occupants of the bed etc).
Furthermore, soft mattresses tend to be warmer (than firm mattresses) as the thick layers of foam can trap heat during sleep.

Bed base compatibility
What type of bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Luxara Classic Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will void the mattress warranty.
We don’t recommend the Luxara Classic Mattress be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base. as this may cause damage to the mattress components. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
What happens if I don’t like it?
The Luxara Classic Mattress comes with a 100 night trial period, which is a typical trial period (of 100 nights) in the online mattress market.
Luxara does ask that you try the mattress for at least 30 days to allow your body to adjust to the new mattress.
This trial period means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied. Conditions do apply though, for example regional and rural customers may be charged a return shipping fee which will be deducted from your refund.
This mattress also comes with a 10 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is a typical warranty period in context of similarly priced competitors.
