The Lazycat Spring Mattress is a commendable mattress that is nicely balanced with comfort and support. It forms one half of the Lazycat range that also includes the Lazycat Foam Mattress.

Purchase and delivery
As with other mattress in a box products, the Lazycat Spring Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the Lazycat website) and will be delivered to your door in a compact box.
Lazycat offers free delivery, Australia wide. Orders are typically prepared and shipped within 1-3 business days and delivery to your home is generally between 1-10 business days (once shipped). For more information about delivery, see the ‘Delivery information’ section further down.
The mattress was easy to remove from its packaging, and as usual, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box. Unpacking the Lazycat Spring Mattress takes 5-10 minutes, and we allowed 24 hours for the mattress to decompress before testing.
Aesthetically, the Lazycat Spring Mattress has a rather typical appearance and is somewhat unremarkable. With that said, the top cover has an unusual ‘stained’ look that initially looks dirty or mouldy. Of course, this is more of an observation rather and shouldn’t influence any decision to purchase.
This mattress sits 27cm high and uses star shaped embroidery throughout the top surface. Its brand name embroidery gives the product a nice touch.
Mattress construction
As we touched on above, the Lazycat Spring Mattress has a breathable linen cover that is designed for breathability and ventilation. This should help to reduce moisture and inhibit the growth of dust mites, fungi, bacteria, and other allergens.
Additionally, the breathable linen cover offers a soft and breathable surface that is easy to spot clean.
This cover sits over a layers of gel infused air memory foam, premium comfort foam, natural latex, high density support foam.
The gel infused air memory foam is designed to keep you feeling cool and fresh, and the layer of premium comfort foam aims to provide balanced pressure relief and responsiveness.
The natural latex is a particularly durable material that also offers nice pressure relief, and the high density support foam is engineered to provide reliable support.
The main support structure of the Lazycat Spring Mattress is a Multi Zone Independent Pocket Spring System. This spring unit is designed for reliable spinal support and airflow.
Comfort and support
The top cover of this mattress feels soft and breathable. This should help to regulate sleep temperature by facilitating a good level of airflow.
The comfort layers (gel infused air memory foam, premium comfort foam, natural latex, high density support foam) blend together nicely to provide smooth nice pressure relief.
The Lazycat Spring Mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, this suitability will vary between individuals.
Our team rated the Lazycat Spring Mattress as a ‘medium-firm’ feel and a 7 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Lazycat Spring Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a nice bed frame with rigid slats.
The Multi Zone Independent Pocket Spring System should offer ample support for most people, but we would consider a more robust mattress if it is used regularly by heavier people. With that said, it should suit people of most sizes.
In terms of partner disturbance, this mattress isolates motion quite well. So, a restless partner shouldn’t be a huge problem. It’s worth noting thought that larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.
The Lazycat Spring Mattress responds very well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness as optimal. In other words, changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any problem.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality and craftsmanship of the Lazycat Spring Mattress is respectable, but is a little lacking when you compare it to other, similarly priced products. Some of the fabrics used feel a bit cheap, as do some of the finishings.
Without any obviously foam encasement, you can feel the springs through the side of the mattress. While this is not a deal breaker, it does indicate some cost cutting and may reduce the strength of the mattress perimeter also referred to as edge support.
Edge support is still reasonable and is within normal limits for an innerspring mattress. Users should be able to use most of the mattress surface (without fear of falling off the edge).
The Lazycat Spring Mattress is well certified as non-toxic.
The mattress sits 27cm high which is relatively low, so this may be relevant if you require a lower sitting mattress for a particular bed base.
The inclusion of side handles is a big plus, and these make it considerably easier to transport and rotate a mattress. The side handles seem strong and durable, and we didn’t notice any tearing or ripping of the stitching. Interestingly, its sister model, the Lazycat Foam Mattress does not come with side handles.
The Lazycat Spring Mattress is well certified as non-toxic. Its fabric components have been certified by OEKO-TEX, one of the most reputable fabric testing groups in the world. Its foam components have been certified by CertiPUR-US®.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Lazycat Spring Mattress to be used with a bed base with rigid slats (not flexible/posture slats) with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart.
A base that we would recommend to be used with the Lazycat Spring Mattress is the Sleep Republic Pro Base.
We do not recommend the Lazycat Spring Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may damage the mattress and void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty. Furthermore, mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
Lazycat offers a 100 night trial period, which is a typical trial period in the online mattress market. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied (conditions do apply).
This mattress also comes with a 15 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is superior to the more common 10 year warranty among its competitors.
