Purchase and delivery
As with other mattress in a box products, the Lazycat Foam Mattress can be conveniently ordered online (through the Lazycat website) and will be delivered to your door in a compact box.
Lazycat offers free delivery, Australia wide. Orders are typically prepared and shipped within 1-3 business days and delivery to your home is generally between 1-10 business days (once shipped). For more information about delivery, see the ‘Delivery information’ section further down.
The mattress was easy to remove from its packaging, and as usual, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box. Unpacking the Lazycat Foam Mattress takes 5-10 minutes, and we allowed 24 hours for the mattress to decompress before testing.
Aesthetically, the Lazycat Foam Mattress has a simple and rather plain appearance. It sits 26cm high and uses horizontal and vertical stitching lines. Its brand name embroidery gives the product a nice touch.
Mattress construction
This mattress starts with a removable cover that can be machine washed. This breathable cover may help to reduce the growth of microorganisms such as dust mites, fungi, bacteria, and other allergens.
This cover sits over a layer of Gel Air Memory Foam which is designed to help regulate sleep temperature. As the name suggests, this layer is infused with cooling gel and may help to reduce the build up of heat.
Also included in this top comfort section is a layer of natural latex and premium comfort foam. Latex is a particularly resilient material and also offers nice pressure relief.
Lazycat’s premium comfort foam aims to enhance pressure relief and promote good spinal alignment. This foam layer is also designed to offer a nice level of ‘bounce’, also referred to as responsiveness.
The main support structure of the Lazycat Foam Mattress is made up of a high-density support foam. This material is engineered to prevent undesirable sinking and sagging, as well as long-lasting support.
Comfort and support
The top cover of this mattress feels soft, thick, and breathable. This creates a nice sleeping surface that should help to facilitate good ventilation during sleep.
The comfort layers (gel infused memory foam, natural latex, and premium comfort foam) combine together well to provide nice pressure relief. There is a very slight sinking sensation, so bodyweight is not absorbed as smoothly as in other mattresses that we have tested.
Nevertheless, the Lazycat Foam Mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, this suitability will vary between individuals.
Our team rated the Lazycat Foam Mattress as a ‘medium-firm’ feel and a 6.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies. Mattress firmness will also vary depending on the type of bed base used.
We tested the Lazycat Foam Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a nice bed frame with rigid slats.
The high-density support foam should offer adequate support for most people, but it may struggle slightly under the weight of larger people. With that said, it should suit people of most sizes.
As with many foam mattresses, this mattress has a low level of partner disturbance. So, a restless partner shouldn’t be a huge problem, but motion transfer does vary. A larger mattress (e.g. king size) will usually involve lower amounts of motion transfer. Partner disturbance will also depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.
Due to the predominantly foam construction of the Lazycat Foam Mattress, this mattress didn’t respond particularly well to normal sleep movements. In other words, changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) may be easier on other mattresses.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
The overall build quality and craftsmanship of the Lazycat Foam Mattress is reasonable.
Edge support is not fantastic, but is within normal limits for a foam mattress so users should be able to use most of the mattress surface (without fear of falling off the edge).
The zip pull (and zip mechanism) was smooth and easy to use, and removing the cover was straight forward.
The comfort layers combine together well to provide nice pressure relief.
The mattress sits 26cm high which is relatively low, but still quite typical of a foam mattress.
The lack of side handles for a mattress that retails at this price point is always disappointing – side handles make it considerably easier to transport and rotate a mattress. Interestingly, its sister model, the Lazycat Spring Mattress does come with side handles.
The Lazycat Foam Mattress is well certified as non-toxic. Its fabric components have been certified by OEKO-TEX, one of the most reputable fabric testing groups in the world. Its foam components have been certified by CertiPUR-US®.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Lazycat Foam Mattress to be used with a bed base with rigid slats (not flexible/posture slats) with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart.
A base that we would recommend to be used with the Lazycat Foam Mattress is the Sleep Republic Pro Base.
We do not recommend the Lazycat Foam Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this may damage the mattress and void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty. Furthermore, mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Trial period and warranty
Lazycat offers a 100 night trial period, which is a typical trial period in the online mattress market. This means that you can return the mattress for a refund if you are not satisfied (conditions do apply).
This mattress also comes with a 15 year warranty to cover any faulty materials or workmanship. This is superior to the more common 10 year warranty among its competitors.
