Krummelur Review
The Krummelur is one of four cot mattresses available at IKEA in Australia. It has a basic foam construction and doesn’t offer much air flow.
Purchase and delivery
This mattress can be ordered online, and delivery is available Australia-wide (see full delivery information in our ‘Delivery’ section below). It can also be purchased through any of IKEA’s stores across Australia.
Aesthetically, the Krummelur presents with a very plain appearance. It uses a white colour theme with ‘wavy’ stitching on the top cover.
Comfort and support
This mattress has a top cover made from a cotton and polyester fabric. This feels cheap and the mattress lacks a specific ‘comfort layer’.
We rated the Krummelur as an ‘firm’ feel and an 8 / 10 on the firmness scale. Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort.
The support structure in the Krummelur consists of polyurethane foam. This should provide adequate comfort and support for growing spines, but it does feel cheap and its durability would be questionable.
The finer details
In terms of build quality and craftsmanship, the Krummelur is ordinary. Its finishings feel cheap and it has a low height of just 8 cm.
Available sizes
The Krummelur is available in a cot size mattress (70 cm x 132 cm) which is designed specifically for IKEA cots. It is worth noting that IKEA cot mattresses are slightly larger than the standard Australian cot mattress size (69 cm 130 cm) so buyers must be mindful of possible size discrepancies.

Final verdict
The Krummelur is a basic cot mattress that lacks the refinement and ventilation that we would recommend for newborns and infants.

The outer cover is easy to remove and is machine washable at 60°C.
A fixed inner cover increases the fire safety of the mattress and makes it easy to put the outer cover back on after washing. It also prevents children from putting mattress contents in their mouth.
The zipper of this mattress has a little pocket where you can hide the pull tab from the hands of curious children.
The mattress has two different surfaces ‒ one wavy side with medium-firm comfort and one smooth side which is firmer.
For safety reasons, it is important that there are no gaps between the Krummelur mattress and the edges of the cot.
We recommend IKEA fitted sheets for cots. They are dimensioned for our mattresses, which means the mattress retains its secure shape and size.
