Purchase and delivery
The Koala Byron Sofa Bed can be conveniently ordered online through the Koala website.
This sofa bed can be ordered in 4 standard colours – Blush Sunset, Green Wattle, Currawong Grey, and Cappuccino, as well as ‘Luxe’ colour options of Aussie Moss, Sand Bank, and Ocean Salt. This colour selection should enable you to choose a colour to match with any home decor colour theme.
Koala offers same day delivery to most major cities, but a delivery cost will apply depending on your location. For more information about delivery, see our ‘Delivery’ section further down.
The Koala Byron Sofa Bed arrives in 5 boxes, most of which are around 30kgs in weight. With this in mind, we would highly recommend at least two people be available to take delivery.
Additionally, we would ensure that there is a large space available to place the boxes and to assemble the product.
Assembling
We strongly recommend two people to be available to assemble this sofa.
Even though the Koala Byron Sofa Bed won’t require any tools in the assembling process, this product will require some effort to put together. We found the positioning of some of the larger pieces quite challenging, so allow some time and patience during this process.

Once assembled, Koala recommends that you leave it to decompress for at least 72 hours to allow all of the foams and fabrics to find their normal shape.
The cushions and fabrics on our sample were a little wrinkled initially, but did smooth out nicely after a few days.
Comfort and support
The Koala Byron Sofa Bed in ‘sofa’ mode feels comfortable and supportive. Again, it will need a few days to decompress properly, so don’t be put off by the initial dense sensation.
The backrest cushions are comfortable, as are the arm rests. The arm rests could do with additional cushions though, like the Koala Cushy Sofa Bed does.
Transforming this sofa into ‘bed mode’ involves a few steps. You will need to remove the backrest cushions, and then pull out the bottom frame. Then, you will need to unfold the mattress so that it sits on the pull out frame.
We did find that we needed to position the mattress quite accurately to ensure that it sat properly on the pull out frame. If you don’t get this right, the mattress will hang over the edge of the frame.
The sleep surface in bed mode has a firm but comfortable feel, and is possibly the most comfortable bed mode that we have tested.
Transforming the sofa bed back into sofa mode involves folding the mattress back and positioning the mattress portion correctly. Then, you’ll need to push the frame back underneath the sofa.
It’s worth noting that partner disturbance is minimal and the mattress feels foamy and stable – certainly not cheap or flimsy.
The finer details
The Koala Byron Sofa Bed presents well with a simple yet sophisticated style.
The storage shelves and compartments (in bed mode) are handy and will allow you to store some basic personal items.
Even though there are zippers on some covers, Koala does not recommend removing these covers to wash. Instead, Koala recommends spot cleaning any nasty spills.
This sofa comes with a 120 night trial period, so you can return the sofa bed for a refund if you are not satisfied. It also comes with a 5 year warranty.
