Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven Review
The Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven is one of only a handful of Australian made, mattress in a box products. It is an excellent, all round mattress that is well balanced with comfort and support.
Please note that this mattress has been discontinued and is no longer available to purchase.
Purchase and delivery
The Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven can be conveniently ordered online, through the Happy Wombat website. Delivery is free, and the mattress can be delivered Australia-wide (see full delivery details in our ‘Delivery’ section further down).
The box arrived in in good condition, and removing the mattress from its packaging was fairly straight forward. As always, we recommend having two people on hand to help unpack a mattress in a box.
We allowed 24 hours for the mattress to decompress before conducting our testing.
Aesthetically, the Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven presents well with a warm, natural vibe. It uses a beige and brown colour theme, and its product labels give it a nice touch.
Comfort and support
The top cover of this mattress is made of a natural bamboo fabric that feels noticeably soft and smooth. This cover sits over a layer of hospital-grade, high-density Dunlop foam.
This top comfort layer absorbs body weight evenly and should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers). Understandably, this suitability will vary between individuals.
We rated the Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven as a ‘medium-firm’ feel and a 7 / 10 on the firmness scale. Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
The spring system used in the Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven is a 9 zone ‘ultra coil’ pocket spring system. This uses 742 springs per square metre, three times more springs than many standard pocket spring mattresses.
This spring unit offers very good back support and should accommodate people of all sizes. Partner disturbance is noticeable, but certainly not excessive.
The Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven responds nicely to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness as ‘optimal’. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
In terms of craftsmanship, this mattress is very respectable. It has a ‘full edge box’ construction ensures that enhances edge support, and its materials and finishings are of good quality.
As the name of this mattress implies, this mattress is very much centred around eco-friendliness.
As the name of this mattress implies, this mattress is very much centred around eco-friendliness. It is well certified as eco-friendly and non-toxic by GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia) and Sensitive Choice. With this in mind, you can feel safe bringing this product into your home.
The Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven has an impressive 20-year warranty, and a 30 night comfort guarantee.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven to be used with a sturdy bed frame with solid slats (such as the Chiropedic Bed Base). We also recommend that these slats are no longer than 8 cm apart.
A bed frame with ‘flexible’ (posture) slats will not provide adequate support for this mattress. Please note that any unsupportive mattress foundation will void the warranty for this mattress.
Furthermore, we do not recommend the Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this will also void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.
It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.
Available sizes
The Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven is available in 3 sizes (king, queen, and double) so it should suit most adult sleeping situations.
Here are Australia’s standard bed (mattress) sizes in 2023.
Final verdict
The Happy Wombat Seventh Heaven is a very nice mattress that should appeal to those who value locally made, eco-friendly products. Its 20 year warranty is also noteworthy.
