The Fillan Mattress is a rather basic, innerspring mattress with a medium-firm feel.

The Fillan Mattress can be purchased through the IKEA website or at any of their 12 stores Australia-wide. Delivery costs will depend on your location, but a typical delivery cost to a metropolitan area is $49.
This mattress has a plain appearance with a white and grey colour theme. It sits 26cm high which slightly lower than many other innerspring mattresses.
Comfort and support
The Fillan Mattress uses an outer cover made of 100% polyester that also includes ticking (cloth, 64% polyester, 36% cotton). The side ticking is also made of 64% cotton, 36% polyester.
The top comfort section of the mattress includes a layer of polyurethane foam 25 kg/cubic metre), a layer of latex, polyester wadding. The lining includes felt liner and non-woven polypropylene.
These comfort materials offer a level of comfort that could be described as adequate. This mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, its suitability will vary between individuals.

The Fillan Mattress uses a steel pocket spring system. This support structure feels fairly basic but should provide adequate spinal support for most people.
The Fillan Mattress responds nicely to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the ‘optimal’ zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.

The overall build quality of this mattress is fair. The mattress construction and materials are basic and the foam components feels unsophisticated.

Edge support is a little lacking, but most users should be able to use the entire mattress surface without fear of falling off the edge.
Partner disturbance is noticeable, but not significant. As always though, motion transfer will vary depending on the mattress size and the size of the occupants of the bed.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Fillan Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.

Final verdict
The Fillan Mattress is a serviceable mattress but is not competitive at this price point. Its levels of comfort and support are reasonable, but overall it lacks the quality and sophistication of similarly priced products.
