Deep Dream Super Firm Mattress Review
The Deep Dream Super Firm Mattress is available to purchase through Lifely. As the name suggests, it contains a special ‘charcoal infused’ foam that can help with cooling and hygiene.
This mattress forms part of Lifely’s (previously E-Living) Deep Dream mattress range, that includes the highly popular Deep Dream Premium, the Deep Dream Essential, and the Deep Dream Green Tea.
Purchase and delivery
As with other ‘mattress in a box’ products, you can simply order this mattress online (through the Lifely website) and it will arrive at your door in a compact box. Delivery is fast and Lifely do free shipping to most metro areas Australia-wide (to check delivery fees, see below in our ‘Delivery’ section).
The Deep Dream Super Firm Mattress was easy to remove from its packaging. As usual, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box, even though it is usually possible with one person.
Unpacking this mattress should only take 5-10 minutes, and as always, we gave it 24 hours to fully decompress before we conducted our assessment.
The Deep Dream Super Firm Mattress won’t win any prizes for its appearance, but nevertheless it has a simple and clean design. It uses a grey and white colour theme and its visible branding gives it a nice touch.
Comfort and support
The top cover of the mattress is made from organic cotton which feels soft and breathable. This cover sits over a collection of comfort layers that includes a support foam, and a high density charcoal infused foam layer.
According to product specifications, the charcoal infused foam helps to create a “fresh, cool and allergy-free sleep environment”. These health benefits of charcoal are also noted in other mattress sites.
This comfort layer offers some nice pressure relief (despite it being a firm feel), and it doesn’t feel ‘hard’ like some other firm (or extra firm) mattresses (e.g. Slumberland Stonehenge) that we have tested. Nevertheless, this mattress has a definitely firm feel, and it would generally suit back sleepers rather than side sleepers or stomach sleepers.

Our team rated this mattress as a firm feel and a 8.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest). Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.
These comfort layers sit over a 5 zone pocket spring system. We found this spring system to be strong and stable and should provide adequate back support for most people. This spring unit isolates motion well, so partner disturbance is not significant.
The Deep Dream Super Firm Mattress feels a little hard and doesn’t respond as well to normal sleep movements as other mattresses that we have tested. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) may require some effort.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
Although it lacks some of the refinement found in its competitors, it’s worth considering that this is around half the price of an average bed in a box in Australia. Edge support is reasonable and overall the mattress feels quite sturdy.
It is also worth noting that this mattress comes with a 100 night trial period, along with an impressive 20 year warranty. The Deep Dream Super Firm Mattress is also well certified as non-toxic by the world’s leading authorities in foam and fabric testing.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Deep Dream Super Firm Mattress to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).
A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
Furthermore, we do not recommend the Deep Dream Super Firm Mattress to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this will also void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.

The Deep Dream Super Firm Mattress is a great value, firm mattress. Although it lacks the polish of some of its more expensive competitors, it is a genuine option for those budget conscious bed shoppers who prefer a distinct firm feel.
