The Deep Dream Medium Firm Mattress forms part of Lifely’s (previously E-Living) Deep Dream mattress range, that also includes the entry level Deep Dream Essential and the flagship Deep Dream Green Tea.
Purchase and delivery
As with other mattress in a box products, you can order this mattress online (through the SHOP NOW) and it will arrive at your door in a compact box. The box itself is strong and robust, and its wheels should make it easy to transport.

It may require some strength to remove the Deep Dream Medium Firm Mattress from its box and packaging. As such, we recommend having two people available to unpack a mattress in a box.
Unpacking the mattress should only around 10 minutes, and we allowed it to decompress for 24 hours before testing.

The Deep Dream Medium Firm Mattress is an innerspring mattress that contains a number of components.
1. Organic Cotton Cover
The cover of this mattress is made from organic cotton that is certified as non-toxic by OEKO-TEX. It is designed to be highly breathable, have a subtle stretch, and a soft touch to keep you cool and comfortable.
2. Convoluted Foam
This layer of convoluted foam is made from soft, strong premium quality foam. It has an innovative convolution egg crate design to provide comfort and to reduce stress and pressure points in your back.
This foam layer also offers increased air flow and enhanced ventilation.
3. Cool Gel Memory Foam
A special Deep Dream blend, this cool gel memory foam layer is designed to keep your body temperature down by directing heat away. This foam is also designed to offer pressure relief.
4. Convoluted Foam
A second layer of convoluted foam provides extra cushioning and is a transitional layer for comfort and support.
5. Deep Dream Dynamic Foam
The Deep Dream Dynamic Foam acts as the supportive foam layer that helps to prevent sinking and sagging while providing spine and body support.
6. 5 Zone Pocket Springs
5 zones of hundreds of individually wrapped pocket springs help to cradle your body and provide ergonomic spinal alignment with back pressure relief support.
These pocket springs also help to minimise motion transfer. The reinforced perimeter coils provide the best in edge support to help you get in and out of bed easily, without sinking over time.
Comfort and support
The organic cotton cover feels soft, breathable, and should help to regulate sleep temperature in some way. The mix of various foams in the top comfort layer feel foamy and absorb body weight fairly well.
The mattress should suit all sleeping positions (side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers) but understandably, this suitability will vary between individuals.
Based on our testing, our team rated this mattress as a ‘medium’ feel and an 6 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest).

We tested the Deep Dream Medium Firm Mattress on the Chiropedic Bed Base which is a good quality bed base with rigid slats.
The 5 zone pocket spring system offers reliable spinal support and feels fairly stable. This spring system isolates motion fairly well – partner disturbance is present, but not significant.
This spring system does show its price in that there is a sinking sensation in certain positions. We would not recommend this mattress for heavy people (over 100kg) as it may not provide adequate support.
The Deep Dream Medium Firm Mattress responds well to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be too much trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Deep Dream Medium Firm Mattress to be used on a bed base with flat panel slats such as the Koala Paddington Bed Base.
A bed base with solid slats (with slats no longer than 8 cm apart) such as the Chiropedic Bed Base, would also be very suitable.
We would advise against using a bed base with flexible (posture) slats as this type of base may not provide adequate support. Ultimately, the use of an unsupportive mattress foundation may void the mattress warranty.
