The Crown Premiere Nuance Firm presents with a simple yet elegant style. It uses a white and grey colour theme and does not have a distinguishable pillow top (as in the medium and plush variants). Its finishings and brand labelling demonstrate its high level of quality.
Comfort and support
The top surface of this mattress is made from a micro-modal knit cover. This feels thick and durable, and should offer adequate ventilation. This cover sits over a wool blend quilt, a pillow top spacer, and a layer of graphite memory foam.
This sophisticated comfort layer also contains a flexible coating called Black Diamond, which helps with air flow and temperature regulation. In addition, this comfort layer contains a layer of ‘Pulse Latex’ that helps with pressure relief.
This comfort layer feels particularly dense, and does have a slight hardness to it. It should suit most back sleepers, but it may also be suitable for side sleepers and stomach sleepers. Understandably though, this suitability will vary between individuals.
We rated the Crown Premiere Nuance Firm as a ‘extra firm’ feel and an 8.5 / 10 on the firmness scale. The spring system used in the Crown Premiere Nuance Firm is an advanced Quadcoil Pocket Coil system. This system is exclusive to the premium end of Crown Posture Bedding mattresses, and feels particularly robust. It will accomodate people of all sizes, and offers excellent spinal support.
The Quadcoil Pocket Coil system also isolates motion well, so partner disturbance is minimal.
The Crown Premiere Nuance Firm responds nicely to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.
Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.
The finer details
In terms of build quality and craftsmanship, the Crown Premiere Nuance Firm is outstanding. Edge support is sound, thanks to enhanced perimeter reinforcement and foam encasement. The mattress also comes with strong side handles to assist in rotation and transport.
In terms of after sales service, this mattress is well backed with a 10 year warranty.
What bed base should I use?
As with most mattresses, we recommend the Crown Premiere Nuance Firm to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).
A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
