The BAHA Pocket Spring Mattress is one of the cheapest mattress in a box products available on the Australian market. It forms part of BAHA’s (mattress in a box) range, that also includes the BAHA Memory Foam Mattress.

As with other mattress in a box products, the BAHA Pocket Spring Mattress can be ordered online, and it will be delivered to your door in a compact box. Delivery is free and the mattress can be delivered Australia wide. The box itself was good quality and the mattress was easy to remove from its packaging.

The top layer of this mattress consists of a smooth fabric as well as a layer of comfort foam. This does offer some pressure relief but as you would expect for the price, it is far from luxurious. As a result, we feel this would be more suited to back sleepers rather than side sleepers. Our team rated it as a ‘medium – firm’ feel and a 7.5 / 10 on the firmness scale (with 10 being the firmest):

The comfort materials sit over a pocket spring system which is respectable in this price bracket. Although you can feel the springs move under you during normal sleep movements, it does offer reasonable back support. It wouldn’t be suitable for larger people but it should hold up for most of us. This pocket spring unit has a decent level of responsiveness, and it is easy enough to ‘move around’ in.

Edge support is reasonable and partner disturbance is surprisingly minimal – similarly priced budget mattresses like the Kmart Mattress and the Big W Mattress both have a hideous amount of motion disturbance.

Overall, the BAHA Pocket Spring Mattress has some notable deficiencies but it does have some impressive features in context of its price. Its level of spinal support and partner disturbance are better than average at this price point, so it certainly could be considered as a temporary mattress or for the guest room. And if you’re not fussy, it may just be OK as a more permanent mattress.
