Archies Thongs Review
Archies have reinvented the iconic Australian footwear with their Archies Thongs, also known as Archies Arch Support Thongs. They are a comfortable and ergonomic option that encourages healthy foot position and efficient movement during walking.
Developed by an Australian physiotherapist, Archies Thongs have a cleverly designed arch support. These thongs offer a comfortable and practical option for those who want to combine the casual aspect of thongs, with special orthotic support to keep your feet well supported during leisure activities. The arch support comes with an ‘high arch’ to support and mould to your feet.
Archies Thongs are light, but still very well made with a memory foam construction. As mentioned, they have a unique arch support, along with a strong toe strap which reduces the amount of work required by soft tissue structures (e.g. tendons) in the foot. They also have a comfortable ‘heel cup’ and a special toe grip called a ‘toe star’.
What’s more, they are built specifically in one-piece to prevent ‘blowouts’. So no more strap detachments that you may have had with traditional thongs. The underside grip is also very good, so you won’t find yourself slipping on unstable surfaces.
Archies Thongs are perfect for anyone, but particularly those who suffer from foot disorders such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy, heel pain, or toe pain. They come in a fantastic range of colours, and choosing the right size is simple with their easy to follow size conversion chart.
We would highly recommend Archies Thongs to anyone looking for a stylish, comfortable, and ergonomic footwear option.

Your toes don’t have to grip to keep your thongs on, allowing you to walk all day without overusing muscles and tendons in the feet. Archies Thongs look just like ‘normal’ thongs, yet provide the same amount of support of a typical orthotic, providing comfort beyond what is thought possible in a regular thong. This is why Archies Thongs are the choice for many of Australia’s elite athletes and recommended by thousands of Australia’s leading Physio’s and Podiatrists.
Archies Thongs – Orthotic Support
With up to 2.2cm of orthotic support, Archies Thongs incorporate the same amount of support that you would find from an ‘off the shelf’ orthotic, however with the patented design, they look just like normal thongs. The support found within Archies Footwear may help to support the foot in a more biomechanically appropriate position thereby easing the stresses and strains that would otherwise be transferred to the musculoskeletal system. As such, the thongs have been extremely popular with many of Australia’s Elite Athletes and leading Health and Fitness Experts. At Archies Footwear, we know that it’s impossible to adequately cater for all feet with one arch profile, as a result, Archies Arch Support Thongs come in a Standard Arch Support model and a High Arch Support model. Having the two arch profiles allows us better cater for your arch type and support needs.
The thongs are made out of an unbelievably comfortable, high quality foam material and really have a “wow” factor for anyone that tries them on. Once you get used to them, you will never want to take them off your feet and most people say that they simply cannot wear ‘normal thongs’ after wearing Archies Thongs!
Features and benefits of Archies Thongs
Podiatrists in particular are finding that Archies Thongs are perfect for their patients when they are not wearing their orthotics, giving their patients a break from their shoes and some much-needed fresh air while still giving them substantial support. Podiatrist are also finding that Archies Thongs are very useful for people suffering from foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis, the soft arch support helps provide a more optimal environment for healing to occur when compared to walking bare-feet on hard surfaces or typical flat thongs. As such, many people both with and without foot conditions, especially those with hard floor-board and tiles simply wear the thongs in and around the house when they are not wearing their shoes.
One of the features of the thongs that Health Professionals like the most about Archies Thongs is the tighter strap and the extremely light weight design which allows more optimal foot function and enables the user to walk with a more natural gait pattern than what they would experience when wearing other thongs. The tighter strap, super soft foam and the arch support found within Archies Thongs often enables the user to walk for long distances in the thongs without pain, making them the perfect thongs for travelling where large amounts of walking will be done. Due to a combination of these design features, we receive an enormous amount of feedback from customers who have previously never been able to wear thongs or who used to get pain from wearing thongs but are able to wear Archies Thongs often over impressive distances without any issues.
Archies Thongs – Size Guide
Archies Thongs are unisex Thongs, we do not have a separate size system for men and women. Archies Thongs sizing runs very true to your normal US running shoe size (for both men and women), so we suggest to select that for your size.
If you are often different sizes in different brands, or if you have any doubts as to which size to choose and or you simply want to confirm your size selection, then we suggest to measure your foot length using the instructions below and check the recommended corresponding size via the Archies Thongs size conversion chart.

Women’s Size Conversion Chart
Using your normal ladies running shoe size, simply use the size conversion chart to help you choose your Archies Thongs unisex size. If you do not own a pair of running shoes, just select your most common ladies shoe size.
The sizes that are marked on the bottom of the thong are unisex sizes. E.g – If you order a Unisex 7 (Size US Men’s 7 / US Women’s 8), the thong you will receive will be marked with the unisex sizes (US 7 UK 6 EURO 40), however, it will be the exact equivalent of the women’s size (US 8 UK 5.5 EURO 39).
This does not change anything with regards to ordering. You can see the equivalent women’s sizes in the size conversion chart and they are already converted for you at the checkout.

Archies Thongs – Fitting
In terms of width, Archies Thongs are designed to be a reasonably narrow fitting thong. The outside edge of the foot hangs over the edge to some extent in most people, so please do not be concerned if this is the case for you, as this is the normal fit for Archies Thongs (as per the below image). It is important to note, that while the foot overhangs to some extent in most people, it is quite rare that we cannot fit Archies Thongs to someone’s feet, no matter how wide or narrow they are. Even in the case that you have a bunion that overhangs, this is ok, the most important thing is that the thong is comfortable and the orthotic sits in the correct position on the foot.
Please see the image below of completely acceptable overhang.
In terms of length, the thongs were designed with a reasonably ‘snug / tight’ fit in mind. If you go too big in terms of length, the orthotic does not sit in the correct position on the foot. It is important to note, that it is not a concern if some of the back edge of the heel hangs over the edge of the thong (as per the below image).
Of course, if your heel is completely over the edge of the heel cup and squashing down on the rim of the thong, then that is different, however, some heel overhang is ok. Again, the most important thing is that the thong is comfortable and the orthotic sits in the correct position on the foot.

Archies Thongs have a tighter strap
Archies Thongs have been designed with a tighter strap than normal thongs. The good news is, while a tight strap is essential for normal foot function, it is very, very easy to instantly fix this problem by stretching the strap and toe pole to reach your desired level of tightness!
However, before you do consider doing that, I strongly suggest that you read the below information.
If you are at all interested, here is some background information on why we have a tighter strap:
Please click here for a quick video demonstration of why a tighter thong strap is important for normal foot function.
Archies Thongs have been designed with a tighter strap than normal thongs, this is because in thongs with a loose strap, the toes claw down in an attempt to keep the thongs on the feet.
Normally when you walk your toes are supposed to point/bend upwards. When the toes point/bend upwards, this activates the arch of the foot which helps provide protection and support to the vital structures of the feet.
When the toes claw down such as when trying to keep the thongs on the feet, the arch does not activate correctly which means that you do not get the protective support from the arch of the foot like you are supposed to. This can leave the foot tired and achy, vulnerable to stress and potential injury.
The tighter strap found in Archies Thongs may help to reduce toe clawing which may enable you to walk more naturally. It is important to know, that if the strap feels a little too tight at first, do not worry, the strap is very elastic, within a few days of wear, the strap will gradually stretch and mould to the shape of your feet.
However, if the strap continues to feel too tight, it is very easy to stretch the strap and the toe pole to decrease tightness.
How to stretch the strap on Archies:
Please click here for a quick instructional video on how to stretch your strap of your thongs.
1. Before stretching the strap, you should always inspect the underside of the strap for a joining line. Occasionally, a joining line will be present and is indicated by a faint line through the underside of the strap. While the strap is very strong, if you stretch the strap directly on a joining line, it can break easily, so never stretch the strap directly on a joining line!
– You should also never stretch the strap directly where it joins onto the outside and inside of the base as this will cause it to tear away from the base.
a) NEVER stretch at the strap insertions to the base!
b) NEVER stretch directly on a joining line!
2. To stretch the strap, simply hold the strap between your fingers and in small little increments stretch each section of the strap where it feels too tight. You can do the same for the toe pole if this feels too tight.
3. Continue to do this, trying the thong on and off, stretching the strap and toe pole until it has reached your desired level of tightness.
4. It is important to note, that while the straps are very elastic, once stretched, the strap will not return to its original tightness, so please be careful not to overdo the stretching!
