The Active Sleep Venetian Plush forms the softest version in the Active Sleep Venetian range. It is a well priced mattress that offers a nice level of comfort.

This mattress can be ordered online through the Forty Winks website. It can also be purchased through any of Forty Winks’ stores across Australia.

Aesthetically, the Active Sleep Venetian Plush presents with a modern, ‘space age’ style. It sits 30cm high, and uses grey and white colour theme. Its brand name label at its base gives it a nice touch.

Comfort and support

The top comfort layer of this mattress is made up of a breathable fabric and a layer of gel-infused visco memory foam. These comfort materials produce a soft, foamy feel and offer plenty of pressure relief. 

The mattress should suit most side sleepers, but it may also suit some back sleepers and stomach sleepers. Understandably though, this suitability will vary between individuals. 

We rated the Active Sleep Venetian Plush as a ‘medium’ feel and an 5 / 10 on the firmness scale. Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. Furthermore, our firmness ratings are assigned based on Bedbuyer’s testing process and these may differ from firmness ratings given by individual companies.

The support structure used in the Active Sleep Venetian Plush is a 3-zone nested pocketed spring system. Although it isn’t as robust as other spring units we have tested, it still offers good spinal support and should also accommodate people of most sizes.

Due to the thick comfort layer, the Active Sleep Venetian Plush doesn’t respond particularly well to normal sleep movements. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) may be easier on other mattresses.

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

In terms of build quality and craftsmanship, the Active Sleep Venetian Plush is respectable. Edge support is a little soft though, and the lack of side handles is disappointing.

Partner disturbance isn’t significant, but this will depend on the size of the occupants of the bed.

It’s worth noting here that this mattress has a 10 year warranty.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Active Sleep Venetian Plush to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Chiropedic Bed Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).

A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.

Furthermore, we do not recommend the Active Sleep Venetian Plush to be used with an adjustable (electric) bed base as this will also void the warranty. Here is our full list of mattresses that are compatible with an adjustable bed base.

It’s worth noting here that mattress firmness, performance, and durability will vary with different bed bases.

Final verdict

The Active Sleep Venetian Plush is a nice, comfortable mattress that is reasonably priced. It uses a reliable spring system and comes with a 10 year warranty.
