The Crown PostureAdvance Firm presents with a simple, classic style. It uses a white and black colour theme and has a distinguishable comfort layer (pillow top). Its finishings and brand labelling demonstrate a high level of quality.

Comfort and support

The top surface of this mattress is made of a ‘SensICE™ fabric’ that is designed for cooling. This cover feels thick and durable, and feels cool to touch.

This cover sits over a wool blend quilt layer, a layer of graphite memory foam, and a nano micro pocket spring. This is followed by a high density foam layer and a 3D aerated pillow top spacer.

This comfort layer sounds fancy but it only offers a modest level of pressure relief in this firm variant. To this point, there is a slight hardness to it and is not overly comfortable.

This firm version should suit most back sleepers, but it may also be suitable for side sleepers and stomach sleepers. Understandably though, this suitability will vary between individuals.

We rated the Crown PostureAdvance Firm as a ‘extra firm’ feel and an 8.5 / 10 on the firmness scale. Please note that our firmness ratings are just a guide and they do not necessarily relate to comfort. The spring system used in the Crown PostureAdvance Firm is an Australian made Titanium 7-Zone Pocketed Coil Spring System called PosturePractic™ Advance. This spring unit feels particularly sturdy, and overall back support is excellent.

The PosturePractic™ Advance system also isolates motion well, so partner disturbance is minimal.

The Crown PostureAdvance Firm responds nicely to normal sleep movements and we rated its level of responsiveness in the optimal zone. In basic terms, this means that changing sleep positions (and intimate activities) shouldn’t be any trouble.

Please note that our responsiveness scales are just a guide and preferred responsiveness levels will vary between individuals. It’s worth noting also that innerspring mattresses are generally more responsive than foam mattresses.

The finer details

In terms of build quality and craftsmanship, the Crown PostureAdvance Firm is excellent. Edge support is sound, thanks to a high density foam box wall and a strengthened perimeter edge. The mattress also comes with strong side handles to assist in rotation and transport.

In terms of after sales service, this mattress is well backed with a 10 year warranty.

What bed base should I use?

As with most mattresses, we recommend the Crown PostureAdvance Firm to be used with a solid bed frame (such as the Sleep Republic Pro Base), or a solid ensemble base (with the slats no longer than 8 cm apart).

A bed frame (with flexible slats) may still be adequate, but again, we strongly recommend that the distance between each slat is less than 8 cm. Use of an unsupportive mattress foundation will usually void the mattress warranty.
